Perhaps Sony was making a nod to the trendy, "hipness" of it being "kewl" to shorten and misspell words when naming their product, but in any case, if people like me and Goliath are guilty of mispelling anything, it is of mispelling someone else's incorect spelling
Is Disney Done with DVD? (The Never Ending Blu-Ray Debate)
Well, I don't deliberately spell it "wrong". I am used to spelling "Blue" the correct way, which is b-l-u-e. Since spell check is not going to catch this, it is only understandable that there will be times blue ray will get spelled with an "e".

I agree. There's absolutely no reason for them to eliminate DVD review copies when it still is the dominate format by a long run. It's a premature move.David S. wrote:Try this link:

Personally, I think this stinks and hope it won't effect UDs ability to provide the great coverage of their DVD reviews like we are used to.
And again, there's a DVD copy of the film included.The_Iceflash wrote:I agree. There's absolutely no reason for them to eliminate DVD review copies when it still is the dominate format by a long run. It's a premature move.
And it's hardly a premature move. And is being done for a number of reasons.

Why do you think you are entitled to a Review copy anyway? Those are supposed to be for legitimate movie review people who work in the industry. Why not just wait until Tuesday and buy your own copy like the rest of us.

Seems like the lady is just too cheap to buy her own copy.
So I'm not shedding any tears over the fact that she's gotta go buy one.

Thanks goofystitch for the information. Although I didn't understand one bit. I just know what looks good, and I wouldn't know bits from apples, so I will just go with all of my animated movies in SD DVD and save my money for the sweeping movies like "Australia", "The Wizard of Oz", and "Gone With The Wind", which by the way, "Oz" and "Wind" come to Blu-Ray May, 2009.

Geez, I don't want a review copy! I am buying this. I want people who REVIEW DVDs for us, their readers, to be able to get their review copy.dvdjunkie wrote:Why do you think you are entitled to a Review copy anyway? And it is IRRELEVANT if "Disc 1" of the DVD is included with the Blue Ray, as the person who wrote the article, and DarthPrime, pointed out. Without Disc 2, they won't be able to review the Bonus Features for their readers.

How else would they be able to review the films in the highest quality possible.
May as well complain that Disney doesn't supply VHS, Laserdisc, or BetaMax screeners.

Blue Ray may be "the future", but whether you like it or not, DVD is still the DOMINANT format and therefore THE NOW. And therefore it is unacceptable if reviewers are not able to review the format that the majority of their readers want to purchase!

This is completely different. DVD is still in production, and its the main format, unlike VHS, Laserdisc, and Beta. DVDs should still be reviewed since most purchases are DVDs and not Blu-rays. Yes Blu-ray is selling, but omitting the main format right now is a really horrible move by Disney. I know they are pushing heavy for Blu-ray to take over, and it probably will sometime. Anyway DVDs are different than Blu-rays so really both should be reviewed, not just the Blu-ray.Beast wrote:Most professional reviewers should have Blu-Ray players.David S. wrote:Geez, I don't want a review copy! I'm on the reviewer's side. DVD is by far the dominant format & I don't like a company trying to shove a blu ray down my throat by not allowing me to get a review IN ADVANCE of its release date. Its like not making a movie available ahead of time to movie reviewers (although that is usually done for a different reason, because the movie stinks and they want to get a good opening weekend before reviews and word of mouth lets everyone know it's a POS). Why wouldn't you want people to be able to make an informed decision on the day a dvd is released? Especially since it still outsells blu ray substantially.

DVD is a dying format. Blu-Ray is the emerging one.
I applaud Disney for being one of the major players in growing the format.
Again, most Professional Reviewers are already going to have the new format.
Anyone who cares about the best quality presentation is already going to have the new format.
It's just the same people who stomped their feet when VHS died who're doing it again now.

I have never seen any review that talks about the PQ and AQ of Extras.
So why should it matter if those extras are on a Blu-Ray disc for reviewers.
All they're going to do is tell you what the featurette is about.
WRONG! There is a difference. Those other formats are no longer being made, and DVD is STILL the dominant formant.Beast wrote:Yoda: "No, no different. Only different in your mind!"David S. wrote:That is hardly the same thing and you know it! Those are all obsolete or fringe formats.

In YOUR opinion, but that remains to be seen. People said the same thing about SACD killing off CD!DVD is a dying format. Blu-Ray is the emerging one.
DVD isn't dying, but some people in the industry sure are trying to kill it!
WRONG again! I embraced and welcomed DVD, and CD for audio, soon after both came out, so I'm not a "luddite".It's just the same people who stomped their feet when VHS died who're doing it again now.
The difference between DVD and VHS was HUGE to my eyes. I honestly don't notice much if any difference between Blue Ray and DVD.

I have 20/20 vision, smartass, and while I don't have a HDTV, the comparisons I made WERE on one, both at a friends house and in a store!Beast wrote:I'd honestly suggest a vision test then. On some titles I noticed a slight imporovement but had to LOOK for it, others looked exactly the same. Just as Drfsupercenter said in another thread!

I wished HD DVD won the format war, but I'm not crying because it lost, and I plan to buy Blu-ray this year (I'm waiting on some new players that have been shown off to arrive, and see how they do in reviews.). To me HD DVD was the better format. Still having only 1 HD format is better overall to the HD industry, and I'm glad we are down to 1. Both remaining would have ultimately hurt the formats.Beast wrote:Well. It's them and those crying cause they backed HD-DVD.The_Iceflash wrote:Are you serious?
Both of those are the minority as well. Many people who fully embraced DVD when it was release do not care for Blu-ray right now at all. The main reasons are its too expensive and DVD is good enough. When the prices come down, and disc prices are more in line with current DVD prices this will change. Still its going to be a hard sell for many unlike DVD.
This Blu-ray DVD stuff is really starting to get old. If this continues I really suggest to the people that are in charge of the site to create a separate Blu-ray and DVD forum for Disney discussion. I know its helped on other forums to cut down on this stuff.
