Where to buy films unavailable on DVD

Post by blackcauldron85 »

One of my favorite movies to watch on Turner Classic Movies is Till the End of Time. It's not available on DVD in Region 1. There are some websites selling it (but it's not a legit release, since it's never been released on DVD in Region 1). I've never willingly bought a bootleg DVD before. Here are the websites that I've found that are selling the movie on DVD:

http://www.ioffer.com/i/83558951

http://www.redcarpetvideo.net/tiendofti1dv.html

http://freemoviesondvd.com/

http://www.nostalgiafilms.com/tiendofti1dv.html

http://www.timelesstheater.com/index.html

http://www.scootermoviesshop.com

Would any of you buy a DVD from any of those above sites? Are there any that look like I should stay away from them? Is there a website that you buy movies that aren't available on DVD?

Thanks! :)

iOffer is a lot like eBay, including feedback. If someone has plenty of good feedback, I'd say they sell good bootlegs - or as good as possible.

Although movies aren't necessarily FREE on freemoviesondvd.com, I've heard some good things about ordering from them. The quality may not always be DVD-quality, but considering what some of the titles they sell are, it's not that surprising. They're one of the few websites selling copies of the "lost" Joan Crawford film Letty Lynton, which has been in legal limbo for about 70 years now. I'm pretty sure the AVI file I grabbed somewhere I won't mention in public was taken from their copy, cause I saw screengrabs of the bootleg on a blog, and it looked pretty much like mine. It's VERY nasty quality and almost unwatchable, but considering its absolute unavailabilty otherwise, it's worth the horrible umpteenth generation VHS dub quality.

The DVD from iOffer is the cheapest, besides the Free DVD site, and the guy has really good feedback. I'm still going to wait for other people's opinions (if they give them), but I think I'm leaning more toward the iOffer DVD. But, saying that, a couple of the sites have a DVD case made up...which is tempting...I guess I'm just not 100% sure yet.

Thanks!

I just wait once a year to hit Megacon in Orlando. They have bootleg dealers there any all the good ones have a TV and DVD player there and let you view the DVD before you buy it. But its good to have an online resource. I only have a small number of bootlegs, but they are movies that likely will never see the light of day in DVD in the USA or at all...and at the very least, they may get to DVD in the States, but be edited down. Plague Dogs, Unico, Ringing Bell, Flight of Dragons, and Song of the South are what I have thus far.

I have a bootleg of SOTS that Bobby downloaded for me years ago, but I've never willingly wanted to buy a bootleg until now, just because TCM doesn't play the movie too often, and I really like it.

Blackcauldron, do you mean this one?

I would suggest investing in a good region free player, and finding a way to get this one (and others) from other countries as legitimate releases, rather than bootlegs. DVDAficionado shows Till the End of Time as being available in Spain, from Manga Films.

Of course, there are a few I would consider picking up on bootleg myself (although we probably shouldn't talk about such things on the forum...)
Song of the South
Porgy & Bess (complete with the musical numbers)
the Batman TV series
The ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy (not the special edition versions, in Anamorphic widescreen.) Maybe Lucas will release them on Blu-Ray one of these days.
The Star Wars Holiday Special

Yup, that's the one!

It's probably cheaper just to buy one bootleg DVD than buying a whole new DVD player...I haven't bought the DVD yet, but I still might.
