Am I the only one who doesn't like the altered scenes? I mean, well, I just don't like the one with the sisters. I find it very disrespectful for someone to change the original artists' work (no matter how terrible) just because the latest crew clearly did not do their research when recreating the character. Adella was fat not only in the series (which was also ignored anyway), but she was chubbier than the rest of the sisters in the original film. For them to "fix" someone else's work just because they couldn't do their research really irritates me. Plus, those bags under Adella's eyes make her look bulimic.
I'm a little on the fence about the redone Ariel scenes. Definitely a plus from me for the transformation scene, but the one with Morgana seems very unnecessary, considering she goes even more off model in other scenes. I'd much rather have something that needs to be fixed fixed than have something that is at least a little tolerable fixed.
In fact, holding them side-by-side, the main difference is a little more hair was added to the other side of Morgana's arm, and eyelashes were added to Ariel's eyes (causing her to look like Vanessa, who noticeably has more eyelashes than Ariel).
goofystitch wrote:My theory on why they didn't change the animation of Ariel at the end of For A Moment is because it is a much longer shot that fades between Ariel and Melody. There are no clear cuts to make it easy to substitute new animation and would have required recompositing multiple shots.
Exactly what I was thinking. Too bad, though. That would've made the song perfect for me, at least.
Can anyone confirm if Flounder was redone in the scene with Melody, when he's slamming himself against the wall? He goes SO off-model in that scene (looking like he does in the original film). And also if the scene with Ariel and Max was redone (the animation of Max running around in the ocean by the palace wall is very choppy)?
I'm still very surprised that they would redo those scenes. I'm aware of the "priest" scene in the original film, and how it was "flattened out", but that was due to urban legend. These are just noticeable flaws. If they were going to be doing this in the first place, they should have redone all the shots of Ariel and cleaned her eyebrows (her eyebrows get bushy like Eric and Melody's in some parts of the movie, when they're supposed to be lines), and fixed all of the aforementioned flaws (Ariel's neck, Flounder's flashback, Max's skipping). Retooling Melody whenever appropriate would've been great, as well.
Does anyone happen to know what the DVD menus of the original TLM2 release looked like and/or can provide (a) still(s)? OR can tell me if the menus were animated or not? Just curious, mainly.
