What happens if Jetix pulls the plug, they will not be showing animae shows anymore. I found this on YouTube where you sign a petition to save Jetix. Go here!

So now High School Musical and Camp Rock, movies about males, are now "girly"? what is wrong with Disney???.
First it was "TinkerBell/Marie/Hannah Montana/Princesses for little girls and Jack Sparrow/WALL-E/Buzz Lightyear/Lightning McQueen/Nemo for little boys" now this? this is stupid! :x Disney is for everyone! for every gender, age, race, everyone! little boys can like Princess and TinkerBell and little girls can like Pirates Of The Caribbean and Pixar films, and both little boys and little girls can watch Disney Channel, everyone can watch Hannah Montana,Kim Possible,Camp Rock and High School Musical.

I do hate the labeling of shows/films as 'male' or 'female' - I like Disney princesses but I'm a guy. They almost make it awkward and uncomfortable to like these products.

I do admit I find it strange that on the 3 Minute game show for CHEETAH GIRLS ONE WORLD they had a guy contestant.........

Anyway.......

'CARS' needs to PREMIERE on DISNEY CHANNEL! It came out two years ago today on DVD and has yet to make its Disney Channel Premiere. Maybe this new channel will premiere it?

Toon Disney wasn't very DISNEY anyway.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Knievel gets animated with Disney
By Kimberly Nordyke

Disney XD, which is rebranding from Toon Disney in February, is partnering with daredevil "Kaptain" Robbie Knievel for a 2-D animated comedy series about a 12-year-old boy who wants to become the world's greatest daredevil.
"Kid Knievel," from Walt Disney Television Animation, marks the first animated show for Disney XD, which is primarily targeted at boys ages 6-14 and their families. Knievel will serve as a stunt consultant on the series, which is in production for a fall 2009 premiere.

The series centers on a boy (voiced by Chris Edgerly) -- short in stature but big in heart -- who, inspired by Knievel, overcomes incredible obstacles in his quest to become the world's greatest and most extreme daredevil.

Matt Jones and Danny Cooksey also voice roles in the show, which was created by Sandro Corsaro. Chris Savino is the executive producer and director.

" 'Kid Knievel' sets the tone for the animated series to come," said Eric Coleman, senior vp original series at Walt Disney Television Animation. "It has breakout characters, fresh designs, big laughs and great action."

Disney XD.com will present five 55-second original animated shorts ahead of the series premiere. The shorts will air thereafter on Disney XD.

This reminds me of the old Beauty and the Beast Sega Genesis games. Instead of making one game, they split it into two for boys and girls. The girl one, you played Belle. Absolutely helpless and hopeless. More boring game I ever played in my life. The boy's version was better, Beast, you could actually defend yourself. And I remember one of the gaming magazines did a review about both games and how girls would like the boys one better.

VERY disappointed to see Toon Disney being taken over by this. Toon Disney was more close to what the REAL Disney Channel was once many moons ago.

Hannah Montana, meet Aaron Stone.

With a series that appears to mimic the success of teen idol Miley Cyrus except with a boy lead, The Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday it was launching a new series called "Aaron Stone" to help rebrand its sagging "Toon Disney" channel on basic cable.

The series debuts with a preview episode on iTunes at the end of January, and features regular kid Charlie Landers becoming the larger-than-life crime fighter Aaron Stone, much like Cyrus, a normal girl who leads the secret life of a pop star.

Disney is hoping the series helps bring new audiences to its 24-hour basic cable channel, which it is rebranding as "Disney XD" on Feb. 13 at midnight with a renewed focus on boys aged 6 to 14.

"Boys, like girls, place incredibly high standards on their entertainment choices," said Gary Marsh, president of entertainment for Disney Channels Worldwide, in a statement. "They demand complex, multifaceted characters that, while not perfect, are smart, selfless, determined and brave. Disney XD will deliver those kinds of characters and stories."

I can understand all of the concern about gender stereotyping and loss of animated shows, etc. that people have expressed and I share many of those, however, I'm still sort of looking forward to this. As it stands, I never watch Disney Channel (except the occasional movie showing) and only watch the superhero shows on Toon Disney (which don't seem to be going anywhere). I watch way more Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. The new stuff seems slightly more in line with those type of shows. But most of all, on New Year's when I was watching the Toon Disney Spider-man marathon, I kept seeing different previews for Aaron Stone, and I think it looks really good. Plus, I am excited about actually maybe getting to see some Even Stevens reruns now and again.

It's been on ABC Family several times now. And I seem to recall it being on Disney Channel...

But I really don't like watching movies on TV... why not just rent/borrow the DVD? (Unless they're R-rated titles, in which case I like to watch them to see the "TV versions")

While I'm not promoting stereotyping, I personally can't stand Hannah Montana and HSM... in fact, I haven't liked anything NEW on Disney TV in at least 5 years. Phineas and Ferb may be a hit, but I think it's stupid. Is there something cool about crappily-drawn animation that could be done by a 5-year old? Compared to older Disney shows like Gargoyles, Recess, etc. all their new shows are horribly drawn. And they seem to rely on stupid little-kiddie humor, instead of actually having quality stories.

So I personally don't care if they want to make Disney Channel girls-only... I never watched it anyway! Though I did like Toon Disney... for showing the superhero shows (already mentioned by someone else), Recess, Gargoyles, etc... their older classic shows. And they showed better movies, like Pixar films, etc.

Disney Rolls Out Its Re-Branded Cartoon Web

Marketwatch explains how the Big Mouse plans to use (and promote) one of its reworked cable network:

"Remember the good old days when companies launched a new cable channel or TV show with flashy billboards alongside the interstate? Well, the new place for promoting TV channels, it seems, is the digital highway ...

Disney XD, which replaces Disney's cartoon-centric Toon Disney basic cable channel, intends to build interest by seeding shows on such diverse digital outlets as iTunes, the Xbox360 game player, and cell phones, as well as on various Disney-owned outlets such as its Disney Channel. The channel is aimed primarily at guys, aged 6 to 14, and at its launch is expected to be seen in as many as 72 million of the country's more than 105 million TV households."

Of course, it would be nice if Disney created lots of boy cartoons to supplement the girl and toddler stuff on the Channel, but there's going to be a bunch of live action.

Doesn't help the animation community, but the Big Mouse goes with its perceived strengths. And live action sells right now. But everything has its time, you know? Today it's fresh-faced teenagers, tomorrow it will be crime-fighting raccoons.

*edit*

This article talks a little about some of the upcoming shows:

I'm not too sure what to make of the new Disney XD. I will give it a chance as the Aaron Stone show sounds interesting. However, I loved watching Toon Disney before they started to phase out the Disney Afternoon shows. I have not watched anything on Toon Disney, since they started the Jetix programming block. The Jetix block just never appealed to me, and before Jetix that was usually the time slots I would watch Toon Disney. Still, (setting my Jetix issues aside) I find it disappointing that Disney couldn't make Toon Disney work.
