Idea for something to sell alongside Fantasia/Fantasia 2000:

Post by zackisthewalrus »

So, as we all know (or should), the next Platinums after "Snow White" is "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000." Alongside of this, they will be releasing "Destino." I was thinking about how last year at this time, they re-released "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros" as a 2-Pack for Cinco de Mayo. It got me to think, why not re-release "Make Mine Music" and "Melody Time" to go with the "Fantasia"s? I've always thought of them as like mini, jazzy Fantasia-like films. Knowing Disney, they'd probably still leave them edited, but this would be a good way to bring it to a new audience. Disney could offer a deal that's like "Buy Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 and Make Mine Music/Melody Time together and save $10" deal or something like that. Does anyone else think this could be a good idea?

I don't think it's a good idea.

F2K has to come out with Fantasia as it isn't strong enough to stand on its own. Destino is piggy-backing with Fantasia as well. You want to throw two more piggies on the back of Fantasia, and I think 5 catalog titles is a bit much at one time. The consumer only has so much money, better to just maximize the sales of Fantasia on Blu-Ray and DVD with F2K and Destino already pushing the dollar, rather than adding two more films to the mix (even if Make Mine Music and Melody Time were all on one disc).

Regardless, Make Mine Music and Melody Time both deserve to be released in uncut forms, that's exactly why I've been holding out on buying them. ;) I'd love to see any excuse to bring them back.

I agree, but knowing Disney, the only way that would happen is if they made a "Package Films" Treasure, and the chances of that are quite small.

There is no need for a 6min short film like "Destino" to have a 2-Disk set.
It should be an extra feature on "Fantasia".
