Top 10 Disney songs

Post by tlc38tlc38 »

I did a search for "disney song" and nothing like this came up, so I thought this would be a fun thread.

What are your top 10 Disney songs?

Here's my list in order:

2. - "Baby Mine" - Dumbo (Alison Krauss version)
3. - "Part of Your World" - The Little Mermaid
4. - "He Mele No Lilo" - Lilo & Stitch
5. - "I'm Still Here" - Treasure Planet
6. - "The Bells of Notre Dame" - The Hunchback of Notre Dame
7. - "You'll Be in My Heart" - Tarzan
8. - "Kiss the Girl" - The Little Mermaid
9. - "Circle of Life" - The Lion King

 True, I do like that version. But it probably stems from theme park and "Wishes" memories. The trifecta of "Wishes", Linda Ronstadt's "A Dream Is A Wish", and S Club 7's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?" is perfect post-fireworks music. Plus, it meant closing time.

Whoooaaa... I started a thread like this? That was looong time ago :P

But anyway, I'll update my top 10 (not in any real order):

1. A Whole New World
2. Be Our Guest
3. Hakuna Matata
4. Under the Sea
5. I'll Make a Man Out of You
6. I Won't Say (I'm in Love)
7. Friend Like Me
8. Prince Ali
9. Gaston
10. Kiss the Girl and Part of Your World (tie =P)

So yeah... obviously my favorite Disney Soundtracks are the ones to Aladding, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Lion King, and Hercules. And Mulan. lol.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

1. 'Tomorrow is another day' from The Rescuers

I had a hard time deciding between this one and 'The journey'. Shelby Flint's singing is just incredible, I love it.

2. 'The journey' from The Rescuers

Hence my number 2. It just perfectly sets up the mood for the film. It fits so well with the dire state Penny is in when she throws that bottle into the water. I especially like how the music and the paintings work together seamlessly. One underlines the other.

3. 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious' from Mary Poppins

Not because of the music or lyrics persé. Just because of the delivery by Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke. Most Disney songs work perfectly without the images, but this one you've got to see or it isn't any fun. The chemistry between the two is amazing. I don't think it has been matched in any film.

4. 'The bells of Notre Dame' from Hunchback of Notre Dame

Superb work by Alan Menken. It almost sounds like an opera; it's heavy and bombastic. I love the sound of the churchbells. Best opening of any Disney-film.

5. 'Hellfire' from Hunchback of Notre Dame

Incredible. Also one of the fw songs that can't be appreciated fully when not watching the film. I never thought I would see this kind of themes in a Disney movie. It is here that Frollo becomes the best Disney villain, because he's so frightningly real.

6. 'Feed the birds' from Mary Poppins

The only Disney song that brings a tear to my eye. The emotional heart of the film. Never understood this song when I was much younger. I was like: "okay, feed the damn birds already!" ;)

7. 'Bonjour' from Beauty and the Beast

Because Howard Ashman did such a great job in telling everything you need to know about Belle, Gaston and the village in just 5 minutes. Think about how hard it must have been to capture all that in just one song.

8. 'Why should I worry' from Oliver & Company

In my opinion the best introduction of a Disney character of all time. It immediately tells you who Dodger is. And it swings, of course! 8)

9. 'Poor unfortunate souls' from The Little Mermaid

The best performance in the movie comes from Pat Carroll. Her Ursula is just perfect. This song displays all her talent, it's so diverse and it never holds up the story, but keeps it flowing.

10. 'Oh what a Merry Christmas day' from Mickey's Christmas Carol.

I don't know why, but this one always gets to me. It's just so joyful, I think. Even when it's in the middle of the summer, this song sets me in the right mood. Wonderful voices.

I stand by that list. But I'd like to add some more favorites, in a kind of Top 10 of perhaps undersung or underappreciated or overlooked or just less popular songs I still rather like:

1. "You Belong to My Heart" - The Three Caballeros
2. "Let Me Be Good to You" - The Great Mouse Detective
3. "Too Good to Be True" - Fun and Fancy Free
4. "Love" - Robin Hood
5. "Baia" - The Three Caballeros (and later "Have You Been to Baia?" - they've got to be separate songs, they sound completely different)
6. "Blue Shadows on the Trail" - Melody Time
7. "Oh, Sing Sweet Nightingale" - Cinderella
8. "The Elegant Captain Hook" - Peter Pan
9. "Once Upon a Wintertime" - Melody Time
10. "The Humphrey Hop (Papers in the Bag)" - Humphrey / The Ranger of Brownstone
