This was issued last week in Region 4 with a BIG retail push - Aladdin is defiantly no longer a platinum, at least internationally. I'm suspecting it's now open slather - hence it making frequent appearances on TV and the possibility of a re-issue of Blu-Ray defiantly being imminent. Would be a dick move for those who just bought the DVD re-issue though.

BIG retail push? Not here... Disney DVDs never get the attention they deserve!

How would that be a "dick move"? I'm not sure at all on that one.

Well, it would be about a year after that Musical Masterpiece Edition that it seems they would release this bluray. That doesn't seem fair to get people to buy this DVD release then later release the bluray like this. Oh well, now all you Europeans know to hold off a bit before you buy this new edition.

It seems to me that Aladdin might be switching places with Alice in release formats. Aladdin could be being released earlier than would be expected in an attempt to push bluray more, not necessarily because it performed so badly. I really don't think that Aladdin performed badly because it's not a popular film, I would blame publicity efforts when it was released. Now, it could end up being the first DAC non Platinum/Diamond bluray. This would be a very smart move in my opinion because it is a popular film with very popular characters and music. It'd be easy to sell in the new format.

So, lately the Disney owned stations have been showing Aladdin.... A LOT! It aired along a bunch of other DACs on Disney Channel for some kind of special event thing, and since then, it's been shown at least 4 more times. In HD too. Could this be a sign that it's bound for another release soon?
I don't think we can take it as a sign of a new release. Rather, I think that Disney is trying to rebuild an audience for it so that when it is released again, it will sell well. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Aladdin has declined in popularity. I know a lot of people speculate that its due to fear of Arabic countries in a post 9/11 America, but I don't buy that because yesterday when I was in Epcot, the line to meet Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie was really long. Maybe its just because Jasmine is a princess. I don't know.

I, too, was wondering why Aladdin was coming on television a lot. It's always on Toon Disney, and last week I watched it six times (twice in full, and bits & pieces four other times). Twice on ABC Family, twice on Disney Channel, and twice again on Disney Channel west.

Actually, an Aladdin blu-ray and a hercules SE(if it's not a blu-ray) would make sense to kinda coincide with the DVD/Blu-ray release of PATF. All three have the same directors in Musker and Clemense.

It was towards the front of JB Hi-Fi with a couple of posters :p - That's the closest we are going to get these days. I remember when the entirety of Borders Hornsby was COVERED in promo material for Lion King on VHS(Suckers!)/DVD...

Oh yeah we got that too. I think it was about the same amount of promotion as any of the other disney dvd releases though. The Perth Boarders once had a giant interactive WALL-E model! But other than that, I rarely see boarders advertising anything.

see that's what i was thinking. maybe that's what is with all the aladdin on tv stuff. maybe they are trying to recapture the audience for a november/december release to coincide with patf. i think it makes sense. and also it is the FIRST movie they show in the commercial.. maybe another hint ehh? then it is follow by batb.. which would come out in feb. :D

He said "dick move", not movie. The expression "dick move" means to be rude or act like a jerk.
