Welcome Zac, and here's hoping you'll get out of that dusty, dirty and depressing closet sometime soon.

UD can help. I know it did for me!

There are things straight people want to do but they don't do them because they trust God has reasons why they shouldn't do them.
Even if one does believe in God, it's important to know that the Bible is a document written and edited by men. God didn't author it. Nor is it even one book. It's a collection of very different religious texts which were all written in different eras. And they were written in ancient times, by people who didn't even knew where the sun went at night; they were making up stories to explain the world around them, and to give their people a history. In later days, stories were added which we nowadays call 'the new testament', but the selection was rather arbitrarily decided by a handful of religious leaders.

Maybe less people would take a book that literally if they actually knew something about it. I've found that the people who are the most religious know the least about the history of their religion. Nor do they want to know. Just believing in one book is a lot easier.
Disney's Divinity wrote:As for the quote, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable," I can understand why so many people take this as a reason to be anti-gay [...]
And don't forget what other "abominations" are listed alongside "lieing with a man". There are some strange rules. Like, shaving is also an abomination, or eating shrimp. But do any of the fundies try to push a ban on shaving or shrimps? No, they pick and choose. If homosexuality would really matter that much to God, why did he list it so casually among many other trivial bullsh*t? But good luck trying to get a reasonable answer to that question...
Disney's Divinity wrote:No, I'm not saying human beings should act like animals, but they're living proof that being gay is natural.
But humans *are* animals. We can pretend we're not, because we want to feel superior, but biologically speaking, we are. But we're the only species who discriminate against are own because of their sexual preference. That's how "evolved" we are...
Disney's Divinity wrote:Regardless, I don't none of this has to do with gay marriage at all. That's a legal issue, not a Biblical one. I thought the Church and State were separated years ago?
That's just in theory. Can you still count how many times conservative politicians have said "this is a Christian country"? I lost count a long time ago. And how can you expect a seperation between church and state when the president is sworn in on a Bible and he has a priest to perform during his Inauguration?

So I took these photos for Chris, but thought some people might appreciate them here. Max Mutchnick, one of the creators of "Will & Grace", graduated from my college (our campus center is named after him). Last year, we got the set of "Will & Grace" as a gift, and it currently resides in our library. When I told Chris, he insisted I take pictures of it. I did so early this morning when I got to work (I think they tend to frown upon people taking photos of it), and here they are. You can tell it's in a smaller space, and there's no hallway that leads to the bedrooms, but it's the living room fo sho. Anyhow, enjoy.

zackisthewalrus wrote:Whoa! That's awesome! I've never heard of a set being in a library. Haha.
Yeah, that was Max Mutchnick's stipulation for some reason, that it be put in the library. There's still a fair amount of contention about that, because our library is relatively small (being a college literally in downtown Boston, we have a limited amount of space), and a lot of people would have preferred it to be study space instead. Personally, I think the set would be more appreciated in another building, one more accessible, but whatever...

So as a bisexual am I considered an outcast amongst any community? :p

I have many gay friends who are very welcoming of it (especially since I'm one of the few at the center who is bi and can represent the sexuality for panel discussions), but from a lot of sources and columnists I have, it seems bi's are equally shamed by any militant in either community, especially homosexual militants who just label people like me and my sexuality as being "too spineless to completely come out." I guess it feels like I needed to vent for a moment about it here amongst others who are a lot more accepting, especially since I've came across both radical Christians (you'll burn in hell for liking men!) and really militant gay leaders (you're shameful for having a girlfriend!) So, yeah, I'm not sure where I was going with that rant. Just that it's been on my mind a lot lately and I needed to vent.

Anyway, welcome to the discussion, Zack! You'll find here that UD has the most friendliest gay community on any Disney board anywhere. I've certainly learned that from personal experience.

And thanks for posting those pictures Brendan! All that's in my college library was a coffee shop. :p
