Disneyland or Walt Disney World?
I'm going to be on an airplane for the very first time in a few weeks time (going to Spain to meet relatives) and in light of this, I've been strongly thinking about where to go after Spain next time I have to go on an airplane and I'm very much interested in going to the U.S.A. next time I go on a plane, thinking strongly about the two Disney resorts.
I'm indecisive on which resort to go to because whilst both resorts have a huge amount of potential:
- Walt Disney World has obviously got plenty of wonderful stuff to do but I'm worried it might be too big for me on my first American trip
and
- Disneyland Resort (California), despite being smaller, has the original Disney park and a really colourful array of rides and attractions but is a lot further away from the UK than WDW
so I'm now facing a bit of a dilemma.
What do you suggest for someone going to the U.S.A for the first time and wanting to go to one of these resorts? Which one would be the better one to go to for a trip like this?
I'd really love to hear from you!
- Eric.

I love them both!! I think you should go to both!! Both WDW & Disneyland are a blast as I have been there many times & know where everything is! Get the Birnbaum book from Amazon as it's the official book for both parks!! & check every Disney site on the net. MouseTimes, MousePlanet, LaughingPlace, & so on! Have fun in Spain!

Trip to the U.S.: DisneyLand or Disney World?
I would say it depends on how much time you have. If you don't have a lot of time, you may not want to visit Disney World first because there's so much to do it will take at least 3 or 4 days to feel like you've seen enough of it (unless you get tired out quickly or think you will be satisfied not seeing all of the 4 main lands it's composed of). It's made of the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM Studios). I think it would take 4 or 5 days to feel you've seen enough and get a chance to visit all the lands.
So if you don't have that much time, maybe only 2 or 3 days, you may want to choose Disneyland instead, which has less, but is still great, and the original.
Then, when it comes to how much you can take, worrying about how big it is, I guess you have to use your own judgement and think of past times and if you've felt like you've had too much come at you before.
The reason I think you should go to Disney World this time, if you have enough time to see a good amount of it, is because who knows when next time you will be able to go on a trip like this will be? So you may want to see Disney World, what most people think is the best park, first. Hopefully you plan on going more than once to Disney World to try and see it all.
From my own experience, I went only one time (so far) and had 7 days in Disney World and I still never saw every last thing in every park, but I saw what I most wanted to see, and everything I saw was great. You can look for books that tell you what is the best to see and ride and try, to make the most of your trips, unless you can spend a month there, then you could see it all!

Like has been said before, it depends on how much time you have/your plans/interests. If you're only expecting to visit the Magic Kingdom, might as well go to California to Disneyland. I haven't been there since I was little because I always opt for Disney World, because I love EPCOT, Disney (Hollywood) Studios, and Animal Kingdom too (I don't have a fave), but in my opinion, each of the 4 Florida parks deserve a full day's attention, so that's how you should decide. If you have 4 to 5 days (and the cash for that many) to spend at Disney theme parks, then by all means, go to Florida to Walt Disney World.
For the record though, as great as they are now, they were in their peak in the late '80's and early '90's. EPCOT's front half (Future World) has nearly completely changed, and in my opinion, it used to be TONS better! World Showcase is still awesome though! Animal Kingdom is awesome (though I haven't been there in a while as my last Florida trip was in 2004, and we didn't even get to hit Animal Kingdom that year, so I think I haven't been there since 2001), and Disney Hollwood Studios is fantastic too but is lacking a lot without the old Animation tour and Backlot Experience. Disneyland in California has the Indiana Jones ride (I'm dying to experience, because I'm a huge Indy fan) and the Roger Rabbit ride I also have yet to experience (my favorite film), plus others like Alice and Mr. Toad, and the Matterhorn (never ridden that either!), but it's just one park! Well, two, but I don't think California Adventure will be worth visiting until they redo it. So, if you're going to spend more than one day, I say opt for Florida. We like to spend 5 days at the parks. One for each, then usually a day back at the Magic Kingdom.

Compare and Contrast
I personally perfer Disneyland. THough I think the best choice for you is to figure out what type of experience you want. If you want shorter lines, longer rides and a charecter filled experience you should pick Disneyland. Disnneyland has far more charecters walking around
and thier Magic Kingdom has a lot more in it... Including a lot of rides that were taken out of Walt Disney World.
However if you want less charecter filled experince with things like Science, International Brotherhood real live animals and general movie stuff you should go to Walt Disney World.

We were in Florida in September and saw a lot of characters. We saw them in all 4 parks. I got pictures with most of them.jimdotbeep wrote:I personally perfer Disneyland. When we were in Disneyland for Christmas we barely saw any characters. I'd say go to Disney World as it's more fun.

Have now been to 4 out of the 5 Disney resorts (yes, it's scary when I think about it), I prefer the original Disneyland.
WDW is excellent. It's pure Disney. I don't think the Magic Kingdom park looks as good as Disneyland, but the other parks certainly make up for this deficit. However, I also feel that there is just too much of it. Elements of each park are fabulous, but I've always felt that they could be condensed down into a couple of parks. EPCOT is probably the only one that has a unique strength of its own and stands out as a "Disney park", but perhaps this is because it is the only Disney park I've been drunk in.. Animal Kingdom has that fabulous centrepiece - the safari ride - and you may enjoy Expedition Everest (I thought it was a bit of a let down, but anyways...), but I found there wasn't much to do as an adult after those two or three E-ticket rides. Disney Studios is terrific, and does have some unique rides (Rock 'n Rollercoaster) and its Tower of Terror is superior to the Californian one.
That said...
There is something magical about the original Disneyland park. I've been there three times now (not bad when you consider it is a 13 hour flight away), and it never fails to impress. I think because it is confined by space - a problem WDW has never had - they've managed to pack in as much as possible. Plus, I think if you want to ride one of Disney's truly unique rides from the last 15 years, Indiana Jones is the way to go. DCA is a fine companion park, despite what critics say. Its expansion should make it even more so. Tower of Terror and California Screamin' are must rides.
