Disney shorts and Anime on Sale at Best Buy this month
Just got back from Best Buy, and they had two really great deals!
First, Disney short compilation DVDs like the Small World of Fun and starring titles, are all 5.99 right now, as well as the Quack Pack and Goof Troop DVDs.
Second, all Anime is 50 percent off!
I only had 30 bucks to spend myself since I want to get the new Wonder Woman on Blu-Ray Tuesday, so I only bought the complete collection of All Purpose Cat Girl Nuku Nuku and the Chip N Dale DVD. I hope to go back for Quack Pack and Goof Troop and the first volume of Small World of Fun (for grievance of a Star Maker), not to mention volumes 2 and 3 of the old Wonder Woman TV series since they are 16.99 this month. A lot to get though, and don't have much of an income right now, so here's hoping I can land it all (especially the way people take advantage of sales around here). I'd get more Anime if I had the cash... Anyway, just thought these deals were worth mentioning.

Well, not EVERY store will have anime half off. About 460 or so stores will have the half-off sale until the 21st, and after that they'll severly cut back on the anime selection, around 20 titles. About 500 or so well cut their selections down to about 100 titles, and the "top 200" will pretty much keep all they had beforehand, with a few titles missing.
Anyway, a few other Disney movies were on sale for $8, including Old Yeller, which I got for myself today. This isn't as big of a sale as the December one, but there are a few good titles you can find for a good price.
On an unrelated note, I noticed my Best Buy has 2 hard-to-find Treasures tins, The Mickey Mouse Club week 1 for $25, and Mickey in B&W volume 2 for $30. This really surprised me, and I nearly walked away with the MMC one, which is the one Treasure I've been looking for the most. I think if the Pinocchio Blu-Ray isn't available for a really good price for it's first week or if it doesn't come with an appealing bonus gift, I'll hold-off on that and splurge on the MMC set.

So, do you know why they're clearing half the Anime at some stores? Do they just want to make room or something? (Maybe for blu-ray to expand...)
I've got all the Disney Treasures, but I am still catching up with live-action. Their sales lately have really helped, but I have all the titles on sale this month (though I do need to get Leroy and Stitch, which is only 14.99 there right now).

I guess that Best Buy, like most other businesses, is taking a hit from the economy and have to cut back on what doesn't sell, and I'm guessing that anime isn't really a big ticket for the store. Cutting down to the handful of titles that do prove to sell well may seem annoying to hardcore fans, but when you think about it, these people are mostly in the minority and are just louder and more abrasive than their small following seem to prove.

I saw something similar at Walmart for the Disney titles. At least the Leroy and Stitch was at the same price, and I got 101 Dalmatians(LA) for 14.99.slave2moonlight wrote:So, do you know why they're clearing half the Anime at some stores? I wonder if I can find a copy of Kiki's Delivery Service at BB when I go to pick up Pinoke. That is the only one left, besides Princess Mononoke, that I really want on DVD.

I still need to replace My Neighbor Totoro (I gave my copy to my nieces,) and then I need to get My Neighbors the Yamadas, I refuse to buy that one without the slipcover, and everywhere that's had the slipcover wants $30 for it...TheSequelOfDisney wrote:I wonder if I can find a copy of Kiki's Delivery Service at BB when I go to pick up Pinoke. I only have four Miyazaki movies so far. I wonder if they are in the Anime section or with the Disney films... I forget. Anyways, I have Kiki (my fave), Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Castle in the Sky. Had them since Spirited Away came out, but I haven't even gotten around to watching Castle in the Sky yet. Hopefully I'll have the time soon. I do want to get more, but too much to buy as it is... And now I want to buy "Now You See Him, Now You Don't" because I just got the other two Dexter Riley flicks, but I can't find it anywhere now that I want it!

Nausicaa is really good, and while Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky aren't perfect, they're rather entertaining movies that you should also look up.
These, the two you've seen, and Princess Mononoke are all I've seen of Miyazaki's work, and the last one I mentioned aside, I really seem to enjoy his stuff.
