Gone With The Wind

Post by Ric-Mx »

Does anyone know if GONE WITH THE WIND is getting a decent Collector's Edition (2 disc, not the nice very expensive box set at amazon) like Casablanca will get??? :?:

I haven't heard anything specific, but it seemed like a prime choice for deluxe treatment that Warner is now favoring for their classic titles. If I remember correctly, it's only got a trailer and some notes and it's spread over two sides. There's so much potential for extra content and a very large fanbase that I'd be shocked if it weren't given 2-disc treatment within the next couple of years.

But that's just my speculation.

I would completely agree...it's just a matter of time.
Maybe a 65th anniversary edition in 2004?

As posted in the Casablanca thread, contary to opinion, there is a restored Gone With The Wind available - in the UK at least. The restoration was carried out by Lowry Digital, the same company who restored the R1 Citizen Kane. They have also worked on a number of Disney features, including the restorations of Show White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio and are rumoured to have restored Mary Poppins for it's upcoming DVD Special Edition release.

See the Casablanca thread for a link to a Lowry Digital chat transcript from The Home Theater Forum.

As for a US release (complete with supplements - such as Casablanca, Giant etc) - count on it. I to predict a 2004 release, possibly round about September to catch the holiday season sales. I also expect the UK to get a Special Edition "upgade" release round about the same time.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
