Sweet!! Thanx Damien!! The whole sequence! Well, it's in French, but I got the jist of it anyway. LOL
Prolly follows the Broadway song word for word. Kinda underwhelmed, though - the young Simba model is a bit off, and the song itself is frankly a poor choice for a play-to-film addition - of all the songs they could have animated, why choose one of the corniest?!

To put a "New Stuff!" sticker on the dvd case, I suppose. Bleah.

Anyway, thanx again, Damien. I'm sure that site's bandwidth will be flooded - that or the Disney legal hounds will force them to take it down in a short while - glad I caught it early.

Admittedly, I don't know exactly what they're saying, but I have heard the Broadway song and one can gather most from context. But I have to say, without hesitation, that this scene would be, without a doubt, the worst scene in all of "The Lion King." Essentially, Zazu's prattling on instead of being frightened by the pouncing lesson taking place. Wow.

Why, oh why did they do this to "The Lion King"?! Yeah, the scene is cute and well-animated, but it's very corny and unnecessary! These scene was already on the film, the song wasn't needed at all! And it barely reachs one minute and a half! What a great special edition... made just to sell more DVDs!

At least the "Human Again" sequence made sence, because it ws suposed to be on the film.

i wonder what aladdin is going to have new!? his parents show up? hehe a alternate ending? i wonder about the little mermaid. a musical sequence "I got her" performed by ursula right after ariel swims up to the surface? i've always wonder what's she's doing

What a waste of animation...I thought the animation in this sequence was excellent, better than B&tB's "Human Again", even, but this song contributed absolutely nothing to the plot and I think the humor in the original scene with Zazu whining and Mufasa signalling him to turn around was much better than any humor that was supposed to come from this. Instead of wasting celluloid by giving Zazu a short song that shows off how much of a windbag he is, why couldn't they have done another song between Simba and Nala or even the fabled "Warthog Rhapsody" I keep hearing about? Here's hoping Aladdin and TLM get new musical numbers that CONTRIBUTE TO THE PLOT like with "Human Again" and unlike "Morning Report".

WOW! thanks for the link damien, I think the animation is delightful, my biggest fear is that 1) the music is going to sound to new/different. and 2) they didn't get the same singing voices or whatever and all of a sudden Mufasa and Simba and Zazu sound like three different people than they do in the rest of the film. I think it's neat how they are going back to original story ideas and stuff to reanimate what could've/should've been there all along. It's like and extended edition. My problem with the Lion King one is that it WASN't supposed to be there in the first place. I agree with DisneyKid, whatever happened to warthog rhapsody?

Warthog Rhapsody, which can be heard on the TLK spinoff cd "Rhythm of the Pridelands", sounds way too much like Hakuna Matata, in my opinion. Same tempo, similar music, and even the lyrics are about taking the easy street in life, like HM. Warthog Rhapsody would probably be a worse choice than Morning Report because of its redundance. In fact, I might be wrong, but I believe I heard that HM was written to replace WR, hence the similar themes. But I'm not sure on that. *shrug*
In any case, Warthog Rhapsody, or some variation of it, will be used in the new cheapquel next year, so people can see it then.

I think that Shadowland should have been used, personally. Nice mournful bit as Nala leaves the Pridelands, and though it's because of risque reasons in the play, it could easily be excused as just a last ditch effort on her part to find help, as she asserts in the film. It really would have been beautifully dramatic. *sigh*

Morning Report was likely thrown in there at the request of the Disney suits to have something "All New!", but with as little effort and money as possible. So they pick the shortest song from the play, animate it quickly, chuck it in and call in a "Special Edition". My foot.

I finally got the clip to play... it helps when your Windows Media Player isn't several versions out of date! Anyway, it seemed just like the old scene that is in the movie only they were singing their dialogue. It wasn't bad, but I am glad that they give you a choice to watch it or play it without that.

Unfortunately, I have seen this scene in English on the net and it is really really bad.

Rowan Atkinson (who I assume did the singing in this song) really doesn't sound that good, especially in comparison to the person that sang Zazu in the Broadway cast album. Whoever they got to sing for Simba really doesn't match his singing voice in the other songs.

If anyone remembers the musical, you know that Mufasa's suggestions "stay low, to the ground, etc" which were sang in the musical. In the English version, they just keep James Earl Jones' original vocal tracks and just stretch out the length and gaps between spaces so that it sort of fits along with the way it was done in the musical. Unfortunately this just sounds really unnatural.

Lastly, this song is just so damn short. At least the one in the musical was 3 minutes. At the less than 1 minute length the song runs, it really begs the question why they even bored to add the song in the first place. In addition, whoever conceived the whole visualization of this song has to be shot for what is a horrible, plain stupid, and really boring visual to set to what is actually a pretty decent song.

At least "Human Again" fits in the movie. What they did with "The Morning Report" is just sick.

I don't know if it is appropriate to say so. But an SVCD copy of the special edition has been circulating on the newsgroups. One of my friends downloaded a copy of it and showed me the particular scene.

I will not go into specifics about the video due to potential legal issues there.

Okay, well now I've seen it in English...and I must say...staged, static, and just plain stupid.

It is easily the dullest musical number and serves no purpose at all - what a great (that's sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell) transition from Mufasa's excellent, resonant "circle of life" speech to "hyenas!" Even a throwaway scene like Timon singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" while walking exudes charm and fun, whereas this is just pointless and doesn't match the tone and spirit of the real songs. And since it's obviously not young Jason Weaver's voice, Simba sounds nothing like the singing voice from the rest of the movie.

I will NEVER choose to watch the movie with this song in place.

Ugh.

And I might be wrong, but it looks from the video that we're getting 1.85:1 instead of 1.66:1, as the black bars on the side were practically non-existent. Obviously, it's converted to MPEG from DVD files, but I don't think one could lose the encoded bars without going to great lengths.

That'd be just super.
