OK now I suddenly care about Oliver & Company getting a re-release !

This means that now Disney is going to start releasing Blurays alongside re-releases of their animated movies (excl. platinums), and I thought it would take a year or two !

You know I know it's sounds wierd but I really have a big feeling that BVHE actually read what we type here ! lol

Not weird at all. BVHE-Rep has posted several times before, clearing up issues some members have asked about.

Of course, it'd be cooler if BVHE-Rep posted more often and answered some still unanswered questions. But beggars can't be choosers, and we should be glad that BVHE-Rep has an account at all.

A moderator at the Animated News & Views forum emailed Disney. Here is their response:

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding OLIVER & COMPANY. We appreciate your interest.

The scheduled Feburary release is for DVD only; we do not have a Blu-ray release date at this time.

The "first time ever in high definition" just means it has been cleaned up and whatnot - for a probable several year later Blu release.

But as for what bluray.com says - I'll believe it when I see it.

What is your problem? Nowhere in my original post or the page for the BD release does it say it's coming out in February. So yes that email you got is true. All it says is 2009, like I said in a previous post that gives them 10 FULL months to release since we have to exclude Jan/Feb. So until it is removed this BD release IS happening (but we don't know when, just sometime in 2009). Time to accept that...

Also why would they say something was "first time ever in high definition" if it was just a clean up? Isn't that just called a restoration? And if that was the case wouldn't they have said THAT and not that it was in high definition? You are so in denial...

Well the proof is right there.. Now I would completely understand all the doubt if I had either said I had "heard" it was heppening or posted an unreliable source (aka Wikipedia).

Actually, although that "first time in high definition" headline is there - it's word for word with the Sleeping Beauty release. I believe it's possible that's an addendum by Ulitmate Disney. No other site says it is coming out in high-definition. It seems the real press release begins with "BURBANK, CALIFORNIA - ". The "first time ever in..." may not have been from the press release at all.

Well if you think bluray.com is just confused with the press release, although I don't see why as there is no blu ray release info in the press release itself. Then why did they not post this when the press release was initially out? This was just recently added to the site... But as we all know Disney is VERY unpredictable as far as releases go, just when we think we've got it figured out then trick us. So who knows. You aren't going to convince me it's not legit and I'm not going to convince you (even thought I have a reliable source).

You said Disney was unreliable before but we debunked some of that claim. My only point is, why did Disney clearly state there'd be a Blu release coinciding with the DVD release for the Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, Beauty and the Beast,' Snow White', and Pinocchio platinums? Because they are trying to push people over to the new format. They even included the standard DVD with Sleeping Beauty's Blu (and are doing it again with Pinocchio). They have been extremely calculative with their Blu releases - trying hard to get people to switch formats. Why else did they announce the Fantasia Blus over two years in advance? To prevent sales of other formats of the film. Following Disney's extreme carefulness so far, why would they allow for a title to go out onto DVD without first telling everyone it would be on Blu soon after? That would completely contradict all their actions so far. They are pushing Blu or DVD, so why would they want the DVD to come out - people all buy it - only to say "oh look, the Blu version is here!"? They wouldn't want that.

Oliver & Company is one of their bottommost titles. It's the bottom of the barrel for their films money-making wise. The idea they'd prepare it for a Blu release before many of their other titles doesn't even make sense (and it is costly to prepare Blue titles) let alone the fact they'd absolutely contradict all their actions with the Blu format so far.

I still believe the only reason bluray.com believes this is because it says that headline. But that headline is identical to Pinnochio's - "Finally Releasing from the Disney Vault on DVD and for the First Time EVER in High Definition! Walt Disney’s Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition" - in which the release does trumpet a Blu edition.

I think the headline was copied carelessly and that's the only 'proof' bluray.com used.

Anyway, we can't really do any thing else with this thread but go back and forth, might as well sit back and wait.

Also, nobody is disputing Nemo, and as far as I know people believe that to be true but I don't think Disney has officially announced that one to be coming next year either...

Disney did announce a new Oliver DVD, and I'm willing to bet bluray.com assumed that in the year 2009, any new DVD coming out would HAVE to have a Blue disc with it, I mean, it's 2009, right?! Well, bluray.com clearly doesn't understand Disney - they are just backwards enough to still be re-releasing DVDs solo in the year 2009 without an accompanying Blu for most likely many years to come.

I don't think that's backwards at all. I even doubt the BlueRay releases you mention that are planned for the next three years will all be released. I think Disney is reluctant to bring out all their Classics on BlueRay, because not many people are buying into the BlueRay scam, as I like to call it.

To most people (and I wholeheartedly agree with them), BlueRay is just another way of making off money from consumers by letting them buy the same product again. They try to push Blue by pretending 'regular' DVDs provide crappy picture and sound quality, and BlueRay will deliver far better quality. Well, they said the same about VHS when DVD came into being. And while it's true the picture and sound quality of a DVD is far superior to a VHS, there comes a point when it can't get any better. And to me, and most people, that point is already reached with 'regular' DVD.

I'm sorry to break it to you (speaking to all members here), but as BlueRay enthusiasts, you are in a very small minority.

I like the one with piano the most. It looks like it was done with most care and attention to detail (all of Fagin's dogs are in it).

I hope you realize that the only dog that's not on the poster with Sikes is Einstein. Einstein is the weakest character in the film; his absence from *one* poster is warranted.
