Pocahontas SE coming to Australia - UPDATED!

Post by Loomis »

The OFLC have passed a 2-disc 'Pocahontas Special Edition'.

No details were given beyond that, but this is exciting news for Ausse fans...

No specs as yet but I imagine they will be similar, if not identical, to the ones mentioned in 2099net's post here:

Wow, I hope it will be released here in Brazil as well, but I doubt it.
I will get the region 1 version anyway, but I would love to get an earlier version.

I have the Gold Classic Col. edition, but it is pure crap!

Well it certainly is a mystery as to when it will be released. I did a major trawl of Play.Com 's listings the other day which brought up a few surprises (including Timon and Pumbaa TV compilation DVDs) but no Pocahontas. Or Jungle cubs come to that (thank God).

Well, to update, Empire DVD have posted a November 10 listing for the Pocahontas 2-Disc (which is the same time we are getting the Mulan 2-Disc; Mulan 2; Mary Poppins and a week before Lilo & Stitch 2-Disc):

No further details yet, and I doubt that is the final art.

I don't think that is the exact date as they have a alice in wonderland released on that too.
If you guys get in on Nov 10 tell us whats on it.

A good round-up of what to expect. Note the date of the first post! About 10 months ago!

Ok, the BVHE site now lists the features:

The Making of POCAHONTAS
Production
Multi- Language Reel
Interactive Adventure: Follow Your Heart
Creating Pocahontas
The Music of Pocahontas
Storyboard To Film Comparision
Abandoned Concept
Deleted Sequence

Which I think is the existing features, because they've done the same for the Lilo 2-Disc. Lazy bastards.

Also, here is a link to a page with tiny cover art:
http://www.bvhe.com.au/viewtitledetails?TITLE_ID=1182

(It won't let me diretly link the image)

Yes it has been confirmed by the animator that If I Never Knew You is back in the film. The BBFC timing seems to confirm this too.

Well, that's another reason to hang on to the existing version I guess.

I'm not sure I get the "whole new song" thing. Do they have so much faith in the lasting power of their own films that they have to update them so they can re-release them? Is that the only viable selling point for an older film at Disney? Has George Lucas taken over?

Still, as a proud owner of the PAL (16:9) version, this doesn't upset me too much. And the original is still widely available, so no harm no foul.
