As long as they are unable to give us excellent transfers of the films on Blu ray, I won't even think of buying a Blu ray player. Or one of these tampered "classics" on Blu ray for that matter.

I wonder if they will get things right with Snowwhite. Are they going to separate all the words, instruments, chorus parts, sounds, lines again?
And turn this one into a different film as well?
I'm not too comfortable about this, looking at the 2 previous travesty's.

So I'm REALLY happy with my dvd's.
The dvd's you own already had their audio remixed from mono into 5.1, since you didn't notice anything on those I assume they were fine. I also thought you couldn't even see the difference between a dvd and a Blu-Ray? So why bother to upgrade anyway?

And Wonderlicious, we in Europe got Pinocchio earlier than you guys in the US, even on Blu-Ray.

Regardless of which format you prefer, why would *anyone* "like" a 'plan' by a big corporation to bully ordinary people into buying things they need nor want?
CampbellzSoup wrote::lol: it comes WITH the freaking DVD.
That 'argument' has already been destroyed to pieces a thousand times. It's only the first DVD, it's not the 2-disc DVD, and people have to pay more to get something they won't use.
Flanger-Hanger wrote:Like the did in 2001 with the DVD release arriving 7 weeks before the VHS.
It's not the same! How many more times do we have to spell it out for the corporations' cheerleaders? BluRay to DVD is *not* in any way, shape or form the same as DVD was to VHS.
TheSequelOfDisney wrote:I really don't see what the big deal is about this. Disney isn't forcing anyone to move on to Blu-ray. With SW they just want the general public to know that they can get so much more with this new technology and that SW would be the perfect oppourtunity to go to the next level.
Except they can't and there is no 'next level'. It's a marketing ploy, and parrots like you are only helping to spread the propaganda

Why no Amazon Pre-Order for Snow White as yet?

Post by Deco King »

I cannot comprehend , why , despite the USA Today announcement , tat there has been no official Snow White Press Release from Disney Pictures , and since it is publically accepted that Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs is due out October 6th 2009 , there is STILL no acknowledgement via a Pre-Order "slot" on Amazon.com?

And how many times must people like you be told that I'm referring to a release strategy that's been used before and not why people upgrade to another format.

And what a preposterous argument is that anyway? A contemporary prospective applied to something that happened 8 years ago? What about the people back then who didn't want DVD? Were they at the time as annoyed as you are now? In all likelihood yes, but if you actually did some reading on widescreen.com from around that time you'd be surprised at how many people we not convinced DVD was all that better, whether or not you thought they were wrong then or now is entirely different, people still thought this way, but that didn't stop Disney from selling a million copies on a single day.

Remember it wasn't until 2003 that DVD became the norm. Regardless of what you think now, back then DVD was still in it's young years and early testing stages with Disney an other companies, not everyone had it but the release strategy happened anyway, and now it's happening with another format that has not become the norm (whether or not it will is another discussion) I'm saying NOW the RELEASE STRATEGY is the same and should come to no surprise to people with memories or the ability to do some research.

Blu Ray or DVD ??? No contest!!!

Post by Deco King »

If people on this website CANNOT see the difference between Sleeping Beauty on DVD and on Blu Ray then THEY NEED THEIR EYES TESTING!!!

Blu Ray is fabulous I just got my first Blu Ray player for £160.00 from Richer Sounds a chain of shops in the UK , and the picture quality is totally amazing nay stupendous make that F-A-B-L-U-L-O-U-S!!!

It's not like you have to go out and buy another player for the DVD's in your existing DVD collection not only do Blu Ray players show your existing DVD's they enhance the picture quality of all your collection!

Apparenlty Disney wants to push that, and to be honest I really only buy thier movies on Blu as they truly put that effort in making it great on all ends.
You don't really need surround sound, and a lot of new TVs are very cheap.

Wow, I can always count on the UDers to get into a good discussion. Just found out about the SW going to Blu-Ray. There's 32 pages in this thread for me to catch up on so I start here on page 32 and see you guys arguing about the merits of the entire format. What concerns me is that I decided this time to become an early adopter with the Blu-Ray, so I have not been sitting on the sidelines. Yet we have no player because my husband is not convinced that the format will survive this recession. I liked the idea that Disney was going to throw in the free DVD disc with the Blu-Ray (brilliant Marketing ploy, IMO) AND at a price point I could afford ($25). If they were willing to do that, I was willing to pay the extra cash for the Blu-Ray and worry about getting the player later. Of course I was COUNTING on the format and transfer to be remastered and offer superior high-def experience. I am trusting them. Now I come in here and see I've got things to worry about!

I'm going to have to seriously go back and read this thread. And why the heck is SW going to cost $40?! - In this economy?!

