Me too! But since I'm not yet Blu I have to pass on them for now!
Plus, even if I did go Blu, I would force myself to not buy any Blu-Rays until The Ten Commandments hits Blu. I'd love for that to be the one I can boast about years later in a "What was the first Blu-Ray you ever bought?" thread.

As you may or may not know, Gigi and An American in Paris are both out already in other parts of the world. The Audio and subtitle options in these reviews show the US will get the same discs.
So enjoy the reviews of

While I can appreciate the effort put into a set like the Woodstock one or Casablanca's, part of the appeal of blu-ray (besides the most important aspects of picture and sound) is that the packaging is smaller/thinner than it's predecessor. Why not give the option of a single disc and also a collector's edition. Warner's tries to be different and fails every time. How about putting everything they have into the actual discs and have the packaging be secondary. THAT would actually be innovative.

From TheDigitalBits' Rumor Mill, Doctor Zhivago will get the UCE treatment in 2010:

I'm still waiting for the Show Boat collection.
And I was upset when I found this picture:

I know I'll probably not use the gubbins in it (1951 Souvenir Program, Lobby Cards, Poster Cards, Production Photos, Telegram Reproduction), but it's kinda sad that Quo Vadis got an Ultimate Collector's Edition release in other regions but not here.
*sigh* Oh well. Maybe Warner's gonna revisit it later as a UCE and add more stuff. I mean, a commentary, 45-minute documentary , and 2 trailers are okay, but they could easily find more to include. Surely at least the 1925 version still exists somewhere? And given how long its Ultra-Resolution restoration took, they could easily make a 10-15 minute featurette about it. I'd probably also include biographical documentaries for Mervyn LeRoy and Robert Taylor.

Egh. I personally don't think "Quo Vadis" merits a UCE. But "Doctor Zhivago" is a different story...looking forward to learning more about that release, as I fear my DVD is on it's last legs.
I'm more than happy with the current Blu-ray of "Quo Vadis"; and would personally prefer a TCM Spotlight Leslie Caron Collection with "Lili" and "The Glass Slipper". I was a bit upset that Warners rushed "The Story of Three Loves" out in the Archives series--would have been great in a Leslie Caron set instead...

Funny story with the old Doctor Zhivago DVD. When I watched it for the first time years ago, I never saw a movie with an intermission or one that had been split up in multiple parts, so I watched the wrong side of the flipper disc first (one of the BIG reasons I hate flipper discs). Suffice to say, I rented it again and watched the whole thing a second time in the proper order and enjoyed it a lot more
Anyways, since then I've watched many epics (including all of Lean's) with intermissions and never came across that problem again (I now know what Entr'acte means).

Well, if something like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation can get one...Cordy_Biddle wrote:Egh. I personally don't think "Quo Vadis" merits a UCE.

Ah, thanks KubrickFan. I wonder why TDB reported it was an Ultimate Collector's Edition.KubrickFan wrote:Doctor Zhivago will be a digibook, actually:

What's happened to this?

Why haven't we heard more about this? I'd love to have it, only because I bought the souvenir programme myself before watching the movie on it's original release. I'd love to have a smaller-sized reproduction.

Had there been additional disc-based extras along with the gubbins, I'd be inclined to get it. The reunion commentary is great and all, but I'd really like some kind of formal documentary about making the film and the cult following it spawned, along with all the will-they-or-won't-they? talk about a sequel.

But... but... but... look! Look! Board Game! Board Game! What more do you want? Insight into the movie? You're such a square. You'll be wanting theatrical trailers on DVDs next.Escapay wrote: Maybe because there's not much else to say about it?
