Nope, I'm going. The nearest theater playing a midnight showing is one that is quite far. So we plan to get there at 11 and if they are sold out, we're leaving. I guess I'm not hard-core for not traveling there earlier in the day to buy tickets for that night.ColorsOfTheWind wrote:So, any crazy Disney fans like me going to a midnight showing of Up tomorrow night? Or am I the only one?

So I saw the film last night and it was truly amazing. You know how when something is sooo hyped that it just doesn't seem like it can ever live up to your expectations? Well I can 100% say that Up blew me away.KubrickFan wrote:Seems like the trailer didn't really give too much of the story away. According to the reviews it's a far better story than that simple premise.DisneyJedi wrote: Simple. Carl Frederickson is going on a journey to South America, and meets many people along the way.
The relationship between Carl and Russell was very genuine and gradually built throughout the film. They obviously go on a physical journey but there is a very strong emotional one paralleling the trip.
I read "formulaic" and I have to say that it was new territory in my opinion. I really was moved to tears and thought the film explored a lot of
real emotions (I am being intentionally vague cause I feel like you should all see it for yourselves

For any plot questions, you should check out the official site - gives a good synopsis and has tons of video clips. There is a place to enter you zip for tickets as well...judging from this thread and the reviews out there, this is probably going to sell out pretty quickly!
Lastly, I would suggest seeing it in 3D. as others mentioned, it's very well done - nothing comes flying out at your face or anything like that. As Kyle said - "they treated it like a window, so it shouldn't feel gimmicky. "
Well seems like a lot of people are planning on seeing it late tonight - look forward to hearing what you thought of it!
Has anyone else seen the promotion at Target about buying any Pixar movie and getting a free ticket to see Up? Well I just came back from buying The Incredibles and I got nothing, the ad said that it is suppose to come inside of the DVD but there was nothing. Anyone know what I should do?
Here is the link for the ad, it's page 14-15: http://weeklyad.target.com/target/defau ... entryflash

Ah, I must be lucky where I live then - the movie theater with a midnight showing is only 5 or so minutes away. I didn't think it would be too crazy at the midnight showing, so my friend and I just bought tickets after school and are showing up at around 11 to see it.magicalwands wrote: Nope, I'm going. 3 hours and 40 minutes!

What the crap... you know that free ticket you get with A Bugs Life blu ray?
I went to enter the code, and the thing they gave me to print out says "Here is your child movie certificate to see UP" Child??? Why? I don't think they asked me how old I was when I entered my info. and it doesn't say child on the part you cut out at all. could this be just a flub and wont matter when I go to use it? or am I really stuck with a child's ticket? I look younger than I am, but there's no way I can pass as a child.
Im just wondering now if that was the catch all along, or if I entered something wrong. can anyone confirm weather or not adult was even an option? will it not even matter?

Well said, katemonster! It was a VERY emotionally stunning and powerful film, which isn't evident in the trailers. I had seen the display on the animation tour at WDW which had hinted to me some of the plot points so I thought parts of it might be emotional, but it was even more so than I had expected from that.katemonster wrote:

Yes, parts of it made me cry, and there was also some real charm and lighter, humorous moments as well. This film worked on many levels and layers and once again Pixar has created characters that you can really feel for and care about. Their streak of artistic brilliance continues, in a film I'd definitely rank in the upper reaches of their cannon, a cannon in which their are no "bad" films!
I saw it in 3-D at the Prytania Theatre in uptown New Orleans, which just happens to be the sole surviving independantly owned single-screen neighborhood theatre in the state. Yet they are equiped for 3-D already and very few of our multiplexes in the area are! It was a midnight show consisting of mostly young adults and college-aged people. I don't think there were any kids there, probably due to the time. Interestingly, many people stayed through the end of the credits like I always do, and I overheard nothing but positive comments from other viewers on the way out.
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney

why are you making a big deal? If anything they'll give you the discount off your ticket.Kyle wrote:What the crap... you know that free ticket you get with A Bugs Life blu ray?