IT was announced before Sleeping Beauty's release. This, plus Fantasia/2000, and Beauty and the Beast in October next year.

Pluto Region1 wrote:And why the heck is SW going to cost $40?! - In this economy?!
It's not the economy. Even before the economy turned to sh!te Blu-Rays had SRP's of $35.99 or $39.99. Hell, back in DVD's infancy, their SRP's were $39.99 too! But over time, it gradually went down, as it will for Blu-Ray.

Anyway, glad to see you posting again, but you won't need to waste your time reading all 32 pages of this thread. The first ten alone is a compilation of past "When will Snow White be on DVD again?" threads as early as 2005 (many started by Deco King, who is unarguably the biggest SW fan at UD).
Pluto Region1 wrote:Of course I was COUNTING on the format and transfer to be remastered and offer superior high-def experience.
Don't worry, it will.

Whether or not it remains "true" to the original colors/audio mix, well that's always up for debate. And it's a debate that gets pretty ugly and eventually turns to a lot of hot air from both sides, so it's easier (and wiser) to simply stay out of it and just enjoy the movie as you have on previous home video formats.

I don't know why, after reading the last 5 pages, I realize I sound like a ninny here on page 32! But 10 Dancing elephants - its worth making a fool out of myself to get this ovation. :) :) :) I said to myself, "I wonder if Escapay is still around?" Thanks for the kind welcome. :float: Glad to see you're here and glad to be back.

Yes after going back to page 1, I realized I posted too hastily. Only the last 3 or 4 pages are important to the current discussion. I see if I want to worry about the quality of the transfers/restoration, I need to go read the Pinocchio blu-ray "catastrophe" thread.

I saw you about 4 pages back and you took the words right out of my mouth. We've been waiting for it to be released for 7-8 years - what's a few more months? As others here have already argued, its just their marketing strategy. They've got a lot invested in converting us to the new format, with the objective being to get us to adopt so they can resell their entire catalog to us. The delayed release of the DVD is just a minor nudge to get people to Blu-Ray. I don't really see anything wrong with that. But I wonder if that means they will spend precious marketing money to market its release twice

I am so used to seeing the $25 sticker price on Disney Blu-Rays, I had forgotten its actually the "discount" price.

Yep, I never did get around to reading the thread on the Cinderella release and the big discussion about the quality of the transfer. Still haven't cracked open that DVD yet! I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but what about the Disney Treasures series? I mean, if Disney wants us to be adopting Blu-Rays - those of us doing so won't want to be buying the Treasures series on DVD.... Then again, the future of WDT series has been in jeopardy for some time now. I doubt we'll ever see them repeat that series on Blu-Ray. (but I guess I should save that for the Treasures threads!)

I heard that Snow White on Dvd will be coming 7 weeks late

Post by Flower's Friend »

This is where I heard this.
http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=2559

I read that the new Snow White Dvd will come out 7 weeks late so the Snow White Blu-ray will come out 7 weeks early. At first I thought it might be the Blu-ray would come out 7 weeks before October 7th.

What do some of you think about this? I don't usually like to give opinion about this kind of stuff, so I will just say that I don't know about pushing the Dvd back 7 whole weeks. Maybe if they want they could just have the Blu-ray come out like one week early like September 30th and then have the Dvd come out on October 7th.

I don't want to give an opinion on this whole Dvd coming out 7 weeks late and all that. I just want to say that I was kinda surprised by this. Disney has been saying over and over again that the new Snow White edition is coming out on October 7th and now I hear that the Blu-ray is coming out on October the 7th and the Dvd is coming out 7 weeks after October the 7th.

Maybe Disney never did come out and actually say that both the Snow White Blu-ray and Dvd is coming out on October 7. But Disney has said many times that the new Snow White edition is coming out on October 7th and that would make many people believe that both the Blu-ray and Dvd is coming out on October the 7th. So some people might think that this is false advertizing.

I think this is fantastic. What a bold move by Disney. My family just saw The Adventures of Robin Hood on Blu-Ray last night, and we were all amazed at the video quality. This is a film from 1938, and it was a joy, as was seeing all the new detail in Rabbit Hood and Robin Hood Daffy - you can see the paper texture of the background paintings.

By the way, the DVD of the disc IS coming October 6th, but for people still hanging on to 20th century formats designed for TV standards set in the 80's, you'll have to wait 7 weeks to get the 2nd disc.

Yeah Pluto when Snow White comes out it will only be around the $25.00 range but I can bet you know that retailers ALWAYS have great deals on Blu Ray the week of the release so keep an eye out!

I got Bolt for $15.00 on Blu, and Pinnochio for 21.00 so just keep an eye out for deals!
