I really didn't want to bring this discussion up again, in case all hell breaks loose (again), but today I got another copy of BatB on VHS whose quality is a bit better than my old one that I watched over and over again.
I also saw the DVD this week, so I was able to compare what I saw on the DVD and the VHS.
Now let me say, that my brain is probably used to the VHS, because I watched it so many times when I was a kid and the images from the VHS probably got burned into my mind.
I never used to notice anything about the DVD being very different except for the aspect ratio that I wasn't used to since the VHS was full screen.
Then after this discussion came up here on UD, I began to notice that the DVD did look a little lighter and (dare I say it) too bright (I mean, the beast isn't dark blonde, or is it? I don't know!).
However by adjusting the colors on my TV, the colors already looked a lot more like I was used to seeing them. But I can't deny that the DVD with the imax print did sometimes seem to lack some depth, that was probably caused by cleaning-up the lines for the IMAX-print.
So, basically I am a little torn, if this discussion here had some effect on my brain and "spoiled" the movie for me, so that I see something that isn't actually there (Did anybody see the How I met your mother episode where they all point out each other's annoying habits, that's what happened to me with the BatB DVD) or if the IMAX-print is indeed to light on the colors.
I think the CAPS files are probably inbetween the DVD and the VHS (VHS tends to be a little too dark, I noticed that in a lot of movies that I revisited on VHS after seeing them on DVD).
So, I think for the new DVD next year, they should put the OTV on there by simply transporting the CAPS files with no changes to them. Then the IMAX-version as it appeared in IMAX-theaters and of course the WIP (here seamless branching could be used with the OTV)
And I am really sorry for bringing this up again. I just felt I had to say how I felt about the whole thing and I tried to explain that also my mind might be playing tricks on me.

Well judging from the small clip that appered in the Princess and the Frog Trailer the colours have indeed changed agani though this time it isn't too bad.

1) VHS Edition
2) Original Platinum Edition DVD
3) HD Clip from Princess and the Frog
Although not exactly all the same clips they're from the same scene and in the scene the colours dont really change. The Original vhs version is too dark but then the Platinum looks like its a direct to disney sequel. The HD Clip from the Princess and the Frog is probably more than likely to come from the studios new hd print for the blu-ray. The colours are much subtler than the brighter dvd though not as darkas the vhs (which is a good thing in my opinion).
Although its only one clip i do think that disney may have got the colours right on this new edition, just need tosee some more clips![/img]

Yay, can I just say I love you for posting that!

Now seeing the three screencaps together, both the VHS (too dark, but I always knew that) and the DVD (too saturated, might also be the color on the TV or whatever) the new pic from the PatF trailer does look best. I don't know if it can be called "the original", but it's a pretty decent middle thing between VHS and DVD.

well i can tell you that my dvd looks nothing like that. neither does the princess and the frog clip look like that. the princess and the frog clip is much more vibrant and rich colored. the dvd is not that orange. something weird is up with those screencaps. i will see if i can take my own to explain.

I think the BATB clip in the PATF trailer are just the original caps files.
They always use the original, untampered files for trailers.
And they look fantastic.
Even the trailer for the BATB dvd travesty back then looked fantastic, and looked the same as the footage used in the PATF trailer now.
(take a look at the BATB dvd trailer on the 2003 Sleeping Beauty dvd, it looks the same).
The new dvd and blu-ray can turn out completely messed up though, as this has happened many times before.

You got that right. Though each collection usually gets it's start on a new format, so that's kinda logical.
Disney doesn't make the most sensible decisions.
Anyway I couldn't get that cap properly, so
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dPiqxX_lTd8&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dPiqxX_lTd8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Look at the BatB scene. It's colors are much less muted. And these colors are quite proper from personal experience.
Edit: I looked at the other caps again, and this does seem the same as the bottom one, but my TV(properly calibrated) is still more vibrant.
