Haven't seen many films in 2008, but Gran Torino was my favorite. It's portayal of generation and racial gaps is timely and Clint's sendout as Walt is a rousing amalgam of his previous tough-guy roles.

The Dark Knight was much more than what I expected. I appreciated Batman Begins, but The Dark Knight is in another bracket. Heath Ledger's performance, the "escalation" plot, the score, the cinematography, the bat-pod. The most impacting superhero or comic-book movie I've seen.

Wall-E is Pixar's best film since The Incredibles, and features their best characters since the Toy Story films. The animation and sound effects delight, I never noticed the long gaps between dialogue. The humorous but potent take on the human race perhaps makes it Pixar's most relevant movie as of its release.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a standout, but I was distracted by the similarities between it and the screenwriter's other famous live-through-history film, Forest Gump.

Other flicks I enjoyed were the documentary Man on Wire, Yes Man, 21, Valkyrie, and W.
