Something about him reminds me of Gaston, I can't quite put my finger on it but there's just an element to him.

The overly pompus attitude, and the I'm too good for myself vibe? That's what I get. I'm sure that bring a frog will give the prince a slice of humble pie...

In comparison to the other Princes he's quite tanned, almost Latino like. He's not white so why are people complaining?
...how is he white? Are you serious?
Just in case, I was talking about those claims that said Naveen was white and the whole controversy about the Prince not "being black". I just found it odd that people are complaining about it when the Prince is different from the others.

I'm seriously LOL'ing at the arguments and fuss over the animation and Naveen being white or not.

Seriously, can't you just enjoy a movie without getting so trivial over pointless stuff? The animation is fine and good. No need to complain and over analyze on that. Who cares what color the prince is. Might as well make him blue so everyone can shut-up (actually people will complain on that too).

I have to say I'm taking a real liking to Prince Naveen. Seems like guy full of great personality. I also like Falicier the witch doctor. He got a mysterious evil and flamboyant personality that I'm liking a lot.

I never thought he was. I was comparing this film with Rogers' and Hamerstein's Cinderella. Naveen is more latino than anything.

Yes! Absolutely! Especially the way he looks in that picture of him which was posted.

I just watched the new trailer and I must say I'm excited now. Tiana is simply gorgeous and Dr. Facilier reminds me of a mix between Jafar and the James Bond film: Live & Let Die's Baron Samedi. I love it! :D Although.... I'm a tad worried about putting in some of/so many the gags in it will hurt the marketing or help it. I'd also like to hear some of the music now... Randy's stuff can be great but I want it to be a tad different this time around to fit. Hell, I'd like to have heard Alan's demos too.. but much like American Dog we'll have to enjoy what we get and only wonder what was originally invisioned.

Naveen looks like an americanised (and thus buffed up) version of Aladdin. Especially the scenes of him dancing.

I don't exactly an Aladdin vibe. It's really just the thick eyebrows.

So, to kind of bring up my question again since it was left unanswered, does anyone have any information on the "special openings" that are taking place in New York and LA? I haven't been able to find anything on them really, so I'm hoping someone here will know something. :)

No he wasn't. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of hunky and good-looking young Arabians like Aladdin seducing women in the Middle East.

I know--I was referring to how Americanized Aladdin already is.

And sorry to ColorsOfTheWind for probably getting your hopes up for information.

all we know is that it opens in NY and LA a week before the rest of the country.

If you want more details, try finding some info about the releases of The Lion King, Pocahontas and the other 90s disney flicks that received the same treatment.

No. I know what you meant. it's just that I never understand why people feel he's Americanised. Even if he is, why shouldn't Arabian people look like that? He could easily pass for an Arabian, imo. Same for Jasmine. What's not Arbian about her, with that long hair, slender curvaceous body and tanned skin?

Yeah, I've seen Arabian men who are handsome and very American.

Even if Aladdin was drawn to look like Tom Cruise I think he has some features that make him look Arabian enough (like the nose and the thick eyebrows).

I never said anything about Jasmine. Or Jafar. They are much more obviously Arabian than Aladdin is. I think it has to do with the eyes. Some might even say that it's convenient that the villain and the sex object are more foreign in appearance than the main character. But I've never been one to look at Aladdin that way.

Apologies to everyone else for getting off-topic.
