I'm pretty sure that I read that , at one point ( circa 1938 ) in England , Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was given an "H for Horror " certificate by The British Board Of Film Censors , because of Snow White's flight through the forest Snow White falling into the water and her flight from the Log Alligators was removed for many years, and certain of The Witch/Peddler Woman sequences , the sequence with The Witch where she finds a skeleton it's hand stretched out towards a pitcher of water says "Thirsty?" kicks the skeleton which falls apart and a spiderrs clambers out as sh cackles " Have a drink !! " sequence was excised ( cut out ) for several years!!

Here is the Boil Cauldron Boil sequence on You Tube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQHAUn1IgUs This version is very short there is shortened there is more dialogue from Lucille La Verne's toothless cackling voice Boil Caldron Boil - Boil Cauldron Boil !! Death Within Thy Depths I See - For One Who Dares To Rival Me - Brew The Magic Recipe - Boil Cauldron Boil !!!

I sincerely hope that this will get remastered too as on the 2001 Platinum Edition DVD it looked in a poorer quality print than the feature itself!

Snow White: Platinum Edition 2009

So Albert, Sleeping Beauty's laserdisc restoration was also used for the Special Edition? I know the Platimum got a new one.
yukitora wrote:a LOT of time is used up in fantasia-like scenes, especially when we meet the dwarves. For that reason this movie takes up a lot of patience. It's one of the longer disney films, considering how little plot points there are. This could go either way with today's generation of children, who are at the same time, easily amused and hyperactive.
What do you mean "fantasia-like scenes"? No scene in Snow White seems like Fantasia except possibly the queen's transformation. In Bambi there is "Little April Shower", in Dumbo there is "Pink Elephants on Parade", and in Cinderella there is "Sing Sweet Nightingale", all like Fantasia.

Today's kids, any kid of any generation, could fall in love with Snow White or any older Disney movie as long as they see it young enough.

If a child watches television before 2, they or more like to become hyper-active, and today's quick-cutting programming doesn't help.

I saw Cinderella when I was 3. I loved it despite it being the 90's by then.
yukitora wrote:I'm quite curious to see how the blu-ray will come out. Snow White was animated very similarly to the blue fairy, who didn't turn out very impressive in Pinocchio's HD debut. Even on the DVD you can see she kinda seems removed from the rest of the film, especially as her details seem to blur out. Were they rotoscoping?
She was rotoscoped, but rotoscoping at Disney is not how other studios did it, though they invented the name. The Disney artists were supposed to, and supposedly did, merely look at live-action for reference. They traced over the film footage stills on the walls, but did not use any of those tracings in the animation. They looked very closely at live-action frame by frame, but did not trace it frame by frame.

Yes. It's basically the 1997 computer restoration, except with 16:9 enhancement and higher resolution on DVD. The 2008 restoration was done by Lowry, while the 1997 restoration was in-house at Disney.

When I saw "fantasia-like scenes" I mean dialogueless scenes set to the rhythm of orchestral music. There are a lot of instances of the dwarfs simply moving about following the music.

Disney Duster, I find it surprising you catagorise Pink Elephants on Parade and Little April Shower as "fantasia-like scenes" because those two songs are very lyrically dependant. Fine examples of cinematic lyrics at that. Sweet Sweet Nightingale I barely remember, but it's a song sung by Cinderella right? You seem to be focusing on the experimental animation aspect of Fantasia too much, rather than the musical. Both are imporant aspects of the original fantasia. Unfortunately not so much in the sequel. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying you intepreted what I said rather differently to my intention.

Calm down, Charlie Brown! :P You must surely know by now that Disney is a bit lax with giving press releases etc. Even Cinderella had a pretty late press-release, and that was in the days when Disney were a bit better at DVD. :p

Yeah, on the Blu-Ray cover, it looks like a bowling game with the Peddler Woman about to hurl her apple at Snow White bowling pin and Dopey gazes with infatuation at PW to boot. That's the kind of cover you'd see MAD magazine put on one of their issues!

Yeah, that's funny!

But seriously, a PR would be nice.

And I still think the cover is lenticular.

The Witch is the worst image on the whole of the Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs cover - she's such a fabulous character in the movie but we should be seeing her whole face , not just her eyes above the Poisoned Apple - this really is the WORST Disney Cover Art EVER !!!

No I totally disagree we must get our opinions over to Disney Studios to dissuade them from actually using these totally sh***y covers they really are beyond appalling !!!

I prefer these newer cover arts to any of the GC covers (with the exception of Pocahontas and Alice's). Also let's not bring up Sleeping Beauty's SE cover or Poca's 10th An. cover......

Overall, not every cover will be perfect but i do wish that they simplify and make them all look more classy. I even love the border they add around the blu-ray PE's of SB and Pinoke.

They put blue borders on all their animated releases, with variations on the Narnia, NBC, and Pirates covers.

As for the covers, I prefer a simpler look on these new releases. I know I've said this before, and I'll say it again: we live in times where animated features are more often NOT put on the same level as other films, and are largely considered unsophisticated, "kiddies only" films. Simpler and classier will help such people see the light.

gee, sorry for not being specific enough

Really though, the covers now aren't as bad as I think they can be lol.

I still think that Disney should release single disc editions with crazy silly cover art and 2-disc special editions with something that looks more classic and collectible. They'd sell a lot better with older fans i think!

Thanks for your patronising attitude Chernabog_Rocks!!

I am a genuine fan of Vintage Disney animated movies from Mickey Mouse and the Silly Symphonies onwards. I love Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs , and I just hate to see it getting such a totally sub standard piece of Cover Art.

I was quite happy with the covers for the first two Disney classic animated movies to appear on Blu Ray : Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio of the two I liked Sleeping Beauty the best - a nice piece of cover art though I would have preferred Maleficent centre stage , I admit that the Price Philip Dragon fight was a really great scene - they both had far superior pieces of artwork for their covers , but as I have posted over and over the Blu Ray of the world's first full length Technicolor sound animated movie deserves a cover which is true to the beautiful artwork originally produced for Snow White , and from a studio which has produced so much stunning art over the years these covers are pedestrian to say the least!!

I far prefer the original 2001 Platinum Edition cover , I notice that the Collectors Book Edition of Snow White has an image of Snow White from the original 2001 Platinum Edition of Snow White , and a new image of the Wicked Queen arms raised I'd love to see a larger image of this cover! Does anyone out there have a higher resolution image of this Collectors Book Edition of Snow White please?

Your welcome ;) :P

Just merely noting that you seem to be over-reacting to something so minor in the grand scheme of things. You look at the cover of a dvd for how long? About a minute roughly, 30 seconds or so to pull it off a shelf, open it and another 30 for the reverse I'd assume. So it's not like your going to see it all the time like a work of art, a movie poster, calendar etc.

Honestly, the cover art should be the least worrying thing. I'd be more worried about what sort of bonus features are going to be on it, what's missing or could have been there etc.

I too am a fan of Vintage Disney, anything from the Alice and Oswald shorts onwards. However I'm not going to panic or get upset over something beyond my control and that won't matter in the end. I'm just happy that in the end I'll finally have Snow White on dvd and can watch it whenever I want without worrying about wearing it out like I have with my vhs. Never mind all the extra bonus features that come along with it.
