Heavyweights Censored DVD

Post by DL-Craze »

I just bought this DVD and noticed that alot of curses and jokes were missing. I remember when the kid says he doesnt wanna go to a cam with a bunch of fat asses, instead it says fat loads. And in the part whre the other camp come on a boat they say "you suck!", intead they say u stink. Another scene is when one kid is on a go-kart and says "oh shit", instead he says "oh shoot!" I read somewhere where this movie was close to getting a PG-13 rating for all the dirty jokes and cursing. Anyone know any other things that were edited out?

Yep... About a third of the picture on either side of the frame!

LOL, so that movie is open matte? (Or should be, anyway)

Anyone know if the VHS/laserdisc was the OTV or if that was censored too?

Actually, I'm not sure if it's Pan & Scan, or open matte. Either way, it's not widescreen, and that means no sale for me.

You mean the DVD isn't widescreen?

I thought you were saying it was so they cut off 30% of the image above and below it.

Nope, the DVD is full frame (whether it's P&S or open matte is unknown).

Several of the movies from the 1990s that we have on fullscreen here in the States (i.e. Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, Tall Tale: An Unbelieveable Adventure, etc.) are available in their original widescreen ratio(s) on PAL DVD. I'm not sure if "Heavyeweights" is available on PAL DVD or what it's ratio is.

For that matter, the uncersnored version of "Heavyweights" might be available on DVD overseas as well.

It's worth a try.

I know they say that word in "Trenchcoat" (1983) and "Journey of Natty Gann" (1985) for sure. I'm sure there are others.

Also "Flight of the Navigator." I didn't even realize it until the DVD came out, as I only had the version I'd taped off of Disney Channel in 1987 or so and of course it was censored.

The 80's was a weird era for films, you could get away with saying not only the S-word, but the F-word in PG movies! :o

well, PG does stand for parental guidance. now, apparently parental guidance is needed on a film like Lilo & Stitch or Atlantis: The Lost Empire. It all comes down to how much of a prude our society has gotten, we're used to it now.

You mean like the following lines from the following PG films? :P

Spaceballs - "Out of order?! F%#@! Even in the future nothing works!"
Mommie Dearest - Do I really have to say it? :P

Yeah, I thought Flight of the Navigator was pretty foul language in comparison to other Disney movies. But I did like it.

And somehow I think Spaceballs is the only movie to have an F-word and be PG... ironically I was just watching that earlier on Retro TV network. And it was uncensored. Not sure what it was rated for TV airing...
(I know you're only supposed to have one F-word for a PG-13 but movies like Ocean's Eleven have gotten away with as many as four...)[/list]

Nope. Mommie Dearest is PG and she screams "DOOOOOOON'T FUCK WITH ME FELLAS!" at the top of her lungs. 8)

LOL... never heard of/seen that movie.

Plus, I didn't realize this forum didn't have any form of language filter at all

I'll look into foreign DVD releases of Heavyweights.

Your loss.

Or you could, I dunno, check around the vast library of UD info pages and find this helpful little link:

Pan & Scan DVDs to Avoid

Where available, it gives links to international releases where the DVD is in proper widescreen.
