Lilo & Stitch: The Series
Anybody else watch this?
Over break, I got a chance to see several episodes. I don't get Disney Channel here at college, though, so can only watch it, really, when I go home. But I actually like it. I loved the movie, of course. The show doesn't best the movie, not at all. But I still like it, for what it is, and the resources it has (as a TV show). It's fun. And funny. Agree, disagree? And I'm glad Disney Channel has it. (Being the L&S fanatic I am. lol.)
I haven't seen the Stitch! TV film, though, the DVD that segues into it. I wonder whether I should get it, since I do enjoy the series. But a lot of the reviews at Amazon are negative. Since I love the original movie and like the series, and am not that critical when it comes to Disney animation (not normally), should I spring for the Stitch! film? Has anyone seen that one, to recommend it or not?
Anyway, as for the show, I find that Gantu is quite often hilarious. Just his exclamations for a start, whether commenting on sand as "granular silicate" or some such, or growling, "What in the Horsehead Nebula?!" or something else obscure. 625, the Sandwich-eating experiment, can get annoying, though. lol. Oh, and Pleakley. I do worry about him. lol. But he's a riot, too.
In one episode I saw, where they went to a medieval-type fair, I liked that one. The annoying minstrel kept taunting Stitch, and I just waited for Stitch to break his mandolin. Which, of course, he did. lol. And I liked how Mertle (sp?) and her pals (the ones that always go, "Yeeaaahhh.") were being talked to by Lilo, and when Lilo was done, Stitch goes, "Yeeaaahhh!")
lol. Maybe I'm easily amused by these things.
Of course, the animation in the series isn't as lush and beautiful as it was in the feature film, and so on, but it's nice. I wonder, though, what the plot for Lilo & Stitch 2 will be. I'm assuming they'll keep it isolated from the TV show (and I think they should, cause not everyone would have seen the show, for a start). But I don't know. I'm looking forward to the sequel movie, too. And, though it probably wouldn't be anytime soon, maybe someday they'll release the Lilo & Stitch series on DVD or something...

Re: Lilo & Stitch: The Series
Currently, you can get two episodes of the series on DVD, and they are on the Lilo and Stitch: Island of Adventures Game. The two episodes are "Mr. Stenchy" and "Clip".Squirrel wrote: And, though it probably wouldn't be anytime soon, maybe someday they'll release the Lilo & Stitch series on DVD or something...
I think if any recent series will make it to DVD in some form, then it will be this one. It is certainly one of the most immediate franchises Disney has ad in recent years, and one of the more simple and fun.
I have watched the first dozen episodes or so, but kind of fell out of it when I went on holiday and didn't have access to the Disney Channel (that is the only place to see it here). I think I'd like to pick it up again, because as you say - for what it was, it was a fun little concept. There are obvious budget and animation constraints, but L & S was never about that, it was more about the characters, and it is great to be able to 'spend some more time' with them.
It will be great to see the sequel proper as well, because it is a chance to see the little blue guy on the big screen again.

I've been watching it whenever I can, on Family Channel. It is pretty good child entertainment, but me being a little older than that, I would like to see it have some other plot besides discovering all of the other 600+ experiments that look like Stitch in one way or another and trying to stop it from destroying Hawaii/the world.
From the episodes that I've watched so far, that seems to be the same plot over and over again just with different experiments.

I watched some of the series when I was visiting Arizona. I expected it to be much worse than it was, but it was actually pretty good!
...Japan doesn't get the Disney channel, so now I can't watch it, anymore...
But, I also have to agree with DVD Freak. The episodes do seem to just repeat themselves over and over again. I've only seen a few, though, so maybe they start to become a little more original.

