Bye Bye platinums
I read the press release and it launched the diamond collection, so no more platinums. I hope diamond means improved and and better. So maybe the lion kings 2011 release will rock. Heck i'd just settle for the laserdisc bonus features, trailers, and the otv.
Walt Disney always belived in quality, bring the quality back.

So I'm assuming Fantasia will also be a Diamond Edition?
Does anyone else find it funny how we're getting a Diamond Collection, now? Remember a couple of years ago on this board we wondered what series Disney will come out with once the Platinums are done? Most of us said that the only higher up you could go in terms of prestige would be diamond, and now look. Disney really does read this board.
I wonder if Disney will reveal all the titles that are to be in this collection, similarly to how they gave us all of the Platinums right off the bat. Will they add more titles? Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland both deserve to be included (and the latter is looking more and more likely if we go by the European leaks). Will Aladdin still be booted off? Will more modern films like Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Hercules make it in? Only time will tell, I guess.

Well at least this may drop the nagging about Aladdin being dropped from the Platinum line. Now we'll just all complain about how it was never included in the Diamond line, then in a few years they'll just add it after they come out with a comparable release in a year or two just like how they did with Sleeping Beauty in 03, lol.
I'm VERY excited that we're getting this new line. It'll give me something to look forward to while giving Disney the opportunity to make up for their mistakes with the Platinum's.

You're new, but I like you already.

I love Siren!
I feel The Rescuers should be on the list, too.Disneykid wrote:Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland both deserve to be included (and the latter is looking more and more likely if we go by the European leaks). Or Disney could go back a few rarities of jewels and valuable rocks....The Silver Collection.....

I was pushing for Rhodium or Palladium, but Disney has never been one to, you know, make any sense at all.
But Diamond does feel a bit done... maybe there will at least be some consistency in packaging amongst releases? A boy can dream...

It's too bad they JUST released Pinocchio under the Platinum line...
Now would be a perfect time to start the entire Animated Classics collection under the Diamond Edition banner in order of theatrical release.
And also... I wonder if this will change the release schedule for the Platinums that were previously announced ? Maybe now we can start getting some more Animated Classics on Blu !

I don't know about anyone else, but whenever I hear the word "Diamond" in reference to DVDs, it reminds me of Marilyn Monroe: The Diamond Collection from 20th Century Fox.Brenders wrote:But Diamond does feel a bit done...

Hope all you want, it's probably not going to be any different... Disney loves the vault.bradhig wrote:Lets hope they keep'em on the shelves this time and don't do the vault thing.

From what I read between the lines in the Press Release, it looks like the Diamond Edition will be strictly Blu-Ray. I'm not sure what they'll do if they release a Blu-Ray and DVD at the same time, or if they are just going to move to a combo-release...
If they ONLY release the Blu-Ray, with a bonus DVD of the movie, they almost force people to buy the BR, and then they can say "Whee, our Blu-Ray sales are really climbing!"
Plus, if a consumer bought the combo pack, they might get tired of just watching the normal DVD, and want to see some of those fancy new special features, so they'd eventually have to go out and buy a Blu-Ray player.

just buy them when they come out and you won't have to worry about it.
it makes them more exciting when they are actually released again when they haven't been available for several years.
this release of snow white wouldn't be exciting at all if the old platinum was still in print.

regardless of what edition disney will come up with, they owe us a cleaner HD restoration of the package films and the dark ages films or else the existing copy wont be in sync with the rest in the canon and we'll lose them forever.im sure the package films once restored will be as glorious as fantasia. they showcases strong bold colors n designs worthy to be admired by HD audience.
do you still wait for me Dream Giver?

I hope they don't do that.
