What Movie Did You Just Watch? - Forever

Finding Nemo - started it around 11:30 and it finished at 1ish, though I don't remember what time. I was really sleepy so I was dozing in and out during the last half-hour of it, and Jane actually had to wake me up when it was over. I still enjoy the movie even though the general consensus among UDers (and fans) is that it's now a love-it-or-hate-it film, many calling it overrated. I don't believe that, as I think it deserves every bit of hype and praise it gets. If anything, Cars was an overrated film and I'm still baffled at its continued popularity. But back to Nemo. It was the first time I saw the film this year, so it was a pleasant experience. I'll probably go through the bonus features tomorrow. A++

Cars is not my favorite of Pixar's films, but it's grown on me, since. The Video Game for Cars that was released with the movie is actually good, for being a movie-based game.

As for Finding Nemo, I've seen it a few too many times. Next time I watch it will hopefully be the Blu-ray, so that some of the initial charm(which is still there) comes back to me.

In class today, we started watching Chicken Run. I haven't seen the film since the days in which I had VHS, and now it just seems too corny for my liking. It's weird how that happens with some kids' films.

i watched "Atlantis - the lost empire" on dvd. It's not really one of my favorite disney movies, but think it's also not a bad one in general. Entertaining to watch it occasionally.

Atlantis is different, and I definitely like it. I like the angular style and the "adventure movie-type" feel to it.

Also those Giant Stone Men are really cool.

In my mythology class we started watching the extended version of The Two Towers. I haven't seen all of the regular version so this will be a new experience.

Well, we voted. There were only a couple people who wanted to watch Fellowship. Most wanted to watch Towers. I think my teacher just decided that we had probably seen all three of them so the choice was ours. I had just recently watched Fellowship, and I was ready to see Towers (which I haven't seen in it's entirety).

Seven Pounds - I really liked it, as depressing as it was. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson gave stellar peformances.

Beautiful Girls - Natalie Portman was definitely my favorite part about this mediocre rom com.

Coyote Ugly - I had been wanting to see this for some time...I don't think I'll be watching it again.

Shopgirl - I didn't really like this one much, either, although I usually love Claire Danes.

I'm ten minutes into This Film Is Not Yet Rated, and three little letters: O.M.G! I already am thinking that they MPAA needs to be shut down and re-thought, as they are the only movie-rating group that remains entirely secretive. They must be stopped!

Edit: It's co-produced by Netflix, so it should be easy to get. GET IT!

The boat that rocked

I was soooo excited to see this movie, since it stars a lot of great actors and it's a Richard Curtis, so it can't be really bad and I was not disappointed. It's a lot of fun and the soundtrack is pretty much totally amazing. The movie might be lacking in plot and the ending dragged a tiny little bit, but it's definitely a good Curtis comedy and if you like just having a fun time at the movies this one is a great choice.

Shakespeare In Love
We were watching it on DVD simply to pass the time before "Ghost Whisperer", and there was still about 15 minutes left when "Ghost Whisperer" came on. So we watched it (a great episode, and I'm not saying that just because it had 3 soap opera actors in it - Thad Luckinbill, Amelia Heinle, an Lesli Kay), then immediately resumed the movie. I really enjoy the movie, it's one of my favourites. The script is rife with obvious (and not-so-obvious) references to past/future Shakespeare works, as well as being smartly-written and performed. It's hard to pick a favourite scene, though my favourite character would have to be Hugh Fennyman (played by Tom Wilkinson). He immediately forgets about the debt owed to him when Shakespeare offers him a bit part of the apothecary in Romeo and <strike>Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter</strike> Juliet, and like any good actor, goes to extremes to make sure his part is done right.

I can't wait for the film to come to Blu-Ray. Not only would it look stellar, but hopefully it'll include some new features like a trivia track, a new longform documentary, an isolated music track, and extensive galleries of the set/costume design and production photos. The DVD is quite good, at least for 1999 standards. There's two excellent commentaries, two trailers, and 24 TV spots, a few deleted scenes, informative-but-brief text pages, and two okay-but-short featurettes (20-minute "Shakespeare in Love and On Film" and 3-minute "Academy Award-Winning Costumes"). Just goes to show how much the standards continue to be raised when it comes to home video. The commentaries are excellent, but the featurettes don't do the movie justice when it comes to discussing the production. It's good enough, but far too short (though it covers a lot of areas nicely). The commentaries are better, especially the cast/crew one (which is actually edited from the extensive interviews that were condensed into the 20-minute featurette).

Movie Grade: A+
DVD Grade: B-

Hatching Pete - missed the first half-hour or so, but the story is so simple and the dialogue so repetitive that Jane and I already figured out what we missed in like, 10 minutes. It's not the greatest thing to come from Disney Channel, and is hardly on the same level as their quirky-but-fun films like Minutemen or Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off. But it's somewhat enjoyable. It's got a good message too about hatching out of your shell, lol. But overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, and doubt I'll get the DVD (which comes with Dadnapped, a DCOM I stopped watching after about half-an-hour).
Grade: C-

Serendipity - this is one of those rare romcoms where the two leads hardly spend time together in the entire film, and yet they share so much chemistry in the few scenes they have. I remember blindbuying it in Florida a few years ago simply to fulfill a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal with GameStop's used DVDs. I'm glad I blindbought it cause it has become one of my favourite romcoms since then, and it's just a joy to watch each time. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale are great in the roles, and very believable together. They're two of the few actors in the world who seemingly has chemistry with everyone they work with.
Grade: A

Music from Another Room - was watching it this afternoon by chance (it had just started as I turned on the television), though I've been meaning to see it for sometime. Jude Law was only 26 when he did this, but he looks like a frickin' teenager, lucky bastard. It's not the most standard romcom story (a guy reunites with the girl that he, as a little boy, helped bring into the world), and there are a couple subplots that are quite good. Overall, it's not too believable, but it's got its charm and you can't help but want all the characters to have the happy ending they deserve. The only subplot that went partly-unresolved was that of the older brother's marriage (older brother of the girl), but it's one of the subplots that I didn't care for (it seemed to be there more for comic relief). It's worth watching for anyone who loves romcoms. Plus, it's got that instantly-recognizable-as-late-90s song "Truly, Madly, Deeply." Ah, Savage Garden. What the hell ever happened to you guys?
Grade: A-

Clue - as always, a classic that everyone should watch at least four times in their life. It's hilarious and highly quotable, with a wealth of talented actors, Madeline Kahn especially. "Flames...flames..on the side of my face..."

Bolt Even my fourth viewing leaves me touched at the end. I might just wait another while before watching again.

Bridge to Terabithia It was aired on TV last night, and I decided to watch. Good, as usual, and a good ending.

X-Men Still good, but I've never been a fan of the comics.
