omg i'm so jealous he got to see animation of the prince and Dr. Facilier!!! Ugh, i just want to see pics of them... would it really spoil that much to post something online?

Other than that, the scene he describes sounds neat. I like that he was able to connect it to Sleeping Beauty and The Sword in the Stone. I hope that means it gives off a more classic disney vibe.

ugh...

Well I'll give him a chance that's all I can say, but Alan's score's were the soundtracks to my FAVORITE songs of Disney. I guess perhaps Newman can usher in a new sound...hey if it's good then I can't complaign.

Well, Like I said. Newman's a good composer. I'm not sure about this choice either, but sometimes, we gotta trust the filmmakers in their decisions.

Hopefully we do get some classic catchy songs from the movie...

wow I can't believe he was on the project he made some of my favorite Disney songs...yet I can't think of ONE Pixar song off the top of my head, although I don't think Pixar films aimed to be musicals...

But Gosh...I'd love to see Alan's take on the soundtrack...
Well, Randy Newman can't be a bad choice. He did write the songs for Toy Story.
Not to mention he did work on the score for Monsters, Inc. AND he worked on the movie's end credit song, If I Didn't Have you, along with the song "Our Town" from Cars. Oh, yeah! He also worked on the music for James and the Giant Peach. ;)

Newman was part of James and the Giant Peach? Then I'm not as worried. Not to say that movie was fantastic, but it was better than any Pixar soundtrack I've heard.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was revealed a while ago that there was at least one other 2D film (unnamed) in the works. So this news isn't exactly...new.

I'm not really sure if this has been posted yet. It seems like an older video, but I know I've never seen it and I don't think most of us here have. I found a video of Randy Newman performing the theme he's writen for the film. It's basically the full song to what we heard in the teaser. you can see him performing it at the link provided below.

Personally I really really really don't like Randy Newman's singing voice, I find him to be a awesome song writer, but he should let others sing his music more often. In the film though this might be sung by a character, so i feel that with some more orchestration and some nice vocals this song will be awesome. I kinda like it overall. I'm not sure if it particularly will be that memorable though. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

In the trailer, the singer doesn't sound like Randy, but I doubt it's character, either. Probably somebody else.

I second that motion.
I really dont enjoy Newman's voice and its totally inappropriate for a film of this style. I love his music (Cats dont dance for example has amazing music which he wrote but didnt sing), but I cant stand his voice in all the Pixar films (the novalty wore off after A Bugs Life).

That's also the last Pixar film where his voice could be heard :).

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... tures.aspx

I know that a number of Disney Marketing execs (who were already stressing about Fox's decision to move up "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakel" 's opening from March 19, 2010 to Christmas Day) began chugging Maalox late last week when they learned that Warner Bros. would be pushing back the release date of Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” from November 1st to December 25th...Which is why there's been talk of Mickey moving up "The Princess and the Frog" 's release date a few weeks. Which won't make Robert Zemeckis (i.e. the Academy Award winner behind ImageMovers Digital) happy. Given that his new performance capture picture for Disney, “A Christmas Carol” opens on November 6th.

I squealed with delight at the thought of TP&tF's release date moving up, but at the same time, I don't want the production rushed just to get the movie out early. The DVD will no doubt sell amazingly; I know that executives won't stop worrying about theatrical performance any time soon, and of course a Disney animated film should do very well at the theater, but especially with the way the economy is, many families are opting to not go to the theater and just rent or buy the DVD when it comes out. And, I know that this info is from Jim Hill, so take it with a grain of salt, yadda, yadda, yadda. :D

Hopefully it turns out to be true and PatF does get moved to November. December seems really crowded. Not to mention releasing it in November would be reminiscent of Disney's late '80s/early '90s release pattern. Thanks for the info, blackcauldron85!

Thanks for the info, Ames! After hearing about the new animation shown with Dr Facilier and Prince Naveen, my interest in the movie again is being stirred and makes me more excited for it. I hope the earlier date won't affect the production quality, but at the same time, I'm looking forward to hearing it might be released earlier.

I had a PatF dream last night :). I can't remember much about the movie itself, but the animation looked like Moses' dream sequence in "The Prince of Egypt" :headshake:.

I would mark out if Charlotte looks like David Gilson's concept, it's a very cute drawing so I hope that it is what she will look like or maybe she'll look even better. Do it Disney! Perhaps she won't be as pretty as Tiana though, they might not want to make her TOO appealing but this will probably be countered by her antagonism or personality a little bit. We are supposed to root for Tiana after all. :)

Will there be Charlotte toys? I know that she is a supporting character but it would be cool to see her doll alongside Tiana. It's cool that John Goodman will be playing her father but I thought he was going to be the alligator. Darn it Disney. The alligator better be a good character along with Charlotte and her dad. Hopefully it wasn't a casting mistake.

He might be the alligator in the Wizard of Oz twist.

Okay, sorry for going off topic, but I feel like sharing my knowledge of the Disney princesses so far.

Snow White: a princess, but reduced to chambermaid b/c the Queen didn't want her to be fairest in the land

Cinderella: a peasant girl, until she married the prince, becoming a princess

Aurora: a princess by birth, lived her life as a peasant, but unknowingly a princess

Maid Marian: a princess, or a maiden

Eilonwy: a princess, reduced to a scullery maid when captured by the Horned King when he thought her bauble could reveal the location of The Black Cauldron

Ariel: a princess throughout

Belle: a peasant girl, married the Beast/Prince Adam and became a princess

Jasmine: a princess throughout

Pocahontas: a Native american princess

Tiana: from what I know, starts out as a waitress, turning out to be a princess in the end

Just to let you know, this is probably my best knowledge on the princesses. If I left any out of the loop, please let me know.

Anyways, back on topic, I wanna see the concept art of Faciller so badly! Whoever saw the clip of the prince's transformation from this movie is SO lucky! :(

Disney Moves Up The Princess and the Frog
Source: Variety March 10, 2009

Walt Disney Pictures has moved up the release of Ron Clements and John Musker's traditionally-animated musical The Princess and the Frog. Originally scheduled for a Christmas Day bow, the film will now open in New York and Los Angeles on November 25th before expanding nationwide on December 11th.

In its old date, "Princess" would have gone up against 20th Century Fox's holiday family tentpole Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel.

The only other film scheduled to debut on December 11th is Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones.

The Princess and the Frog is voiced by Anika Noni Rose, John Goodman, Keith David, Jim Cummings and Jenifer Lewis.[/b]

Thanks for letting us know! Jim Hill was right! Since it's only a 2-week difference, hopefully production won't need to be rushed.
