Blu-ray Prices

Post by zackisthewalrus »

So, I'm really quite mad to see that Disney has been raising their prices on Blu-ray a lot lately. They started out selling discs at $34.99 SRP, a reasonable price for a new format. Now, they're at $44.99 SRP because apparently EVERYONE really cares about an extra DVD copy and a digital copy (that was sarcasm if you didn't sense it). I was ok when it was $39.99 SRP since many studios have that as their main price anyway, but $44.99 is WAY too much! I'd like to call attention to Warner Bros, who is including digital copies with all of their movies now, and, starting with "Inkheart," will include DVDs with the movies. Guess what the SRP is? $35.99! Warner Bros. has the right idea, and I like them for that. I don't know. Disney always has been the one to push for that extra dollar.

OK, my rant is over. Sorry about that.

Yeah, well It depends on how retailers take it. They might keep the price low enough for people to be okay with.

I'm mad about this decision too, but it's Disney. They almost NEVER lower the price, anyway.

Perhaps a boycott would teach them.

This is the reason why you always buy the new releases on the day they are released so you pay the sale price, which is usually $10 to $15 (or more sometimes) less than the SRP.

Or, if you aren't in a hurry to pick up the movie the day it is released, you can always lurk around your favorite Pawn Shop or Used DVD store and pick it up for a fraction of the price.

I have never, and will never, pay SRP for any movie regardless if it is Blu-Ray or standard DVD. That is just stupid, in my opinion. If I want a movie bad enough, I am at Best Buy on Tuesday morning and get the sale price, or I wait for two or three days and pick it up at a Pawn Shop or used DVD store.

BULLETIN: Since most of you know Blockbuster is closing its doors forever, they are now selling standard DVD's at 5 for $5 and Blu-Ray movies at 3 for $30. Get 'em while they last!!!!!!
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!
