What Movie Did You Just Watch - The Silly Subtitle Edition
Wow... I haven't posted in this thread in a really long time...
What have I been watching lately:
- The Gnome-Mobile - This was the first time I saw it since I was a kid. Great, tame entertainment for kids/families. You have to love it! Shy Violet, FTW!
- The Blue Lagoon/Return to the Blue Lagoon - The first is by far the better of the two, but that doesn't mean it's a masterpiece of any kind. It's an interesting premise, which suffers from poor execution. The second one is just a rehash of the original.
- Nikki, Wild Dog of the North - I loved it! It was funny and touching at the same time.
- Joy Ride - Great horror/thriller, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- A League of Their Own - Apart from the "Rocky" films, I was never a fan of sports movies. This one is surely one of the better ones. Geena Davis was the star of course, but Tom Hanks stole the show and Madonna didn't suck that much.
- Bathing Beauty - 1940s camp, but still good
- Conan the Barbarian - I've never read any of Howard's novels, but I did read the comics and this movie really brought Conan's world to life. Fantastic experience!
- John Rambo - It's gorier than the previous "Rambo" movies, but that doesn't take anything away from the movie, it just made it painfully realistic. It's arguably the second best movie of the "Rambo" franchise, "First Blood" is still No. 1.
- Lord of War - Amazing movie. Nicolas Cage is so underrated. But it's his fault, he chooses to make crappy movies.
- Halloween (2007) - Just terrible. A disgrace to the original.
- Mean Girls - I saw bits and pieces before and I never understood why was it so loved. So I finally decided to watch the whole thing and now I understand
.
- Sex and the City: The Movie - I didn't like this one much. It's like they sucked out all the fun out of SatC and turned it into a really long commercial for designer clothes. It's still a good movie, but not as good as the TV show. I hope the next one (if there is one) will be better.
- The Nanny Diaries - Trailers are misleading. I expected this to be some mediocre comedy, and ended up really enjoying it. I was never a big fan of Scarlett Johansson, but this movie made me appreciate her more.
- Wolf - One word: terrific! It seems it was deliberately made to resemble werewolf movies of the '50s, because cinematography and the special effects made it look much older. Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer gave great performances. And I just love how the ending keeps you guessing.
- Tootsie - "How far can you pull back?"
"How do you feel about Cleveland?"
Great movie!
- Candyman - The only "Candyman" movie I saw before this one was "Candyman 3", so I expected some crappy slasher. But I was in for a real treat, because "Candyman" is more of a psychological horror. It keeps you thinking about it long after it's over. Virginia Madsen's performance is amazing. Highly recommended.
- Cousins - Not your average romantic comedy/drama. It's sort of similar to the "Four Weddings and a Funeral", but in its defense, it came out five years before it. I didn't know Joel Schumacher could make movies like this one. And the ending was perfect.

Right on. Love this one. For me, it's partly a great love story. Not that I find Pfeiffer's (sp?) character all that appealing, but it works. If I had any complaint, it'd be about the wolf puppet(s?, haven't seen it in a while) used in the end. I usually am just glad that real stuff was used instead of CGI, but as I recall, this one didn't look very real (couldn't they have gotten a real wolf...).mooky_7_sa wrote: - Wolf - One word: terrific! Anyway, I just saw Doctor Strangelove and the second half of Lil' Abner (the musical). I enjoyed both, though I did come away feeling that Strangelove was overrated (I hadn't seen it before, but had been meaning to for a long time). Not that it isn't a really clever and funny film, but I felt all the sequences detailing all the switches and procedures and flying exhausting. LOVED the cast though, especially Sellars. Excellent ending too. As for Abner, I unfortunately was dragged away from the first half, but I LOVED the second half! It was so cartoony and stagey (though I was less comfortable with that second aspect), and I LOVED how much Abner and Daisy May looked like the cartoon versions! Daisy was quite a hottie too! I definitely want to run out and buy Lil' Abner now, though I spent my last spare cash for now on the Chipmunks Monster Bash 7 film DVD off Ebay. I wonder how difficult Abner is to find at Best Buys and other such stores right now...

I've been watching movies a lot lately on my portable dvd player while I'm on the computer yay multi-tasking.
Seed of Chucky: Blegh that's an hour or so of my life I won't get back
Next of Kin: Well, I half watched it while I played WoW
Saw: I was so confused and disgusted at the same time, it was sort of like "ew?"

I didn't get to see it in theaters, so I watched it on DVD. I absolutely love it!! It is amazingly cute and beautifully animated and I didn't think the message was too overbearing. Fantastic movie and it should have gotten a "real" Oscar nod.
Dirty Dancing
A classic girlie movie. I've watched it countless times, but it's always fun.

Oliver & Company - I see it as a pretty decent movie, much better than the previous three from earlier that decade. Let's just say that I can't get "Why Should I Worry?" out of my head. 8/10

Slave, I thought I was the only one here who'd HEARD of Lil Abner...I love the score and the movie's pretty good...I think Lil Abner is the hot one though...
Things I learned.... that Billie Hayes (Mammy Yokum) played Witchiepoo in the 70s series HR Pufnstuf and O'Riley on General Hospital during the Luke & Laura days!
Tina Louise (Ginger/Gilligan's Island) played Appassionata Von Climax in the stage show.

Yesterday I saw Coraline, I didn't know what to expect but the trailer made the film look mildly interesting. It kinda went off as a trippy verison of Alice In WonderLand here/there wouldn't recommend it for a "must see" but if you just want a movie that's somewhat bizzare yet attempts to have heart in its characters, Coraline might do the trick.
Next week I'm gon'na try and see Confessions of a Shopaholic, maybe I could pick up a few financial budget tips *chuckles*

Unrated doesn't always equal better. I thought the theatrical version of Step Brothers was pretty good. I thought it was a lot better than some of the other recent Will Ferrel comedies.DisneyFreak5282 wrote:I watched Step Brothers. One word - BLECCCHHHH. It was so terrible and unfunny, it was painful to sit through - and this is the unrated version we're talking about, which is supposed to be better.

Really? I have the 2 Disc Unrated version, and the theatrical version is also included, so maybe I'll give that one a chance someday.DarthPrime wrote:Unrated doesn't always equal better. My Friends and I watched Step Brothers recently. One of the most hilarious movies ever! We love most Will Ferrell (sp?) movies though. Tend to rank it third after Elf (which is really very different from the others) and Anchorman.DarthPrime wrote:Unrated doesn't always equal better. Yes, the second one is entertaining at least, and I enjoyed the very cute girls like Amy Adams in Gellar's role. I enjoyed the original very much too and for my money there are few girls hotter than Gellar and Reese in that movie. So very "my type".PeterPanfan wrote:Cruel Intentions - Oh God, I LOVED it! Definitley in my top five favorite films. I'll give the sequels a shot, even though they're supposed to be bad. (But the second one has Amy Adams!)
