max fleischers color classics

Post by wizzer »

well, i thought i'd start this thread because if you look in the childrens/animated/non-disney section of my collection you'll see that i've been adding alot of animated titles that i've been checking out since i've been expirencing disney burn-out. this one

is one i think alot of the members would enjoy. max fleischer did betty boop, superman and something else i'm not remembering right now. but anyway this is a 2 disc set that has a bunch of classic cartoons that are done in a unique style that uses real background filmstock thats animated somehow and it's just really cool and i'm going through this set right now and it's super cool. did i mention it was cool? anyway give it look, i give it a thumbs up. and you can use this spot for max fleisher appriciation too :)

I have a really old Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer VHS that also contains two other Christmas cartoons and one about fish. One of the Christmas-themed shorts was called "Somewhere in Dreamland". It was about two poor kids who travel to Dreamland (which is full of nice clothes, toys and candy) on what seems to be Christmas eve. Could this be the same short that gives your movie its title?

i just got done going through this superman disc and even though i was not a big fan of superfriends or superhero cartoons as a kid, i must say i really enjoyed these superman cartoons. the animation seems really ahead of its time and the stories and characters are really good. i have another disc called cartoon crazies goto war and it has a superman cartoon on there called 'eleventh hour' where superman goes out every night when the clock strikes eleven and commits acts of sabbotage against the japaneese army. like alot of other cartoons of the era that basicly make fun of the japaneese by caracature-big glasses, buck teeth--this cartoon just showed superman kicking their ass and sinking their ships with his bare hands. for the most part, superman is usually pitted up against mad scientists and gangster types and that lois lane is always getting in the way trying to get the big story-she can also fly a plane and operate a tommy gun too! so this is yet another suggestion from the library of obscure cartoon guy  check out this disc, it's good.

sounds like this cartoon you're thinking of is the title cartoon 'somewhere in dreamland' there's a part that really shows of the special animation process used, and its a part where the two kids are on a merry go round--it's actually live footage mixed with animation that gives it a real unique look.
