Walt Disney Treasures Wave X Discussion
Since the Announcement of Wave IX was a disappointment to lots, I decided to start this discussion to talk about what you want to see of Wave X, if there is one. If you know me, you know I'd like to see "Song of the South" get a tin. I'd also like to see a Ludwig Von Drake set, and a Disney World tin. What do you want to see?
"No day but today."

I recommend "we" don't ask specifically for more "double-dipping" - the shorts with Minnie and Daisy are already included in the Mickey, Donald and other WDT sets.
We basically need one more set to complete the classic theatrical animated shorts. I keep wondering what Disney was thinking and Leonard Maltin was talking about a few years back when it was commented that Susie and Casey were not included in the Rarities set.
Those two, the three or so C&D shorts, a handful of Alice Comedies and other "prehistoric" shorts if there are any more available/in existence and a few of the more modern shorts - that would do it.
A set of educational/instructional/public service shorts (including some more WWII material).
TV shows, particularly more of what has been started but not yet completed, such as Elfego Baca, Swamp Fox, Spin & Marty, Hardy Boys.

My dream 10th wave would consist of:
Disney Rarities Vol. 2
The Complete People and Places (3-disc set)
Spin & Marty Vol. 2
If a 4th set was going to be released, I would hope for another Disneyland set as merlinjones mentioned.
I agree that I don't want to double dip by having them release a Chip & Dale set or any of the others mentioned that mostly recycle shorts already released on the Treasures. I would like the remaining shorts to end up on Rarities 2.

I think something like this could have happened:Lars Vermundsberget wrote:I keep wondering what Disney was thinking and Leonard Maltin was talking about a few years back when it was commented that Susie and Casey were not included in the Rarities set.
Leonard Maltin must have made up a list of shorts that in his opinion should be on the Rarities set. Including "Susie" and "Casey".
Disney told him it was too much and that he had to let go of a few shorts.
I think he decided on "Susie" and "Casey" because these two shorts already appear on two dvd-sets, likely to be owned by Disney collector's in addition to the Treasures line: "Melody Time" and "The Love Bug"

Since Disney suddenly shifted gears and made two sets that were more than two discs each, the door's open for future Treasures sets to do the same, so I can imagine a "People & Places" Treasures that's multi-disc as well to get them all out at once.
I'd love a "Chip 'n' Dale" Treasure, but that would be a double-dip of mega proportions and likely to annoy Treasures collectors aplenty. A good compromise would be for Disney to have another budget DVD line devoted solely to Chip 'n' Dale. Their 23 shorts amount to about 2.5 hours, so three 50-minute compilation discs would be feasible - they could even include the 3 Mickey Mouse Works cartoons as well. The caveat of that is a lack of bonus features that would have possibly appeared on a Treasures release ("Disneyland: The Adventures of Chip 'n' Dale", "Working for Peanus" commentary recycled from Chrono Donald V4, creation-of-Chip-n-Dale-or-other-subject featurettes, art/poster/comics/merchandise galleries), and the likelihood of inferior transfers.
Most of my guesstimations for Wave X have already been suggested, though I think Wave X would consist of...
"People & Places" (another multi-disc set simply to get them all out at once.)
"Rarities, Vol. 2" ("Susie", "Casey", the three Chip 'n' Dale shorts, the surviving Laugh-O-Grams, additional surviving "Alice", maybe they could even offer proper anamorphic versions of the CinemaScope cartoons)
Another "Disneyland" Set (Ludwig seems to be the popular safe bet, but I remember forum talk that they should do another serial, like "Prince and the Pauper")
Another "Mickey Mouse Club" Serial (Spin & Marty seems the safe bet. They probably could get the remaining two out of the way and make it a 4-disc set.)
The day Disney releases Song of the South on some form of home video (Treasures, DMC, D23, general retail) in the US is the day I'll eat a straw hat.

How about a Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar Treasure? How about a Huey, Louie and Dewey Treasure? How about a Three Little Pigs and Other Pigs Treasure?
Seriously, there is some double-dipping in the Treasures, but not much - I'd prefer it to remain that way. Just one more set could wrap up the classic theatrical animated shorts nicely. That would be neat, wouldn't it?
As for what happened with the Rarities set, I seem to remember that Maltin said something to the effect that they somehow had other plans for Susie and Casey. I still wonder what that would be and WHY. A certain selection of shorts seemed like an obvious choice for the Rarities set, including all of the Walt-era animated "Specials". So "everybody" kept asking why exactly Susie and Casey were left out.
For all I know it could be correct that they had to go because of space restrictions, but if it were so, a couple of the Alice titles or some of the bonus material would be a more logical choice in my opinion. I don't know...

Not to sound rude but its WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too early to be starting a thread for wave X when wave IX hasnt even been released yet.
Just because you may not be particulary excited about the Zorro release there are many who are. If Zorro isnt your cup of tea how bout just taking a breather for a few more months and let the rest of us enjoy the anticipation of THIS wave before speculating on what is coming up next.

Discussion for Wave IX began November 14, 2008, a mere 3 days after Wave VIII was released. I'm sure the 18-month gap between now and Wave X isn't that early, so I don't see why we can't have a Wave X discussion now, especially since we already know what the Wave IX titles are, and that those interested in discussing it have the Wave IX thread.
Let's start a Wave XI discussion too. What can we not expect in 2010 that might be possible for 2011?

Susie and Casey were a logical choice, because they were already available on dvd's that were "in print" at the time. Most of the other material wasn't.Lars Vermundsberget wrote: So "everybody" kept asking why exactly Susie and Casey were left out.

Still I think "Chicken Little" might have been left out as it was already on the "Front Lines" treasure.

Could be. Still too bad, though - availability elsewhere never was and shouldn't be reason not to include a particular classic short in the WDT set where it "rightfully" belongs. Good point about Chicken Little. Besides, the running time of the Rarities set seems to be 5:26, the same as Goofy. Apparently the two Freeway shorts could not be included there because it would be too much, so you could very well be right.
At this point, though, one more set could fix the whole problem. No surprise, that's what I'm hoping for.

Seems to be since none of us really got what we wanted we can just refer to the speculation on Wave 9. But for the record any remaining animated shorts including some of the more interesting educational ones and People and Places. Lets hope Santa is better to us than last year.

That's the Treasure I wish for the most.
I think the first disc could be filled with the remaining theatrical shorts from Walt's time:
"Susie", "Casey", the 3 Chip & Dale's, the 2 missing Goofy's, the original Winnie the Pooh etc. + some Alices / Laugh o grams.
The second disc could either be devoted to educational shorts (like the "I'm no fool.."s)
Or theatrical animated shorts from Walt's time to present. Like "Small one" for example.
Me too I would like proper anamorphic presentations of the cinemascope cartoons on the original Rarities set.
But I would also like to see turn up one day:
The rest of Elfego Baca and Swamp Fox
People & Places
More Spin & Marty / Hardy Boys
More Disneyland tv-shows are always welcome too.
