Least Favorite Foods thread

Post by Lazario »

We had a thread for Favorite Foods, stands to reason it's about time to tell the world about your least favorite foods. The ones you can't stand, wish would disappear forever, and make you more than a little nauseous when you see them.

Are you a vegetarian and meat makes you sad? What vegetables do you hate as much now as you did when you were a kid? What ice cream flavors make you want to skip dessert? What other fruits, grains, candy, dairy, junk food, and other digestible / edible things do you really dislike??

Yay! Another food thread!!!

My 2 most hated foods are onions and garlic. I can't stand them. They disgust me to no end.

I also don't like olives, chocolate-covered fruit (except for cherries and raisins), rum-flavored things (like rum-flavored Life Savers and rum- raisin ice cream), and cheese on apples. I had a ginger salad dressing in Japan at Epcot, and I didn't like it, but I haven't had other ginger dressings, so I'm not sure if I dislike all ginger dressings or just that one.

Here are some of the ones that turn my stomach:

1. Image
Vanilla, and especially Vanilla Ice Cream

2. Image
The most disgusting "meat" I can think of: Spam! How could this company fathom people wasting good bread, lettuce, and tomatoes on making a sandwich with this "meat"?!! That's just plain wrong!

3. Creamed Vegetables, especially:
Image
Creamed Corn & Spinach. Creamed Onions are nasty, too

4. Image
Fireballs. How these went on to become labeled "candy" is beyond me. Parents should use these instead of soap in the mouth to punish their kids!

5. Image
Breaded Cheese Sticks. Proof that people will fry anything and call it food

6. Image
Raddish. I've only ever had this particular vegetable many once or twice in my life - I don't even know of anyone who'll eat this

7. Image
Blueberries. Every time I eat one, I kind of feel like all the good fruits were taken. Blueberry-Candy Canes though are pretty good

8. Image
Sausage. Naturally spicy, not as satisfying as hot dogs, and just about the last food I enjoy waking up to as a proposed part of my breakfast

9. Image
Why do candy companies always have to ruin a good thing? Also on the list of Skittle-related attrocities are: Sour Skittles and Mint Skittles. Chocolate Skittles are so disgusting!

10. Image
You know those scenes in movies where kids have to complain about certain vegetables? Why do they always go after brussel-sprouts or broccoli? They're both good compared to... Zuccini! Whether it's buttered and salted, or just steamed, it's like hot mush in your mouth. The gagging possibilities are endless

11. Image
Deviled Eggs. Another example of something good turned into something gross, just to give someone something to say they have a recipe for

12. Image
Salisbury Steak. Flavorless, mushy dead-cow. That's all it is. The consistency of meatloaf without the flavor, and with only the word "Steak" in it to make it sound appetizing

13. Image
Speaking of no flavor... all Melons (with the occasional exception of watermelon) / Cantelopes are just watery juice and moist pulp. Like a colder, slightly sweeter version of a pumpkin

14. Image
White Jelly Beans. They're either spicy or taste like pure sugar, which is disgusting

15. Image
Cucumbers. All of taste pet peeves are here - moist, mushy, flavorless. And they're no good on sandwiches because of the seeds

16. 2 more meats that sicken me:
Image and Image
Salami and Pastrami - any wonder how they both have "ami" in their names? Put them in your sandwich and that sandwich is not going to thank you for it

17. Image
Artificial sweeteners will never take the place of the real things

Some other food items that I'm not crazy about:

*Sweet & Sour Sauce
*Pudding
*Bologna
*Squash
*Brown Sugar

After working in foods for a long time, I know a few things that really turn my stomach and make me feel like chucking.

Pickles: They smell and look and taste awful. It was always a sad day when I had to get more pickles from the back. AND, pickle juice dries out your skin. They're awful.

Olives: For the same reasons as above. The smell is what REALLY turns me off from olives.

Clams: The texture of a clam in your mouth is epicly gross. It's slippery and slides all over your mouth. And they're super salty and to add salty butter to something already salty...ugh. Makes me sick.

Ledvar (sp?): ESPECIALLY in kiffels! Why stuff something that could be so tasty with something so dispicable? It's like watching death seep out of your Christmas munchie.

Organic Peanut Butter: Maybe it's just because I love peanut butter (and I'd venture to say I love peanut butter more than anyone in the whole world, soo...) but it's just terrible. It's so DRY! You stick the knife in and the peanut butter breaks apart. Gag.

Grits and Scrapple: One looks like barf and the other looks like crap, two things you'll have to do lots of if you eat them.

Tomatoes: You want to talk about moist, mushy, and flavorless, Laz? Eat a tomato.

Bloody Marys: Tomato juice and vodka? I could need a drink so bad and pass up on that one. Awful.

And, finally, I am going to tell you all something that will possibly come in handy. The WORST drink I have ever tasted in all my days...:

Diet Mountain Dew with cheap vodka: I'm sure it would taste bad with GOOD vodka, but cheap? Gross. Don't ever do it. Or if you're going to use cheap vodka, use a good soda! I also tried cheap vodka and cheap soda=disgusting. Don't do it. One of them has to be quality, or you WILL puke.

Does this mean you don't like spaghetti sauce? Pizza? Or just raw tomatoes?

You're supposed to put them in your sandwiches and salads. I also put them in my turkey-meatloaf when I cook it in a frying pan.

But I agree with you on, wait- rather, I find all Mountain Dew and Mellow Yellow flavors to be abhorable.

