You CAN'T REPEAT the past.
Try telling that to your History textbook. It seems that in some general ways, the past gets repeated all the time.

I know the intentions are good but that's not a good mindset to have if this movie only makes say $150 million when blockbuster films now have to break $200 million.
Keep a little faith. There were THREE eras of classic Disney and they ALL started with Fairytales. Not Roger Rabbit, or Oliver and Company, Fairytales.

I expect TPatF will make a decent amount of money to allow 2D films to come back but major super money maker hits are hard to come by now and it will have to take one big one to ensure a new rennaissance.
This is subjective, as films are not made the way they were 10 years ago. Studios have become much more money-minded, and produce either poor films, or ones with ready-made fanbases, poor sequels, or poor marketing for films that surely deserved better. Surely that's been done for all of cinema, but it seems taken to an extreme, nowadays, with strict adaptations being the norm.
There's a reason why people still place PIXAR on top, and that's because they actually care about the movies, and have full control over the production of their films. Disney just does the marketing and distribution. That's a freedom not all filmmakers are blessed to have.
