WDW Virgin Megastore to close :(

Post by David S. »

According to this article, the entire chain of Virgin Megastores will be closing, including the one at Downtown Disney at WDW.

Disney has listed May 31 as the last day for their Virgin. (That date is not listed in the article, but I read it somewhere else).

Here is the link: http://www.thewrap.com/article/1648
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney

I think I've only bought anything at the Downtown Disney Virgin Megastore once, and that was when I was on vacation here before I moved to Orlando. I'm excited to see what kind of sales they'll have closer to the closing date, though! :)

Wait, they're ALL closing? I like the one in Hollywood. It's the only one that I know of left. They're prices can be high, but they have great sales and discounts.... and they always have hard to find stuff. :(

My question doesn't actually deal with Virgin Megastore, but it does deal with merchandise at WDW; I didn't want to start a new thread for this small question!

Does anyone know if WDW stores get DVDs and CDs on their release dates? My birthday is 2 days after the release day of Bolt, Lilo & Stitch, and the Hannah Montana Movie soundtrack, and I'd like to use my Birthday Fun Card to buy them, but I've noticed in the past that they don't always seem to have certain releases.

Do any of you know if Disney will have those on Thursday? Would the World of Disney be my best bet? Thanks! :)

In my experience, yes.

I remember buying Pocahontas: 10th Anniversary Edition and National Treasure the day they came out, as I bought both at Magic Kingdom (I think at either Fantasy Faire or at the Emporium) after my shift that day. I probably could've gotten them cheaper at Wal-Mart, but the CM discount made up for it anyway (though they still were likely a dollar or two more).

As for Virgin Megastore closing, well, I'm disappointed in that news. I bought the majority of my DVDs there during my CP times (yeah, even with their prices) and loved the huge selection that they had. I probably wasted more time and money in that one store than I did any other in the whole of Downtown Disney, and could spend hours just browsing around (as Rachael or Emily could attest!)

I'm gonna miss that store, and now wonder what Disney will do with such a huge space at West Side.

Despite the small fortune I spent there last May? That's a shame...

Virgin Megastore and AMC IMAX theater update
Apr 06, 2009

Since yesterday's news about the possibility of AMC IMAX taking over the soon-to-close Virgin Megastore , we now have information to suggest that it's more likely for AMC to retrofit the IMAX into a couple of it's existing theaters in the current building. As always, things are likely change.