It's just the raw tomatoes. I LOVE tomato soup with rice. It's good. Probably because a) soup is SUPPOSED to be runny b) it's hot and c) there's flavour.

As for Mountain Dew/Mellow Yellow, it's not terrible. It's not my first choice of drink due to it's excessive sugar levels, but it's not awful. My friend Ana only ever drinks diet soda because regular soda makes her feel sick, hence the Diet Mountain Dew. It was awful.

I'm glad people are mentioning drinks, because I thought of adding drinks to mine!

I don't like soda, because I don't like the bubbles. I like the fruity flavors and the flavor of cream soda, but I don't like the bubbles. And any kind of cola is so disgusting to me! And I don't like alcohol. I think it tastes gross and I don't like how drunk people act!

Same here! I hate alcohol with a passion. I even feel bad when I have to watch a show I love, because I love the characters, etc., and they go to bars and are always talking about how great alcohol is.

Lol, I find it ironic that your avatar features alcohol...or it could be colored water, who knows. :) But it's refreshing to find other people around my age who think the same as I do on the alcohol issue, because it sometimes seems like we're the drunken generation or something.

It's liquid. So, for all anyone knows, they're chemicals prepared for an old episode of Mr. Wizard. Swing by the "Explain Your Avatar" thread for an explainataion. I'm in there somewhere. One thing's for sure, it isn't irony. Irony would involve lots of suggestions of hypocracy. And that's not what's going on here at all.

I think a generation is a 25 year span, so we can't use that expression for this observation anymore. I like to think of us more as the Legally Blonde decade. Obsessed with the ideal of a good-looking surface before we "got out to party," but oblivious to how our pathetic indulgences make us really look. So far removed from criticism of our "lifestyles" (the real ones, not the politically assumed ones to attack minorities, etc) because we say we use them to de-stress. But really, we're a new product-line of addicts. Using the well-documented Mtv-Life to keep ourselves constantly medicated, so we don't feel all the real in life that is unfortunate, sad, inconvenient, scary, and painful.

I'm actually not getting as heavy as it sounds like I am. This is still simply a criticism of alcohol, drugs, smoking, Couture-Culture, Sports-Culture, "Sexy"-Culture, and the way they negatively impact on our psyches and self-esteems. Or, the way we allow other people to use them to negatively impact on our psyches and self-esteems. If the Psyche and Self-Esteem still exist anymore.

Way to go Off-Topic - huh?

I read the meaning of your avatar in that thread when you posted it- I think that it's clever!

I guess I don't know the meaning of "irony", then...oh well. I try to sound smart and use big words, and then apparently I use them wrong. :)

Believe me, Amy, MY generation is the drunken one. Almost everybody my age I know is getting DUIs and getting arrested on drug charges. I have at least 3 friends who have had one or the other. It's beginning to make me sick.

Raisins -- By themselves, they're alright, but I hate it when people throw them in cinnamon rolls, oatmeal cookies, apple turnovers, pancakes, or--gag--couscous. What bugs me is that all these things taste perfectly delicious by themselves, but when people insist on throwing raisins in, they've ruined it for me (and anyone else who is anti-raisins).

Bread pudding, rice pudding, tapioca pudding -- They're clumpy and smooth at the same time! Ewwww. I also used to hate oatmeal for the longest time, but recently I've taken a liking to a maple brown sugar variety. Then again, if it isn't made in a very specific way, I don't enjoy it. Boy, does that make me sound high maintenance. I'd rather stick to cereal.

Grapefruit juice -- Too bitter. Reminds me of vomit. :P

Pulpy orange juice -- NO! EWWWWW! It's like backwash.

Citrus (specifically oranges and lemon) that's combined with something other than fruit -- Examples include chocolate-covered oranges, orange sherbert/dreamsicles, lemon baked goods, etc.

Ginger -- Fresh ginger is disgusting.

Certain kinds of vegetables -- I don't know if I actually have a least favorite because I despise and avoid so many. I hate peas (icky texture and they roll around too much--I don't think I trust that), zucchini (icky flavor), broccoli (icky texture), raw tomatoes (icky flavor), eggplant (icky texture), avocados (icky texture AND taste--although I believe it's a fruit!), etc.

Seafood -- Fish just disgusts me. I don't eat it because I'm a vegetarian. To be honest, when I decided to become one a few years ago, I was thrilled to have an actual excuse not to eat seafood (my mom sometimes forced me to eat lobster, scallops, oysters, etc. Ewwww!). And I know I'm not the only one who thinks tuna smells exactly like cat food.

Diet soda, cherry-flavored soda, vanilla coke, lemon-lime soda, root beer, soda floats -- All gross.

Coffee and tea -- These leaves me with only one hot beverage to drink: hot chocolate (and I adore it!). My mom and some other adults told me as a child that I would grow to love coffee and/or tea, but I never have. I guess I'm a stubborn little one. :D

My, my... what a picky eaters you all are! I do not understand how you can hate radish and tomatoes, coffee and tea!

Foods I don't like:

Brussel sprouts
Baked liver (but I like liver sausage, none the less)
Raw carrots
Clams
Haricot vert ( well if I must I can eat some, but I'm not keen on it)
marmite
Cake with ginger in it
I don't fancy strong spirits like brandy, cognac, whiskey (I do like portwine and sherry)

For the rest, you can serve me almost anything, as long as it's not full of junk like artificial flavouring and coloring and to much salt or sugar (well, insects is something I will not soon eat, as I'm not used to it) :P
