Eww... Hideous and overpriced.
ALL OF IT! All the covers (3 COVERS!?! 2 for what is essentially the same release?) look awful. Really bad. I hope they change, because, most people do judge the book by the cover.
And I was actually thinking about shelling out for the Collector's Set, but that's pretty pricey...
Hopefully the Bonus Features won't be as half-baked as all this stuff.

That collector's set is absolutely stunning...but the price is ridiculous. A retail price of $150 would be more reasonable. I mean, really, if we're going to estimate the value, you've got the BD itself retailing for about $30, a pin set that would normally go for about $60, then the other $60 for the book, lithos, and fancy packaging. Even then it still seems slightly steep but not too bad.
For frame of reference, WB is coming out with a lavish Wizard of Oz BD set the same month that retails for only $85. While we don't know what physical goodies that set comes with, it'll likely carry at least a book and lithos, and probably a special collectible item or two.
I was honestly tempted at picking Snow White's set up until I saw the $250 price tag. There's only one Disney animated feature for which I'd pay that amount, and considering the chances of that one happening are slim, I'm going to have to pass on Snow White's. I have to at least give Disney props for catering to us collectors, even if it's only the rich ones.
And since the newest cover art posted on HighDef Digest features Snow White herself prominently again, I think it's safe to assume that the dreaded peddlar woman one is just a lenticular effect. I don't keep my slipcovers, anyway, so its existence doesn't bother me so long as Snow is the main one on the BD case itself.

Im hoping the price may decrease a little before it sells. Because you are right Disneykid, all that is not worth 250 bucks..... "sigh" Oh Disney.

This is very much confusing. So im trying to figure this out. There is going to be:
a 2-Disc Bluray + DVD w/ Bluray Cover art and case on Oct. 6
a 2-Disc DVD + Bluray w/ DVD Cover art and case on Oct. 6
a 2-Disc DVD w/ distinct DVD cover art on Nov. 24
a Bluray and 7-plush set on Oct. 6
a Bluray and book set on Oct. 6
a Bluray Limited Edition Box Set on Oct. 6 for $250!
This is a big rerelease. If anything I would get the 2-Disc DVD + Bluray w/ DVD packaging and case since I dont have a Bluray player and the cover art looks cooler. I just wish they would release the actual cover art not the one with the "DVD + Bluray Combo Pack" and "Limited Time" across the top and bottom. It looks like they did it on Paint.

The collector's edition looks like a real way for Disney to cash-in on SW fans. Only a huge amount of packaging could overcome that cover.
But really, the box looks nice. I'd almost be tempted to care.
EDIT: I just hope the next time around, TLM gets a Collector's Edition, too. TLK and Aladdin had beautiful sets, and I was so disappointed when they stopped. I really wanted a box with Triton's palace on the cover, like the Cave of Wonders on Aladdin's. *sigh*

@Everyone: How much difference in price do you think the 2-Disc DVD+ Blu-Ray is to just the 2-Disc DVD? If it's not much of a difference I might do that.

Actually, it's just the 2-disc Blu-Ray + DVD with DVD Cover art and case.o0Andy0o wrote:a 2-Disc DVD + Bluray w/ DVD Cover art and case on Oct. 6
Basically, there will be five ways to buy the Blu-Ray (and all will have the bonus DVD), but only one way to buy the two-disc DVD:
2-Disc Blu-Ray in Blu-Ray case - basically the "standard" 2-disc release without all the extra swag (beyond the bonus DVD). It'll come in the usual blue Blu-Ray case with Blu-Ray artwork. SRP $39.99
2-Disc Blu-Ray in DVD case - the exact same thing as the other "standard" release (2-disc Blu-Ray and bonus DVD), except in a DVD case, with the DVD artwork. SRP $39.99
2-Disc Blu-Ray with Seven Dwarfs Plushes - the Blu-Ray (and bonus DVD) with seven plushes. $79.99
2-Disc Blu-Ray with Book Packaging - the Blu-Ray (and bonus DVD) in special book packaging. SRP $59.99
2-Disc Blu-Ray Limited Edition Collector's Set - the Blu-Ray (and bonus DVD) with a lot of extra stuff: lithos, book, special packaging, pins, etc. SRP $249.99
All five come out October 6.
The regular 2-Disc DVD won't come out until November 24, likely won't get packaged as the Plush, Book, or LE sets, and has the SRP of $29.99

No problem.o0Andy0o wrote:Thanks for the clear up.

Perhaps because the Blu-Ray packaging doesn't match up well on a DVD shelf, and there are some anal-retentive fans out there who want the cases to be uniform. The DVD packaging could help with that.o0Andy0o wrote:That is extremely odd and lame. Why would anyone care if it's in DVD or Bluray packaging.
You pay extra for that magic Disney touch.o0Andy0o wrote:And is it me or all the sets are way expensive?

I don't understand that either - they are releasing the same exact package with two different covers? Is this a way to get people to buy two of the same thing just so that we can have both covers?o0Andy0o wrote:Thanks for the clear up.

Also, which Blu-Ray will be included in the box sets - the one with the DVD packaging or the one with the Blu-Ray packaging? Probably the one with the Blu-Ray packaging.
I'm sticking with the standard Blu-Ray release with Blu-Ray packaging...I've never seen so many options for ONE movie....

The version with the two BDs and one DVD inside of a DVD case, as far as I can tell, will have the same cover as the BD case one. I know Amazon shows the DVD case one having Snow White in the mirror and the BD case one as having the peddlar woman, but perhaps the BD one will be lenticular whereas the DVD one won't. Remember that the art on Amazon is really more for retailers, hence the ugly banners explaining which version is which. Stores like Best Buy need a clear way of delineating the two editions/cases, so Disney's publicity artwork lets them do that for their print ads.
Either way, it seems to be Disney's way of tricking customers into buying the BD. Even as a supporter of Blu-ray, I find this distasteful. It also begs the question of where exactly retailers are going to shelve this edition: in the DVD aisle or the BD aisle? I'm assuming the DVD aisle. I just hope that that version places the DVD disc first in the packaging ahead of the other two BD discs, otherwise there are going to be a lot of angry soccer moms demanding their money back.
I also suspect another editorial by Luke around the time of this release because unless he manages to get a BD player by October, either Aaron or I will have to review the set. I really do think Disney is making this release more complicated than it needs to be. Just get rid of the misleading DVD case edition and release the normal DVD (meant for November) simulataneously with the standard BD. The end.

Well, as we all know, they can demand their money back - but I'm sure the details of the packaging will be on the box, and there IS a DVD in there to watch...so really, no excuses - and once media is opened .... it can't be returned - which we all know.Disneykid wrote:The version with the two BDs and one DVD inside of a DVD case seems to be Disney's way of tricking customers into buying the BD. This will be very interesting.
