The only reason this thread has gone on so long about this one character in this one scene of Fantasia is because she is black.

No, it's because "this one character" was in "this one scene of Fantasia" and it was censored and this thread is titles "Censored Fantasia", not "Censored Aristocats" or "Censored Peter Pan".

Why is nobody making a big deal about Chink from The Aristocats ?
Why is nobody making a big deal about the "Injuns" in Peter Pan ?
Why is nobody making a big deal about Strombolli in Pinocchio ?
Why is nobody making a big deal about the Arabs in Aladdin ?
Why is nobody making a big deal about the French in Ratatouille ?
Why is nobody making a big deal about any of the other tens of characters that are negatively stereotyped in Disney films ?

Because these characters were NOT censored. If something is censored or banned or edited, then people automatically become more interested in it - it's human nature. In most cases, such censorship backfires and makes more people want to see it. For example, there was once a film put on a "blacklist" by the Roman Catholic Church - I forget which - but it made more people want to see it. So here, Sunflower was censored, and so naturally people are interested in the subject. (I can't, however, defend some of their over-the-top reactions.) That's not to say I approve of the above stereotypes, but that's just the way things are.

Incidentally, Flanger-Hanger already mentioned Peter Pan.

Some lines of Arabian Nights were changed due to the Arab-Americans complaining to Disney.

Also, I know Native American tribes have also complained about the portrayal of Indians and the song "why is the red man red?". I am not sure if Disney some how compensated them in some way. Maybe Pocahontas and Brother Bear was in part way an apology to them as well.

Something that another website mentioned (http://forum.bcdb.com/forum/_C1/_F1/Sun ... SIA_P64738 ) was that in the 3 scenes that Sunflower is in, her hair is different. If you watch the uncut "Pastoral Symphony", then that is evident. I had only seen the short clips before, never the full segment until right now (but I didn't watch the end, since I'm going to bed!

It makes me wonder- even though I guess the model sheets say "Sunflower", is what we think is one character actually 3 characters? Why else would her appearance change so often in a short amount of time? Just a thought.

I think Sunflower shouldn't be censored because :

1. She's a really lovely character, she's got a more friendly and likable persona which distinguishes her from the other self-obsessed centaurs.

2. In the scene you can spot beautiful black centaurs running around, so Walt Disney was actually unbiased with the representation of that race.

Don't let me get started about "Song of the South"not getting a release, BVHE the actor got an Oscar for f**k's sake.

And BTW I'm an Arab, and I couldn't care less about the original "Arabian Nights" lyrics.
