Dream PE line

Post by tlc38tlc38 »

If you could choose what titles would be in the PE line, which ones would you choose?

Here's my list of 18 titles (I would add four more):

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
2. Pinocchio
3. Dumbo
4. Fantasia
5. Bambi
6. Cinderella
7. Alice in Wonderland
8. Peter Pan
9. Lady and the Tramp
10. Sleeping Beauty
11. 101 Dalmatians
12. The Jungle Book
13. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
14. The Little Mermaid
15. Beauty and the Beast
16. Aladdin
17. The Lion King
18. Pocahontas

I think all of the canon should be released with the same treatment.

I've always imagined a 21-title "Disney Diamond Collection" that would give you an awesome crown shaped display if you bought them all. Lame I know... but it would be interesting.

The Titles would be:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
101 Dalmatians
The Jungle Book
The Rescuers
The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King
Pocahontas
Tarzan
The Emperor's New Groove
Lilo & Stitch

They are not even my favourite DACs, they are just the most prolific. But more-so I'd like to see all of them treated the same way.

I totally agree with you but that'll never happen.

If I were to just pick my favorite Disney films, for great treatment, it'd be:

The Little Mermaid
Pinocchio
Cinderella
Hercules
Mulan
101 Dalmatians
Lady and the Tramp
The Sword in the Stone
Treasure Planet
The Lion King

But if I were going by what I think are the most iconic/remembered Disney films (good or not), it would be:

The Little Mermaid
Pinocchio
Cinderella
101 Dalmatians
Dumbo
Peter Pan
Alice In Wonderland
Aladdin
The Lion King
Lady and the Tramp
Snow White
Bambi
The Jungle Book
The Fox and the Hound
Beauty and the Beast

Coming to a nicer 15 (I always though it was weird they had 14). To me, Fantasia and Sleeping Beauty aren't really remembered as well as the others. Not that I don't like them. Also, The Fox and the Hound is really well-liked where I am, so that one might be a bit controversial.

In my opinion, the Platinum line should just contain films Walt Disney himself had taken part in. That would make it special.
Snow White
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Dumbo
Bambi
Cinderella
Alice in Wonderland
Peter Pan
Lady and the Tramp
Sleeping Beauty
One Hundred and One Dalmatians
The Sword in the Stone
The Jungle Book

Then have another line called Silver or Diamond for the movies he wasn't involved in.

Isnt there already a thread like this?

anyhow, I'd split up the releases by their respective eras... but each line would be equally important.

I personally want the Platinum Editions to end. I would really like for there to be a new collection to start. I came up with this idea for a "Disney's Icon Collection" These would be two disc tins with a subsequent single disc release as well. I would also include more titles than the Platinum line.

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
2. Pinocchio
3. Fantasia/2000 (special 3-disc set)
4. Dumbo
5. Bambi
6. Cinderella
7. Alice in Wonderland
8. Peter Pan
9. Lady and the Tramp
10. Sleeping Beauty
11. 101 Dalmatians
12. The Jungle Book
13. The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
14. The Little Mermaid
15. Beauty and the Beast
16. Aladdin
17. The Lion King
18. Pocahontas
19. Mulan
20. Tarzan
21. Lilo & Stitch

I based it of a 3 a year release period over 7 years. They're also what i feel have some of the most popular characters.

Throw in Hunchback and Herc, and you've got yourself a deal!

* Pocahontas

* Hunchback Notre Dame (lol in 2012)

* Mulan

* Tarzan

* Emperor's New Groove

I would add those five in and take out Fantasia (it could have its own special release) I know The Sword in the Stone is an odd choice to throw in but it's one of my favorites so I put it in there ;)

I would keep the current canon, but expand by alot.

Black Cauldron

Pocahontas

Aladdin

Hunchback of Notre Dame

Hercules

Dumbo

Pooh

Oliver & Company

Emperor's New Groove

Atlantis

Tarzan

A full list of 25 with 4 equals about 6 years. Make it about 3 per year, and you get roughly 8 years. About the same time it's taken for this current line, with the last year having 4 titles released.

Am I the only one who thinks "Platinum" as the title for Disney's definitive line of DVD releases is just kinda... tacky? "Gold" wasn't much better, sure, but at least it really means something to almost everyone. It has a rich history. Platinum is like some dork at the Olympics, only a .5 step up from Bronze (I'm talking in terms of the sound of its' achievement)... And getting a Bronze honor sounds like you're being put out to pasture. I think Disney should have kept up the Masterpiece Edition title. The only conceivable drawback there is that they gave anything a "Masterpiece" heading on VHS and they've never honored Mary Poppins with the same title since its' 1998 DVD debut. So in my line, Masterpiece and Platinum would switch places. When someone brought this up in a previous topic, I listed off a lot of movies in package-form, boxsets. Those were my line were I like Anchor Bay putting out standard editions and no access to Vault materials and the like.

My Definitive Disney animated DVD-line (and like Criterion Collection / 20th Century Fox's Collector's Editions, there would be a # somewhere on the packaging to indicate it's part of a collection)

Qualifications
Limited Edition - No bonus features, no THX-remastering, non-Collector oriented. Format is designed for mass audiences. Discs consist of movie in "Okay" to "Good" remastered form and feature Sneak Peaks, Register Your DVD, Disney Channel / House of Mouse Music Video cover-versions of classic songs for Kids, and Games only.
Classic Edition - Slightly more targeted toward the Collector. Remastering is better than on Limited Editions. Bonus features include first original trailers on all films, at least 2 bonus cartoons per disc, no pandering new-Disney Channel Kids' content for anyone.
Gold Edition - Basically a 2nd wave of the Limited Editions. Only, THX-quality remastering. Absolutely no bonus features, no even for kids. Basically, this line is the same as Superbit only for Disney. Like the Limited Editions, these are targeted more at mass audiences who might want the movie-only. All titles will be re-released later on.
Platinum Edition
Masterpiece Edition - The Ultimate Definitive Disney DVD experience.
Sapphire Collection - Blu-Ray

What I would ADD to the Platinum line:

-Hunchback of Notre Dame (With a decent, SERIOUS documentary, not the crap one with Jason Alexander)
-Hercules
-Mulan
-Alice In Wonderland
-Sword In The Stone
-Tarzan
-Oliver and Company
-Pocahontas

Lazario, you do realise Platinum is one of the most valuble metals there is ? If you were picking it out of gold, silver, or bronze ..... platinum has the most worth ?

So it would make sense for Disney, if they have started with Gold, to have their most important releases as a 'Platinum Edition'.
