Clearly, something along those lines.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's a combination of both the Pixie Dust and the "magic" of the Studio in general.

Am I right?

Snow White: Platinum Edition Blu-ray

:jawdrop:

Well, I guess I'm learning people don't read all of my posts.
The luminous particles that accompany the Fairy Godmother's magic spell so enthralled Walt Disney that he asked his effects animators to put more of it in the scene. The effect was known forever after as "Disney Dust."
- The Animated Movie Guide

And my own signature you didn't read!:
"In later years, magic wands gave forth what has come to be known as Disney dust."
- Disney's Aladdin: The Making of an Animated Film

Disney dust first came out in Cinderella, the magical stars that held the magic doing all the transformations. Peter Pan made a huge use of the effect, except called it pixie dust, which was also changed from the original J. M. Barrie's term "fairy dust". Since then Tinker Bell has been a big b*tch and everyone calls Disney dust pixie dust now. I kid, actually it's not her fault, it's the current Disney company's.

I wish The Little Mermaid would do a bad ass box set like that, when it does get released on Blu-Ray. I would totally pay for that, one can dream!

And uh...Disney dust is in my animated avatar, you know.

Hold on now, what about in Pinocchio with the Blue Fairy? She's got a lot of sparkles and such going on there so wouldn't that be the first use of Disney Dust?

Those sparkles were lines, though. Not dusty-looking.

She's very shiny and those "lines" are early forms of sparkle dust or whatever fairys have. Look to when she heals pinnoch it's very "dusty" too I guess.

But according to Dusters siggy magic wands give forth Disney Dust. There's no rule saying Disney Dust can't have different visual forms at least not to my knowledge.

That's true. I was thinking of when she first animated him.

Disney dust is just one of the many reasons why the 50s era was so great.

I'd love to live in the 50s. They sound so innocent compared to these modern times. PLus, if I could withdraw from my account, I'd be rich.

Glad you had the courage to ask for the both of us.

Disney Duster:
Revelation Alert = And wow, now I see the significance of Disney Duster's name! :) :) :) Thank you for filling us in on the history of the dust!

This is a pretty interesting discussion about her age, how old she was in the original book. I've never read the book. So if she's supposed to have been 7 years old, how can they have her finding a prince?! Even when that book was written that's a bit young to be lusting after a prince.

Even if the Disney animators "aged" her to be 14, that is really too young (even by 1920s/1930s standards) to be married off to a prince (no matter how good looking he is). To me, she seems much older in the movie, at least the "legal age" of 18.

The colors of her dress being the same as Pinocchio: Well, it was the 30s (Depression era) and perhaps they were trying to save money on ink  . Seriously, maybe that was a popular color combination of the day. Or perhaps the particular animators in charge of creating both films liked that color combination. I really do not like blue and yellow together on anything.

Is she pretty or sexy? I've always thought the Queen is beautiful (she could even be considered sexy). But Snow White has a different kind of beauty and with her, the focus seems not to be on her particular facial features, but that her fair skin and dark hair make her beautiful. Being fair seems to be the standard of beauty in this movie.

Escapay:
Now how about those DVDs that you can record on with your computer? Those are being packaged in jewel boxes and essentially I cannot tell the difference between those and CDs now.

Someone further back in this thread was speculating that the thickness of the box might indicate an extra disc being thrown in. But if you look at the original release in (2002?) of SW, that was in a thicker box too, when compared to the 2-disc releases of the rest of the Platinum editions, yet there was just the 2 discs in the SW release.

Janet Gaynor

Post by Deco King »

Walt Disney himself wanted Snow White to resemble a Janet Gaynor type of girl. Janet Gaynor was a cute singing star of the 1920's/30's. I believe she went on to marry Al Jolson star of The Jazz Singer which Warner Bros movie was much vaunted as the first sound or "Talkie" film!

If you You Tube her name , there are various clips of her singing style , quite similar to that of Adriana Caselotti who eventually took the role of
Snow White!! You can see her "little girl-ish" type that was obviously the style that Disney wanted for the character!

That's because the Blue Fairy has the Elder Wand. She cannot be defeated in battle.

Does anyone know what kind of restoration they will do/have done this time?

Did they go back to the original negatives with this one too?
Or do they just use the 2001 version and adjust the lines and patches digitally?

And what about the sound? Will they separate all the instruments, chorus parts, sound affects, voices, music, like they did with Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio and create a whole new soundtrack with different timings, etc?
