Mary Poppins 40th Aniversary Special Edition dvd
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/
In case anyone hasn't seen, here is the new, tentative cover art for Mary Poppins. I personally don't really like the cover art, but oh well, I'm still really anticipating the dvd. Does anyone know what kind of bonus features will be on it? I don't remember it receiving a press release.

I don't really like the cover at all. I hope they change it to something else better.Mermaid Kelly wrote:http://ultimatedisney.com/images/mp40.jpg

The silver framish part reminds of some of the DVD-fan cover art I've seen. It's interesting and different, but I prefer the Gold Collection cover art better. The good thing is that its not screaming the special features as an attempt to sell to families (e.g. Virtual tea parties and safaris and new musical numbers are not advertised, thank goodness. Imagine if they provided a Virtual Tea Party on the Ceiling or Virtual Merry-go-round ride or a Virtual Journey through Chimneys!)Grunches wrote:I don't really like the cover at all. You work for Disney DVD don't you....
I actually don't mind the cover art. I like the simplicity of the design, which both appeal to the collector/fan and the casual buyer. I don't think it is "dumbing the film down" at all. Anyhoo, I kind of like it!
But I echo the comments that are more interested in the special features than the cover. I don't own a copy of the original release, despite it being dirt cheap here at the moment. I really anticipate the re-release simply so I can own it on DVD (I have it on VHS - hopefully the doco on that will be on the DVD, as it was quite substantial from memory).

actually it is a cool cover, very mature and artsy, and of the best disney dvd covers in R1 (since I don´t like the disney dvd cover designs too much), the only thing that doesn´t make so happy is the logo, but well....I wonder if that Mary Poppins silouette is has been cut from the paper or not, that would be soooooooooo cool

I was wondering the same thing.PheR wrote:I wonder if that Mary Poppins silouette is has been cut from the paper or not, that would be soooooooooo cool
From what I can make out it SEEMS to be that. And then you probably "open it like a book" (catchphrase!) and reveal some interior artwork/photo.
Should be pretty cool.
Shows a shift in direction to me. As you put it nicely - a mature looking package, which makes me hopeful for the future of Disney DVD.

It's very similar to the UK Mary Poppins stage play poster. In fact it may be the same (it's been a few weeks since I've seen it).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
At a first look it does seem a little drab compared to more recent, colorful Disney DVD covers, but I really like it. I agree that it looks classy and more grown up. That would be fantastic if the Mary silhouette really is a cut out window showing inside the book cover. That is such a small picture of it too, so I bet the larger version will look beautiful. If you look closely you can see that Mary and the others are riding the carousel horses on the silver part of the cover. That London skyline Ellenshaw art with the deep blues above are gorgeous.
I can't wait!!!
Thanks for posting that preview, Luke.

"She sailed out of the Disney-blue heavens, umbrella in hand, and promptly elicited every gorgeous adjective in the book from reviewers coast to coast."
I like it. It's a bit more abstract - what with the silhouettes and everything. It's not so cutesy and "in your face."
It does have a resemblence to the musical's poster; I found a pic here - http://www.londonbreaks.com/marypoppins.html - a bit faded on the edges, but hey.

That's one of the posters. I've seen one with the same outline but without the flowers, and a bit of "bussiness" in the background.Paka wrote:I like it. It's a bit more abstract - what with the silhouettes and everything. It's not so cutesy and "in your face."

Come to think of it, that was a newspaper advert though, not the poster as such.

I am so excited right now, after seeing this tentative cover art for the 2dvd set. I am glad that it'll be released "later this year" rather than "next year".
That is the good news of the day for me. The good news yesterday is that I got tickets to see Madonna in concert in June (hehe)
Take care, guys and Feed the Birds
