Yes, it does. There's a shot of a snake sliding up a sand dune at dusk that is one of the most beautiful shots in the entire Disney library.

Actually, Disney Duster's right. Take a closer look at the two screencaps. Look at all the space on the right hand side after the cloud on the SE cap. On the PE one, the edge of the cloud practically touches the edge of the frame. On the SE, there's also a small, dark cloud on the far left corner. On the PE, it's been cropped off.

The HD version shows slightly more top and bottom, the 4:3 laserdisc version shows slightly more left and right.

Not the first time this has happened in a wide screen transfer, and won't be the last.

eh see that's where I think this whole debate is taken to the exteme...as long as the colors aren't done different to the extreme or something why do we have to know how exactly the colors looked back then?

I think animation/story/dialog is way more important than the tint of a color

I just watched this on Blu-Ray last night and the restoration was awesome! I kept repeating, "Can you believe this was made fifty years ago? Can you? Can you!?!?".

Can't wait to see what they'll do with Pinocchio and Snow White!

Neither can I roll on March and October - I hope business improves before then so I can afford to buy them!!!

How wonderful is DVD - and Blu Ray too though I have yet to buy a DVD player - the way the new technology can bring GREAT old movies back to life and renvigorate them totally both visually and audiovisually!!!

Please note that my screenshots do not present exactly same frames. Apparently those shots are a few frames apart.

Well, as an artist, you care about the exact colors you specifically made for a specific thing in a specific scene for a specific mood, feeling, etc.

Like when that one animator said Snow White's restoration had very nice colors, but not the ones they used.

The point is, we want to see the original. We want to see the original. The original way it was.

Has anyone fired this up lately? The castle setting actually changes with the season in the menu...I had snow on mine.

Yeah, It also changes between day and night, and tells u if it's raining outside! You can also check out the same scenery in the Disney Park locations. Very sweet!

When it comes to restoring a film, we can argue til the cows come home. There will always be inaccuracies, and i'm not one to willingly point them out without ruining my viewing experience.

And BTW, to whoever said the original soundtrack is not on the Blu-ray: you're wrong. It's there in 4.0 DD. Bitrates hardly matter, anyway.

In the US it's on the Blu-ray. However, in other countries like UK and Germany not.

I rented the new DVD when it first came out (I'd never seen the movie before). I thought it was okay. I knew I would buy it eventually, but wasn't in any rush. Well a few weeks ago I decided to go Blu and bought the Blu-Ray at Best Buy. I actually liked the movie more after seeing it a second time. And like many have said, the picture quality is amazing. I love seeing so much detail in the background paintings.

There were really only 2 things I didn't like about this PE:

1. While I love the idea of including the DVD of the movie as well (to watch on other TVs or for traveling), I would have preferred it if they just gave us a case that would hold 3 discs; we get a case to hold the Blu-Ray discs and the DVD comes in a sleeve.

2. I usually don't complain about colors, but I found it kind of annoying how Flora's dress would usually become purple in certain dark scenes. This is the only version of the movie I've seen, so I don't know if this has always been the case, but I'm always thinking, the dark doesn't turn red into purple.

However, I can overlook these 2 flaws and still enjoy the movie very much.

Just a warning to save some people some trouble, though. You may have to disable the Blu-Ray live settings on your player (when I put my disc in, all I would get was a blank screen). I was almost about to go to Best Buy to return the disc, but after doing this it played fine.

Now I just can't wait for Pinocchio!

Blu is amazing. Aurora's Dress is blue in the dark scenes. When you have an HDTV, it's important to calibrate by adjusting the Picture settings to the best quality possible using either a DVE dvd/bd, or the tool on your THX certified dvds.

ajmrowland, you're right, Blu is amazing. I think you misread my post, though. I was actually talking about Flora (the red fairy's) dress becoming purple. Watch the scene where Aurora is being hypnotized. The fairies are listening outside the door. When they're outside, Flora's dress is red, but when they enter the room to go after her, it's purple. Again, I'm not going to start ranting saying that this PE sucks because of this. I just think it's kind of weird is all.

Flora's dress was always purple in the dark. That's just how they painted it to make it look like the lighting in a certain scene adjusted the colour.
