Warner Announces "Red2Blu"

I know this topic won't last long on this board, but Warner's announced a program which, for a mere fee of $5 per movie, allows HD-DVD adopters to receive the blu-ray versions of movies they own, while all they have to do is find their movies on the site(www.red2blu.com), pay the fee, plus taxes shipping, and send in the cover art sleeve and they will receive the blu-ray at what amounts to a much cheaper price than what they'd pay if they had sold their HD-DVD and then bought the blu disc, themselves.

I find this a good, economical decision. I'm preparing to send in my art-sleeve for Superman Returns right now. Kudos to Warner!

As for Harry Potter, I hold out for the HD-DVD exclusive bonuses which should come around in the next year or so. At least I can keep the Gift Set if that's correct.

I am moving it to the home video forum, however, as I think that's a better fit.

As for me, I never invested in HD-DVD so I can't take advantage but I think it's cool that Warner is doing this. If I only I could trade in my DVDs for Blu-ray at just $5 a pop.

Ah. That's where I intended to put it, but didn't.

And I though it wouldn't last as 1) no one here seems to have HD DVD, and not many are indulging in blu-ray. Plus, all my topics seem to last only a week.

Well, given how quickly any thread can suddenly turn into a hostile "Blu-Ray versus DVD" argument even if Blu-Ray is not even the primary topic of discussion in a thread...

I wouldn't mind that either, so long as all the DVD special features are retained and not dropped.

I'd actually love to be able to exchange some of my dvds, but this is for HD DVD people, like myself, and anyone who likes good economics.

It's interesting that they only ask for the sleeve. That must be because of the "proof of puchase" on the back, so they know you actually bought it.

I think this is a pretty good ideal. From what I understand you only send in the cover art, so you can also keep the HD DVD. The limit is 25 titles per household, which is pretty good too.

I just sent in for Superman Returns. I'd do the same thing with my Harry Potter set, but the HD DVDs have IME pip tracks that aren't on the blu-ray, and I'm only losing the progressive scan and many foreign-language tracks. Sure, the component connection was problematic at first, but it seems fixed.

If Paramount does this, Transformers would go in so I can keep Live.

I thought all HD DVDs were Region Free? That was one of the things I liked about the format.

I wonder if more studios will do this, but I kind of doubt it. Warner was really the only one that supported both formats well.

I got my copy a couple weeks ago, and it works perfectly. Very slightly different from the HD DVD.

DVDs are still sold. This is just for people that bought HD DVD versions of movies. Since HD DVD isn't made anymore they are offering Blu-ray replacements.
