Television Show Recommendations

I'm bumping this because I realized I never added my reccomendations.

Friends - I know this is really a hit-or-miss show, but I personally adore it. Phoebe Buffay is definitely my favorite character. Her whimsical and quirky personality really defines the show. I truly reccomend it to anyone and everyone.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Well, what can I say? Joss Whedon. Sarah Michelle Gellar. Alyson Hannigan. Eliza Dushku. Plus the hundred other actors and crew that contribute to this amazing show. It's funny, romantic, thrilling, horrifying, depressing...everything a great show should be and more.

Angel - The spin-off to Buffy the Vampire Slayer was/is one of the only spin-offs to compete with its precedor. Angel, the vampire with a soul, Cordelia Chase, the bitchy teen queen of Sunnydale High, and Wesley, the Watcher that let Faith escape, team up to form Angel Investigations. Along with Doyle (Who only appeared in ten episodes), Charles "Gunn", and Winni"Fred", and later Spike, this show is really about its characters.

How I Met Your Mother - What can you expect when you team up Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris, Bob Saget, and the TV newcomers Cobie Smulders, Jason Segal, and Ted Moseby (Actor's name is escaping me now.) From Swarley to Robin Sparkles to The Bro Code, this show has it all. It's replacing what Friends used to be for me: A hilarious, touching television show.

Heroes - The first season was amazing, while the second season (From what I've seen so far) is lacking a bit. But Kristen Bell is in Season Two, so it has to be at least decent. Anyway, this show is pretty much a televised X-Men, except the characters aren't that close, save for a few.

One Tree Hill - One Tree Hill IS a teen drama. That said, it's the best damn Teen Drama I've ever seen. It has a lot of heart, with each episode bearing drama, humor, romance, and suspense perfectly.

Veronica Mars - Kristen Bell competes with Sarah Michelle Gellar for the ablity to carry a show by herself. She's an amazing actress, and this show deserved WAY more than three seasons. At least the movie is coming out soon.

Pushing Daisies - A very light-hearted show that carries itself easily. It was recentley cancelled, as is the case with most of Bryan Fuller's shows (Wonderfalls/Dead Like Me.) Kristin Chenoweth was HILARIOUS as Olive Snook.

First of all, Heroes has been canceled,so there is no fourth season, unless you are counting the first half of season three and then the break and now the rest of the season you are counting as four. The show has plummeted in ratings, and along with "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Knight Rider" has seen its day on television.


I know this is really an age thing, so pardon me, but I will tell you that I avoid anything that comes out of the Disney factory these days. The Disney Channel is just one great big commercial for nothing. The shows they try to pawn off on us are useless, terribly acted, horribly scripted, and are just spaces between the commercials.

The only new show I ever watch on Disney, and they haven't run a new episode in a while, is "Phineas and Ferb", which I like because of its concept and very funny situations.

I could never get into Dr. Who, so I won't say anything about this show, except that I can't see what all the fuss is about. There are a lot better shows about the same subject matter that are NOT British. Maybe it is just because I don't understand some British humor. I do enjoy Monty Python immensely.

Current television shows that I watch and enjoy include:

Cable TV shows that I never miss, thanks to my DVR, include:

Dexter (Season Three is over, we are awaiting Season Four)
In Plain Sight (Season Two starts April 19th)
Leverage (First season just ended, it will return for number two)
Burn Notice (Second season just ended, will return for season three in June)
The First 48

there are some older shows that I watch, and I collect a lot of TV shows on DVD to watch when there is nothing else on or during summer when there is basically nothing but reruns.

Heroes is getting better, but its not near its Season 1 greatness. The show has been hit and miss this season. Sometimes its great, then its just a mess. I hope they get back on track for Season 4.

I have read that Knight Rider is getting canceled, and I'm not real surprised. However the episodes after the KARR episode did get better. I think if the show had that focus in the beginning and a little more promotion it could have done better.

NBC still has some good shows though. I've really enjoyed Chuck and Friday Night Lights lately.

Yeah, Bill, Heroes has been renewed. It may not be in its prime, but it is still doing better in ratings than half of the other shows out there.

We will see when it comes back, if it comes back. Heroes has been very flat this year, and I lost interest in it early on. I have seen articles all over the place that it has been canceled and then articles that it has been picked up, and other articles that say it hasn't been totally decided to bring it back for a fourth season. Don't quite know what to make of it, but since I am not a regular viewer anymore, I could care less.

I can't think of any show on NBC that I watch regularly except The Office and Saturday Night Live.

I highly recommend Cheers, all 11 seasons are available on DVD (I don't know if any channel still airs Cheers) and Frasier (the Spin-off of Cheers) is one of the greatest shows ever, and they still show it on Lifetime every morning (except weekends I think lol).

Currently I'm watching famous, much praised tv shows on DVD that I've managed to miss for the last 10 years. (I'm not good at following shows on tv, I always miss the first one or two and then I won't be able to follow the story-line.) Anyway, these shows have all ended, but are worth checking out on DVD:

Either way, there are still new episodes of Heroes every Monday, so it's officially cancelled yet.

I don't know if it's already on TV in Holland, but "How I met your mother" is a great sitcom!! Watch it, if you can.

I saw two episodes of this comedy series, but I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea. To me it seems it is trying to hard to be funny.
Funny though, one of the characters reminded me of 'Niles Crane' (David Hide Pierce) - in appearance, not in behaviour! - as if he is some younger version of the latter.

Did you watch it in English or dubbed? I don't know how good the Dutch dubbing is, but here in Germany the dubbed version of HIMYM is close to being unwatchable since so many subtle and intelligent jokes can't be translated and only the obvious comedy remains.

But I can totally understand if it isn't your cup of tea. I never liked Friends one bit and just don't get why everybody likes that show so much.

Please for the love of everything that is good watch Better off Ted at 8:30 tonight on ABC (then stick around for an all new Lost. The show has totally recaptured the season one magic)!
