Alright ladies and gentleladies... I was reading Wikipedia's page on Gay Icons and I came across something interesting:
Disney films responsible for gay children???
On the page there's an excerpt from the book A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality, by Joseph Nicolosi and Linda Ames Nicolosi, and it says:
Either way, I wouldn't change my multi-million viewings of The Little Mermaid as a kid for anything in the world.
Thoughts/comments?

I found that to be pretty interesting. I mean, no duh about gay men choosing women as their icons and loving Disney princesses... but to say it causes gay children? Hmm. Well, this is a Disney forum and most, or at least a good majority, of the male members (tee-hee) are gay/bi. Could they have a point?Gay men are invariably captivated by larger-than-life feminine images, and they do not choose men as their icons. Instead, they become enthralled with Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, Bette Davis, and Bette Midler (tough, assertive, "phallic" women) or Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Princess Di (tragic, misunderstood women). As children, they are captivated by images of Pocahontas, the Little Mermaid and Cinderella. Adulation of female icons permits an escape into the secret feminine fantasy of childhood, providing an evasion to escape the challenge of developing their masculine potential.
Either way, I wouldn't change my multi-million viewings of The Little Mermaid as a kid for anything in the world.
Thoughts/comments?

I'm more offended by the title of the book which suggests homosexuality is something that comes from begin raised instead of begin born with.
What happens if Jimmy likes Lion King and sports but grows up to be a guy who's attracted to the other boys in his locker room? Ariel didn't cause that.
I'll continue to love Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Little Mermaid (plus The Swan Princess) just the same myself though (and maybe beat the author of this book with a VHS copy of each)

Well it's obvious the book is stupid, but that wasn't the point of the post.Flanger-Hanger wrote:I'm more offended by the title of the book which suggests homosexuality is something that comes from begin raised instead of begin born with.
There's living proof of that on this board. Except his name is Kyle, not Jimmy.Flanger-Hanger wrote:What happens if Jimmy likes Lion King and sports but grows up to be a guy who's attracted to the other boys in his locker room? Ariel didn't cause that.
Oh god, don't do that! You might ruin your movies!Flanger-Hanger wrote:I'll continue to love Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Little Mermaid (plus The Swan Princess) just the same myself though (and maybe beat the author of this book with a VHS copy of each)

I think that's some of the most stupid things I've ever read!
strong female role-models aren't the cause of gay childrens, is like saying that the old icon of "Macho likes stallone, swazcheneger, van dame and bruce lee" were truth!
I'm personally fan of some strong female roles like Maleficent, and I know many who love characters like Cinderella or Ariel(but because who wouldn't like a girl like that as girlfriend?

Well, that one I might blame on her.SpringHeelJack wrote:I suppose it's Ariel's fault that I also secretly desire to be a mer-person, too?

So... it was the fault of a fish that he wanted to become a mer-person?PeterPanfan wrote:That was obviously Dory's fault. No need to be silly and blame it on the Mermaid.SpringHeelJack wrote: I suppose it's Ariel's fault that I also secretly desire to be a mer-person, too?
Never the less, a fish who has only been around since 2003, as opposed to a mermaid who has been around since 1989, which, unlike you, is more appropriate time-wise to our childhoods, which is likely to when these desires to be a mer-person developed.
Your logic is flawed.

Okay, I had to stop reading here to prevent my IQ dropping a few points once again... What is it with these wackjobs that they don't uderstand that 'being gay' is something you *are*, not something you choose. Have you ever heard a straight person say: "well, at age 15 I chose to be straight"? And why would anybody choose a so-called lifestyle which will lead to discrimination and harrassment by some people at some point in their lives? People are essentially cattle: they want to belong in a group. So why would they 'choose' a lifestyle that's not the norm? It doesn't make sense. But good luck trying to tell that to those idiots.xxhplinkxx wrote:Disney films responsible for gay children???

And it was a joke. Hopefully you've heard of one.

But Ursula is the reason I'm here. Visit my dark period in 2005 (
