So Dear, Monkey's Uncle & Zorro DVD at DisneyShopping

Post by merlinjones »

Great news!!! DisneyShopping.com has made a deal with Disney Movie Club to carry certain Disney DVD titles that have never been in stores (after an exclusive window with the Club) with no membership strings attached!!! So we can get single copies without a DMC subscription or paying scalper prices in the secondary market!

Their first offerings as of today:

"So Dear to My Heart"

http://disneyshopping.go.com/disney/sto ... -Heart-DVD

"The Monkey's Uncle"

http://disneyshopping.go.com/disney/sto ... -Uncle-DVD

and "Zorro" Season 1 Box Set

http://disneyshopping.go.com/disney/sto ... 5-Disc-DVD

These are the same versions as the Disney Movie Club (Zorro is colorized) and I'm sure they'll carry more titles if these do well. This may be a way film buffs finally get easy access to more Walt era titles. I'm excited!

I hope this is a sign that they'll be coming to stores soon. I also wonder how long it will take for them to put up Zorro season 2.

Odd. The DisneyShopping.com page for So Dear To My Heart shows the old Gold Collection cover (for the release that was cancelled in 2001). I wonder if that's what they ship out (perhaps it has the 25-minute "Lost and Found" footage featurette), or if they simply have the wrong cover up and people who order it will get the DMC version (with the 2 cartoons).

If it is the Gold Collection DVD they're shipping out (perhaps discs were pressed and covers printed before the release got delayed, then cancelled, and they were sitting in a warehouse forever), I wouldn't mind rebuying it again for the "Lost and Found" feature.

Damn. I'll probably just order The Monkey's Uncle then.

I'm hoping they'll also get Zorro Season 2 and The Incredible Journey.

Which of the other current DMC exclusives should DisneyShopping carry?

They have since corrected the art for both So Dear and Zorro - - these are the same yellow banded covers from DMC.

If they have a second wave from the previous DMC exclusives I'm hoping for The Incredible Journey and Zorro Season 2 Box Set at least. I hope they keep coming...

I guess the kicker is that if you order the films through the DMC, you're not paying full-price for each movie, since there are the deals (Buy 1, get the rest for 50% off, etc.).

I just clicked the Disney Shopping link for So Dear to My Heart, and it says that it's $10.99 () and that it is currently unavailable.
The Monkey's Uncle is also $10.99, and is in stock, and Zorro is $54.99 and will ship in 1 week. I just checked on DMC's website, and the Zorro Season 1 5-pack is $59.95...I get free shipping when I order 2 or more DVDs, but for those of you who are DMC members and who don't get free shipping, your best bet might be to buy it from DisneyShopping.com (unless you'll be getting a great deal on other DVDs in your order). Why do both of the Zorro sets (the one from the DMC and the one shown on DisneyShopping.com) have different packaging? Are they the same exact set? Lately, I've been getting really interested in some of the live-action films I was never too interested in before...

Awesome that they sold out of "So Dear to My Heart" already - - at least people are finding these movies over there. I'm sure it's being re-ordered since it's only been up a week!

Bodes well for more titles! (Mental mantra: "Zorro Season 2").

FYI - - "So Dear to My Heart" is back in stock at DisneyStore.com after having been sold out for a few weeks.

They also have a bunch of OOP Walt Disney Treasures up now for only $16.50 (Tomorrowland, On the Front Lines, MM in Living Color Vol II, Pluto Vol I)!