Lilo and Stitch: The Series is a great Disney TV series since Recess.
I enjoy to watch it on the Disney Channel and Channel 7 ABC(Saturdays only). Lilo and Stitch: The Series leaves off from Stitch: The Movie.
I also enjoy to watch Kim Possible and Dave the Barbarian on the Disney Channel.

i've enjoyed it.
Coming home from class or work sometimes it's nice to have a show that has a "lighter" feel to it.
i do think it needs a little more variety. i mean even shows like the real ghostbusters and rescue rangers went off in different directions sometimes.
its given me a chance to learn more phrases in stitch's voice. i do a dead on impersonation.
it's actually not that hard, similar in approach to Bobby from Bobby's Word or Animal from Muppet Babies.
unfortunatly it's one of those voices that after you do it, EVERY one of your friends "Thinks" they can do it too.

I love Lilo and Stitch: The Series! It's cute and enjoyable, and reminds me a lot of the old Disney Afternoon series like Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, etc., in that it tells fun, light stories that are based on the development of the characters instead of constant jokes and gags.
I have a feeling the show will land on DVD fairly soon, since Lilo and Stitch is still an important franchise to Disney.
Oh, and Yuki, Disney Channel has been in Japan since last November 18!

I hope so (about the possibility of the show on DVD). It is a great franchise for Disney...meowthew wrote: I have a feeling the show will land on DVD fairly soon, since Lilo and Stitch is still an important franchise to Disney.

If ever a Disney animated feature was translatable into a TV series, it was this one. I've only seen the first episode... I thought it was just ok, but a little too dumbed down. Of course, one episode isn't enough of a chance, so I'll have to see more. We get Disney channel here, but my roommate watches ESPN almost around the clock. At least it's a Disney subsidiary

Yeah, for the most part the formula seems to be:Yuki wrote:But, I also have to agree with DVD Freak. The episodes do seem to just repeat themselves over and over again. I've only seen a few, though, so maybe they start to become a little more original.
"Experiment [insert number here] is set loose, or about to be set loose, on the island. L & S have to stop it before Gantu finds it/it destroys the world. They do and the experiment finds its rightful place in the world."
However, I did see one yesterday where Stitch was captured by Hamsterviel and was "reinstalled" with his original programming for destruction. Of course, his love for Lilo brought him back etc etc...
This was a fine example of what the show could do, because it not only went outside their "mission" formula, but it also went back to the themes of the original film, in that there is good in everybody. It was very sweet.

I was expecting this show to be terrible, but...it wasn't. It does a very good job of capturing the overall spirit of the movie and continuing the story, even though I still think 626 was intended as a code name and not a number.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with formulas! Scooby Doo has the most rigid formula for a series ever, but it only works when sticking to the formula.
Some of the later Scooby Doos were just terrible - thankfully they've gone back to the original formula (with some postmodern winks to the audience) for What's New Scooby Doo? - shame it took them about 20 years to realise this though (and the movie creators still haven't realised this).
That said, the few Lilo and Stitch episodes I have seen haven't impressed me that much. I think it's because I detect a anarchic sense of humour just about to explode, but it always seems to be stopped just before it goes too far.

I find the L&S series to be very hit-or-miss. I've seen some rather funny episodes and some that were just awful. The writers rely far too much on tired plot devices (like Stitch reverting to his "destructive programming," which I've seen in at least two episodes) that contradict what was laid out in the movie. Then again, kids aren't going to notice this.
I sort of wish I hadn't watched any of the TV show. Disney is running the character into the ground, and I don't want to get to the point where I can't stand to look at the little bugger anymore.

The things I can't stand about the show are the constant reuses of some elements from the movie. It seems that "Ohana" and "lolo" are the only Hawaiin words that the characters know, aside from the occasional holiday episode greetings in Hawaiin. Also, Pleakley's obseesion with female wigs and clothing is actually kind of scary...no, really scary.
A funny thing about this show is Lilo's voice. It's obvious that the now older Daveigh Chase is having a little trouble with achieving the same little girl voice from the film, hehe. But all in all, I still like this show and I try to watch it whenever it's on.