Actually, I know a non-child who tried to use the free children's ticket to see <i>Hannah Montana: The Movie</i> and even though children and adult prices were the exact same they wouldn't accept it. It'd be really lame if that's the case on the <i>Up</i> ticket too. It's lame enough that you have to enter the code and print something out.CampbellzSoup wrote:why are you making a big deal? Kyle, I'd be disappointed too if I thought I was getting an adult ticket only to find out it's a ticket I couldn't use. One thought, though, is that it could be fun to give the free ticket to a child/parent of a child you know or even who you see in line at the movie theater. It would make their day, the ticket wouldn't go to waste and you'd feel good about doing something nice for someone. But you might first want to see if the theater will let you use the ticket anyway.

I just got back from seeing "Up." I'll keep my review short and sweet because I wouldn't want to give anything away. Overall I think it was cute, clever and very original. I would need another viewing to give it a ranking among the other Pixar films, but my guess is it would fall somewhere near the middle.

I also just came back from seeing Up. It was very satisfying, very funny, very emotional, very well-done. I had an absolutely great movie-watching experience! It's hard for me to rank anything, but I think that Wall-e is still my #1 favorite Pixar film. Up made me laugh, it made me cry, it kept me on the edge of my seat- it was terrific!
And I will not shy away from spoilers, so if you don't want any spoilers, do not read the rest of my post!
SPOILER ALERT! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
During most of the film, I thought that this would either tie or surpass Wall-e as my favorite Pixar film, since it has a lot of heart and humor and wonderfulness. I don't remember the first part of the film that made me think otherwise, but one part was when the dogs flew the airplanes. Yes, I know that this is a movie about a house that flies with balloons attached to it, but still- I thought that that was a little far-fetched.
I had read reviews of the film, so I knew to bring Kleenex, and I needed them not only in the beginning, but during certain parts throughout the film. Carl and Ellie's relationship was so sweet- it really made me feel for Carl. I also felt for Dug when his fellow dogs didn't like him, but even more when Carl told him that he was a bad dog. I love how Carl became Dug's master- that was sweet. I never mind spoilers about Disney animated films, but something that struck me was that due to the trailer, we knew who the villain would be. At first, it didn't seem that Charles Muntz would be the villain, since he was so nice to Carl at first. Did anyone else wish that they didn't know who the villain was? I mean, because he didn't start out a villain (or at least he wasn't mean towards Carl and Russell at first, although he always was a villain against Kevin and her family).
End of spoilers, end of post.

Just came back from seeing Up, and I must say that I absolutely loved it. I've never been a big fan really of Pixar films, except for the Incredibles and Wall-E which are my favorites, but Up very much surprised me and I think ranks as one of my favorites with those. I was very surprised at how sweet and touching the beginning with the life of Carl and Ellie especially was, and just overall enjoyed the heart, humor, and action of the film.

blackcauldron85, I too wish we didn't know about it in the trailer! I kept anticipating his turn into evil moment.
I would say I need too see this again before I give it a true review. It didn't grab me the first time like WALL-E did, but this was how I felt with Ratatouille. At first I didn't like it, but the second viewing on DVD changed my opinion about it. So, I will see try to see it again as soon as possible! But I have to admit, this is by far the funniest Pixar film!

And technically this isn't allowed because you need to enter your name and zip code, which print out on the ticket. There's something about having to show photo ID to confirm identity and I'm sure there's a clause about not transferring. But still there is a chance that you could pull it off instead of letting a ticket go to waste.Daisy Duck wrote:One thought, though, is that it could be fun to give the free ticket to a child/parent of a child you know or even who you see in line at the movie theater. The more I think about it, the more Hollywood Movie Money seems to be a pain. Even as it's being accepted in more theaters, having to decide on a location and date, printing it out... They're only good for like 3 days after you print it out too. It's almost just as well to buy a ticket, especially if you've got an AMC with a $5 weekday price.
Just wondering, did anybody who's seen the movie NOT see the short "Partly Cloudy?" A few people on the IMDB boards said that their theaters didn't play the short. I'm planning to see the movie Sunday, and I was just wondering if a lot of theaters are not playing it for whatever reason. I really hope mine shows it.
