Ghibli film Ocean Waves (Umi ga Kikoeru) licenced in Europe

Separately, Wild Bunch has been offering television and DVD release rights to Tomomi Mochizuki's Umi ga Kikoeru (Ocean Waves), one of the few Studio Ghibli projects that were not directed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata. Optimum Releasing will be bringing the 1993 work out in the United Kingdom, while Telepool has the rights for the German market. Ocean Films bought the rights for the French-language release, and Spain's Aurum has that country's. In Sweden, Norway, and Finland, the DVD will come from NonStop Entertainment.
Pretty good that this is getting a release, it's meant to be like Whisper of the Heart so it should be pretty good. I'll pick it up to add to my Ghibli collection.

The german edition will be released on 04/17/09. Unfortunately as one of the first Digipacks with the new german rating logo. Not as bad as the australian one though...

I really hope this gets a UK release, my DVD player is unlocked and region free so I could import it Amazon UK. I already have bought "Only Yesterday" and "Horus:Prince of the Sun." (despite it's awful title of "Little Norse Prince") I've played around with the idea of getting "Tales From Earthsea' but I'll wait for the North American release some time this year. They also seem to sell DVD's for a lot cheaper even with the exchange and shipping. Satoshi Kon films and a lot of other good Anime films sell for 4-5 quid.

I have a bootlegged version of "Ocean Waves" from China that is pretty good quality (came with "On Your Mark" on the disc as well!) but I would love an official release.
