16:9 question

Post by Loomis »

A friend and I are looking to buy or rent a digital video camera.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between 16:9 progressive scan and 16:9 anamorphic?

Thanks in advance...

An anamophic lens will squeeze a horizontal picture to fit a regular 1.37:1 frame. DVD's sometimes use 16:9 anamophic lens, read the back of a DVD and it may say: 16x9 anamorphic

Sorry, I don't know what a progressive scan does :( , but I hope that I helped you out on anamophic lenses!

Thanks guys, we seem to have worked it out, but it is a crazy baffling world, I have to say.

Glad to be of service...however...I don't really know why I know that useless information...just one of the many useless items floating about my mind I guess!

Progressive Scan it suppose to give you high definition when hooked up to a HDTV via a S-Video cable. DVDs don't use a anamorphic lens but are encoded to be anamorphic. Theater cams use anamorphic lenses to fill their screens thus make the movie anamorphic.

so both cams are anamorphic 16:9 one is just normal WS cam the other cam give you the choice to plug your cam to a HDTV or make a HD transfer. like people said you need to read the manual to see which feature is offered
