I'm not going to be able to get my copy until tomorrow. This will be the first time that I haven't bought the Platinum Edition the day it came out and watched all the bonus features that day since Bambi in 2005. It's always been my tradition, and I love doing it. However, today I am in Chicago for my spring break and don't come home until tomorrow. There really isn't anywhere close for me to run out and get it, and on top of that, that's not really how I want to spend my last day in the city with my friends. But, I will be picking it up tomorrow night and having a late night with the film.

Is there disc art on the DVD release? An insert?

Here's the track list for the bonus cd from Target.

1. Give a Little Whistle: cliff Edwards and Dickie Jones
2. Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee: Walter Catlett
3. I've Got No Strings: Dickie Jones
4. Friend Like Me: Craig Toungate
5. Proud of Your Boy: Scott Krippel
6. True To Your Heart: Raven-Symone
7. When You Wish Upon a Star: Craig Toungate

I think it's nice that they included Proud of Your Boy, a song that was written for Aladdin by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The song was cut from the movie, and stories tell that Howard Ashman was extremely disappointed by the cut because he felt a personal connection to the song and his relationship with his own mother. Now the song will get some more exposure.

I know I said I wasn't gonna run out to the store right away to get it, but I did.

Simply because I don't have my own car, and I drive my mom's minivan - and usually I only get to use it on Saturdays. But today she let me run errands so I swung by Target. I paid $16.99 plus tax.

Now, that CD, wtf man? That's just crappy covers, just wasted space IMO! I thought it was like a cut-down OST when it was advertised at Target.

The DVD proper isn't bad, though I was cracking up at the anti-smoking ad... Here I was worried they'd censor the smoking out like they did with so many other DACs, it's only natural they try to persuade youths yet again with that crappy advertisement. Just watching parts of the movie by themselves (I didn't sit down and watch the full thing, I've *seen* Pinocchio before!), it looks OK. I suppose it looks different than the other DVDs, but it's not like I went "holy crap, why's it look so bad?"

And kudos to Disney for keeping the RKO bumper intact. I know they plastered it with quite a few of their prior releases (including the old R1 of Pinocchio!)

I didn't watch the extras yet, either. But overall, not a bad release. (The DVD, at least)

But what's up with the locking case?! Here I thought Disney stopped using those when Sleeping Beauty didn't have them but they're back again! Those things annoy me to no end, I suppose if I can find a 2-disc case that doesn't lock I'll move it over to that.
And yay, 200 DMR points instead of 100!

Howard Ashman:
He gave a mermaid her voice, a beast his soul, and Arabs something to complain about
Arabian Nights (Unedited)
Savages (Uncensored)
If it ain't OTV, it ain't worth anything!

Picked mine up today from Moviestop. If you reserved it ahead of time it was $15.87. Since I traded in some old movies it cost me nothing. I also went there about a month ago and purchased MINT copies of "Mickey Mouse in Black and White" and "Mickey Mouse in Living Color (Volume 1)" for $15 each.

Anyway, I started watching the making of documentary and it was good (My son wanted to watch Steamboat Willie so I stopped the doc). They devoted a lot of time to The 9 Old Men and how this was like their rise to fame.

BTW I thought there was a virtual Pleasure Island tour on the DVD? I can't seem to find it and I thought I saw it advertised on the Disney Channel???

It's not really a virtual tour, and it's only on the Blu-ray.

Haha. I like your moviestop. Mine has had the same newer treasures there for as long as I can remember. Never a hint of older ones ever being there. I guess that means there's hope for mine yet.

I guess on the whole I was still hoping for more special features. The documentaries are pretty solid, but surely there's additional material that could be here as well. Even demos of the other deleted songs, really...

But I do have to say whoever is voicing Jiminy Cricket on the DVD game is a pretty good soundalike.

I saw the plush Jimminy Cricket at Walmart today, and I don't think anyone who is interested will be disappointed. It is about the size of a Beanie Baby (or maybe slightly larger with it's long appendages), and it looks like a quality item. I was rather impressed.

The 'Making of' was too promotional, for my taste. Of course I don't expect Disney to criticize its own products, and previous 'Making of'-s have been heavy on the praising part, too, but this one was a bit too much. Especially since it features some very brief remarks by Michael Barrier praising this film, yet he is critical of certain aspects of the film when it comes to drafmanship in his book 'Hollywood Cartoons: American Animation in its Golden Age'. I'm sure he voiced that criticsm, but Disney just cut that out. Barrier thought Stromboli wasn't an effective enough villain, because Bill Tytla made him too spastic, which gave him more of a comedic than a threatning effect. Barrier also described in his book how Walt Disney was largely absent from the film, devoting most of his time to Fantasia, which was his favorite project. None of this is reflected in the 'Making of', though.

I am glad they at least paid attention to some of the studio's pioneering animators, who are often overlooked in favor of the 'Nine Old Men'. Talking about Fred Moore, Bill Tytla and Art Babbit here. I was a bit upset they gave Frank Thomas all the honor for the scene in Snow White when the dwarfs are mourning her, when it was Tytla who was the head animator for that sequence. (They did this on the Cinderella DVD.)

I was also surprised to see 'John Bradbury' turn up on the credits of the film, as one of the animators. Jack Bradbury left the studio in the 1940's and became a famous artist of Disney comic strips. His stories are still being published in Dutch Disney comic magazines. Multiple generations have grown up with his comics.

Yeah my son is young and he likes the Steamboat Willie cartoon specifically as well as the older Mickey and Pluto cartoons.

Moviestop has been a godsend for me. I love being able to get the lowest price on DVDs there as well as being able to find gems that people no longer want. I also found Transformers: Season 1 and Season 3 Part 1 there for $17.99 each with their lithograpghs included!! :o :o

Back to Pinocchio, I never knew that this was originally episodic, although it makes sense now. I'm really enjoying this DVD and am looking forward to the Snow White release. I'll probably go to Downtown Disney to reserve it. I know I'll probably pay more but I remember when Pirates 3 came out they had all kinds of stuff for those who reserved the movie ahead of time. I think I remember reading on Jim Hill Media how the line started at midnight or something and the store didn't open until 6. I'm hoping since this is the crown jewel of the Disney collection they do something special.......

I got the Blu Ray @ Target. It doesn't come with the Music CD. Now that I see what was on the CD, glad I didn't get the DVD only version.

That plush looks cool, but I'm going to WDW in 2 months.....
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I got the Blu-pray a couple hours ago, and am about to enjoy it. I should post every step towards the start of the film for dramatic effect.

Just watched the Blu-ray and had the Disney View feature on...
Must admit, I hated it...
It was really annoying and while it blended well with some scenes,
Others did not look that great at all and were kind of distracting
In the future I'll just stick with the black bars.

Also, I've always loved Pinocchio,
I think it was the first Disney film I ever really fell in love with.
But I noticed something tonight
That I've never really paid attention to before.

There are SO MANY villains in the film.
I can't think of any other Disney film that has so many villains.
1. Honest John
2. Gideon
3. Stromboli
4. The Coachman
5. Monstro

I realize that a lot of Disney films sort of have the villain
And then a few sidekicks to the villain
101 Dalmatians, The Lion King, Beauty And The Beast to name a few
But for some reason the villains of Pinocchio
Don't seem to blend as well as the others
It doesn't make the film any less enjoyable
It's just something I've never really noticed before now.
