I'm surprised that Beverly Hills Chihuahua did as well as it did then.Escapay wrote:Given the fact that a trailer is supposed to sell itself and make you want to see a movie, if a trailer fails to do that I probably wouldn't want to see the movie in theatres either.kbehm29 wrote:You really avoid seeing movies in theaters because of your opinion of a trailer?

New characters from UP; new still; and more
PixarBlog shares some details on the new characters from Pixar’s forthcoming feature UP which includes the characters “Dug the talking dog”, a female bird named “Kevin” and “Muntz”, the likely villain.
Additionally, the Blogsite also shares a new still which appeared in Entertainment Weekly in their exclusive first look at 12 big movies coming in 2009.
Also posted on the site is the cover art for the Art of UP book which will be available from April 29. According to the ChronicleBooks, “The Art of UP contains more than 250 pieces of concept art developed for the feature, including storyboards, full-color pastels, digital and pencil sketches, character studies, color scripts, and more. Quotes from the director, artists, animators, and production team reveal the sky-high creativity that elevated this whimsical film to new heights.”
(I think I'm a Pixar conspiracy theorist: Remember how Mittens from Bolt was going to be called Mr. Mittens, even though she's a girl? John Lasseter scrapped that idea from Bolt to use for a Pixar movie...

When I first saw the teaser for INCREDIBLES, it didn't interest me at ALL. After I saw a few minutes long scene preview on DISNEY CHANNEL, then I wanted to see it. My dad bought Ratatouie and I watched it with my parents, but it wasn't that interesting to me.kbehm29 wrote:You really avoid seeing movies in theaters because of your opinion of a trailer?
I didn't waste my $ on College Road Trip OR Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Neither interested me. UP doesn't either. I can't see what the plot is (cranky old man makes his house float up into air.......what's the POINT?)
It doesn't have the same appeal as WALL*E or TOY STORY, for me.
And there are many disney movies I've avoided. I rented Underdog only to send it back to Blockbuster by Mail unwatched.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

I can see your point. I thought that Disney's :"Hercules"had a terrible trailer (to much emphasis on jokes and gags), so I avoided that movie in theatres. But when I bought the dvd years later, I found that "Hercules"wasn't that bad at all.KubrickFan wrote:I don't even judge any movie by the trailer anymore. I've seen too many examples of great movies with horrible trailers. Also it can lead to false advertising, a good example is Sweeney Todd. Many moviegoers were disappointed when they found out it was a musical, and based on the trailer they were right as well.
As for "Up", I've only seen a teaser trailer so far, which didn't look very exiting to me, boring rather. Didn't "tease" enough!

I thought the teaser was great- I have so much faith in Pixar and I thought the combinations of animation and grumpy Carl was impressive not to mention original!
did anyone catch the reviews from the 45 minutes that have been screened?
here is the article/ an extremely promising quote
"The first 45 minutes of UP were not just the very best pieces of footage fest shown at BNAT – it was the VERY BEST THING shown at BNAT. Period. Long ago, seemingly in a galaxy far, far away, I was the guy who just wasn’t into Pixar like everybody else around here. But they keep getting better and better. As much as I LOVED Wall-E, this had me involved and in love within the first ten minutes."

did you catch this interview with producers at Pixar Jim Morris and Lindsey Collins??
Collins offers a short review too!
"I saw Up for the first time, and I literally was begging the director to let me take a copy home to show my kid because I loved it. I guess I feel like because I feel that way, you just kind of hope that the audience is able to see the potential of it when they see those little clips and just know that it'll be great."

Ohh that new poster is so original. I just can't get over how life-like the clouds look and how unique their facial expressions are in each image! If that link isn't working for you, then you could try this Facebook page for Pixar. It's got all the images, trailers ect out for UP, kind of nice to have everything all together.

I don't know who Lou Romano is, so I'm not sure. Carl sounded just like he does in the trailer, so I was assuming that they were the actual voices. I just went to watch the clip again, but it was taken down. But, thinking about it, I remember hearing Russell's voice in the trailer, and I had no problem with his voice- he sounded his age to me. Maybe I just wasn't paying close attention when I was watching the clip? I don't know...brownie wrote:The link won't work for me, but if you're referring to Carl and Russell walking through a rainforest, those are most likely the scratch voices. I think it was Lou Romano or something, just standing in until they got the real actors.(I don't get why this is a spoiler, but I hid it, anyway.)

It's definitely a scratch track (aka temp track). Lou Romano is a story man at Pixar, and you might know him as the voice of Linguini in Ratatouille. I can tell that's him as Russell for the clip, and I've seen enough of The Mary Tyler Moore Show to know that's not Ed Asner as Carl. The only weird thing is that animation is usually set to the finalized voices. If there's already animation fully completed, why are they using the scratch track instead of the actual vocal work the scene was based on?

Oh, you meant Linguini, not Luigi! I was thinking, who the heck is Luigi?!?
Yeah, that's a good question- why are they showing the finished clip without the finished vocal track? Thanks for the info!
Anyhoo, regardless of all that, I'm super-excited to see the movie- it could even be the funniest Pixar film yet!

I agree this does seem like it could be the funniest Pixar movie thus far...
Humor and quality animation, oh Pixar you are amazing. Seeing the rainforest pop off the screen in 3D should be breathtaking.
Did anyone catch Bolt in 3D? The new glasses are so comfortable and it was such a unique experience. I am for sure seeing UP in 3D.

The first 50 mins of "Up" is being screened at the New York Comic Con this weekend (Feb 6 - 8 ). There's also a panel discussion with Pete Docter planned. Here's hoping someone reading this can come back with some details to share here.
