Forgive my critique, but Is that Samsung TV set up properly, or is the camera's contrast setting too high?
Oops! uh, never mind. At least the image doesn't look as dark as the 2002 restoration.

It may be the camera, i hd to play with it a bit to get a clear picture - something hard to do when you shoot a tv screen.ajmrowland wrote: Forgive my critique, but Is that Samsung TV set up properly, or is the camera's contrast setting too high?
the picture looks perfect on the tv - plus i shot it with flash which 'kill' the colors.

Yeah, I went back and edited my post two posts above. For some reason, the site turned my single-post into a double-post.lighthousemike wrote: It may be the camera, i hd to play with it a bit to get a clear picture - something hard to do when you shoot a tv screen.

Yes, it does. And that's why I find it completely unwatchable. It feels like a big style/time clash. The designs, characters, backgrounds and voices scream 1940, while the new modern look screams 2009. And because I just can't combine those 2 extremely opposite styles, I find it completely unwatchable. Just like Cinderella on dvd.lighthousemike wrote: i was just blown away looks like a brand new movie!!
A really simple solution would be to not watch it then. And stop cluttering up the thread with posts about how you're not going to watch it. Everyone gets it, you're unhappy with the "restoration. "So watch the version that has the restoration you most enjoy and move on.Marky_198 wrote:Yes, it does. And that's why I find it completely unwatchable. It feels like a big style/time clash. I don't understand why there are so many people on this board that insist on finding anything negative they can and nagging on and on about it in every thread. If you have a negative opinion, state it and move on... repeating yourself time and again and in several different threads becomes annoying rather quickly and it ruins the board for the people who actually have something positive to say.
You don't have to love everything Disney does. There are plenty of things they have done that annoy me beyond belief, but complaining about it all over this board isn't going to change it.
Look at it this way... Now you can save yourself $30 !
Back on topic... out of curiosity, the "extended view" paintings in the Bluray... how do they transition ? Do they change abruptly with every scene change ? Or do they cross-fade?

Don't worry. I will NOT watch this version ever again. It has nothing to do with the actual film, so why would I? Everything I love about the film is gone.JDCB1986 wrote:A really simple solution would be to not watch it then. And stop cluttering up the thread with posts about how you're not going to watch it. I don't understand that there are people that don't seem to care that the classics will not exist anymore in a few years. I also can't believe how people don't mind that 2 extremely opposite styles/looks are mixed. In my opinion those people are NOT Disney classic fans, just audio-video fetishists.
I'm not looking for negative things, but I have no choice. And I will keep on going until Disney makes the OTV's available. And I wish I could watch the proper versions forever instead, but for how long will that be possible? I had to set up whole bootleg installation to preserve Cinderella.

In what way? Has the plot been altered? Was character development suddenly weakened by a new restoration? I'm all for films being restored properly and I think it is important, but part of the problem with these films is that very few people who were around during its creation are here to say that this isn't accurate. I know that a lot of people on the forum were bent out of shape over Cinderella's restoration, but I recently found production cells from the film and the colors matched the new restoration, not the version I grew up with on VHS. I know that what was painted doesn't translate to how it looked on film, but I'm assuming that Pinocchio's new treatment is the closest thing to what the filmmakers intended. It doesn't look like Beauty and the Beast where dark scenes that were meant to increase tension in the viewer were lightened to make them less dramatic.Everything I love about the film is gone.
How so? Because they have been restored? Don't go telling everybody here that they aren't a "true Disney fan" because they enjoy these films after the picture has been cleaned up. I love this film because its a good movie. If I could stand to watch it on an overused VHS with tracking problems and still enjoy it, than no amount of color changes will ruin it for me. Maybe you are the one who isn't a true Disney fan since you are the one scrutinizing each film with a magnifying glass.I don't understand that there are people that don't seem to care that the classics will not exist anymore in a few years.

I can see why people would be upset bout older Disney films getting restored to its orignal brillance. I enjoy the platinums cause I get to dive into my memories even better, I get to remember those classic moments that stuck in my mind.
As for the color, I'm completly ok with it, even though I didn't grasp the problem with Cinderella's restoration, the colors don't look too watered down or too bright, just looks like a film. Aren't old films suppose to be clean for any generation that's gon'na see it again? we know that they'll restore the films again 5 yrs from now and people will still be complaining bout the same color pattern
I also enjoy identifying with the characters that stands out to me, especially when i see a personality character like FoulFellow or Baloo. Walt always said that the characters and the story must be engaging yet plausible for entertainment value. These stories are legends now because of Walt's work, yes I'm aware of people only remembering the Disney verison (as many) but we still treasure the classic tales of Disney's films.

Well, basically the whole film looks like a cheap sequel that was made in 2009 by computer. You don't need a magnifying glass for that.goofystitch wrote:

And if there's 1 thing I can assure you, with the technology, handwork, and possibilities back then, this extremely modern 2009 look is NOT what the filmmakers intended.
And it's not about colours, but about atmosphere in general. If you put you hand over the candle, the lighting would make absolutely no difference on Pinocchio's face if the candle would be there or not.
While in all the previous versions, screenshots from thne OTV, and technicolor books I have this works beautifully. So again, this is NOT what the filmmakers intended.
And third, the cells are not what was supposed to be seen.
There are many factors that determine the look of the final picture (lighting of photography for example).
Exactly, and of course we get the one and only Cinderella that was meant to be in 2014, because the newest is always the only good one, right?Mason_Ireton wrote:we know that they'll restore the films again 5 yrs from now and people will still be complaining bout the same color pattern
The 2005 restoration, which was "exactly what was intended" suddenly isn't the best anymore.
And then, in 2020 we have a completely different master again but this time with Hannah Montana as the voice of Cinderella because the old one was way too oldfashioned!
Let's just please go back to the original negatives, Photograph them in the same way they did back then (if the first master isn't available anymore for some reason) make a good master and leave it that way.
