The Best Albums of 2008

Post by DisneyFreak5282 »

I just got this very unoriginal idea, but whatever. :P

I was thinking it's pretty safe to say that we can start naming our favorite albums of 2008, and give little mini reviews. I'll go first, and my review goes in NO PARTICULAR order:

1. Image
Britney Spears: Circus (Deluxe Edition)
"Love me/hate me/say what you want about me/but" this was a great album from start to finish. Just when I thought she couldn't beat "Blackout", I was proved wrong! It's a great album, and everyone should give it a listen.

2. Image
Kanye West: 808s & Heartbreak
Even though this album wasn't as good as "Graduation", I liked this one a lot. It's got some pretty good songs on here like "Say You Will", "Paranoid", and "Street Lights".

3. Image
P!nk: Funhouse
You want a great album that is full of bitter, angry rocker chick songs? Look no further. Despite the many angry songs, it's a great album, even better than her previous one, "I'm Not Dead".

4. Image
Pussycat Dolls: Doll Domination (Deluxe Version)
It's great from start to finish, and I would recommend it to anyone. It's a must-have.

5. Image
Buckcherry: Black Butterfly
So glad they finally released a new album, and it does not disappoint at all. I especially love "Too Drunk...".

6. Image
Leona Lewis: Spirit
This was such a good album, despite the fact that I'm sick of hearing "Bleeding Love" and "Better In Time". My favorites would be "Forgive Me", "Misses Glass", and "Yesterday".

7. Image
Janet Jackson: Discipline
I've been a fan of Janet's for a while, and so far I have not been disappointed with her work. And "Discipline" is definitely no exception.

8. Image
Mamma Mia! The Movie Soundtrack
I'm not really a huge fan of the movie, but the soundtrack was really good.

9. Image
Miley Cyrus: Breakout
Sure, Miley's voice isn't the greatest, but it's pretty darn good. I was pleasantly surprised with this album, mainly because I didn't think it was as bad as some people made it out to be.

10. Image
Ray J: All I Feel
It was really good. The songs you want to look out for are "Gfits", "Girl From The Bronx", and "Boyfriend" - they're the best off the album.

11. Image
The Jonas Brothers: A Little Bit Longer
Ok, so I've jumped on the bandwagon. Or off the deep end. If a year ago I knew what was going on this list, TJB would be my last guess. I didn't mind this album at all. And for that, Amy should be proud of me.

12. Image
Madonna: Hard Candy
I'm sorry. No one deserved to have been put through the torture that is looking at that album cover. I in no way consider myself a Madonna fan, the only other CDs from her I liked were "Music", and "Confessions On A Dance Floor". And "Erotica" was just OK. I think I liked this album so much because the majority of it involved Pharrell, Kanye, and Justin.

13. Image
Katy Perry: One of the Boys
Only explanation for my purchase of this: she rocks. Oh, and the $8.82 price at Wal-Mart. :P

14. Image
Ashanti: The Declaration
What can I say, this album was just plain "Good Good"! :P

15. Image
T.I.: Paper Trail
Such a great Hip Hop / Rap album, and it's jam packed with some great special guests like Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, and Kanye West.

16. Image
Mariah Carey: E=MC²
Any album by Mariah is great in my book, and this is no exception. Great from start to end.

17. Image
Jessica Simpson: Do You Know?
Yes, I do know that this was a decent country crossover!

18. Image
Lil Wayne: Tha Carter III
It was just plain freakin' amazing!

Jonas Brothers- A Little Bit Longer
What an amazing album. Every song is wonderful. I'm a fan for a reason- they're great! (And, yes, I'm proud of you, Ryan!)

Image
High School Musical 3: Senior Year soundtrack
I love it. A great movie, a great soundtrack. I know that my reviews stink...it's just absolutely wonderful!

Image
Demi Lovato- Don't Forget
I'm really impressed with her album. I knew even before her album came out that she'd become one of my favorite musicians- a very impressive freshman effort.

Image
Miley Cyrus- Breakout
I disagree with Ryan- I think that Miley has a great voice. I love Hannah Montana's music, and I love Miley's first solo album, and I knew that I'd like Breakout. I've found that it's a nice album to drive to. It's very enjoyable.

Image
The Cheetah Girls: One World soundtrack
I've enjoyed all the music The Cheetah Girls have put out, and this is no different. It's not too different sounding than any of their other music, but some songs have a little Indian influence...sort of. I really, really like this album.

Image
Camp Rock soundtrack
A couple songs are just alright (but they have grown on me a lot since I first got the album), but many of the songs are really, really good.

Honorable mentions:

Image
Taylor Swift- Taylor Swift
Technically, the album is from 2006, but I have the 2008 reissue, so it counts. It's a very good album- I tend to skip over certain songs, but that's only because I like to sing along with the songs I know.

Image
Skye Sweetnam- Sound Soldier
I wish this album would be released in the U.S. This is the only album that I have that I haven't bought (I ripped the songs from YouTube), and once it's released in the U.S., I'll run out and buy it. It's really good...it's a slight departure from her previous album, but it's a great kind of quirky pop rock album. Some of the songs are extremely catchy.

Image
iCarly soundtrack
I only downloaded Miranda Cosgrove's 4 songs, but those 4 songs are great. I really like her style, and it's a great preview of what's to come from her. I'm planning on buying the actual CD eventually, because I want to get physical CDs of albums I've downloaded and replacement CDs of other albums I have, but that's just me rambling now.

I just wanted to say that I haven't yet received Britney Spears' Circus album in the mail yet, so that probably will end up on this list. I wasn't too impressed with Blackout at first- I liked a bunch of the songs, and I shouldn't have let the couple that I didn't really care for ruin the whole album being awesome...All of Britney's albums are great, and I'm sure that Circus wil not be different.

Does anyone here listen to REAL music. These tweenyj-boppers are nice, but how about some speaker-shattering down to earth really good stuff like:

Good Times Bad Times - Godsmack. One of the smartest albums of this or any year.

Death Magnetic - Metallica. Now this is music to rock your socks off to.

Barry Manilow - Greatest Hits of the 80's Nothing more needs to be said about one of the best entertainers in the business today.

Now I listen to Miley Cyrus, really do like her "Breakout" album, and "The Jonas Brothers" are at the top of their game.

As far as "The Cheetah Girls" go, they couldn't lip-sync their way to a hit, and the three girls combine don't have half the talent of Miley Cyrus.

:D
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

Circus- Britney Spears

Thats the only album of the year, as far as I'm concerned.

Coldplay, Viva La Vida - I can't believe no one else listed this incredible album as one of the best of the year. You watch, a few years down the line this album will be considered a classic.
AC/DC, Black Ice - Proof that AC/DC still kicks ass and rocks hard.
Guns N' Roses, Chinese Democracy - Actually not that great, but the history behind its loooong production and the fact that it's finally available [legally!] is somewhat historical in my mind.
Metallica, Death Magnetic - Metallica is still the best metal band around. Weak acts like Dragonforce don't hold a candle to them.
Alexandre Desplat, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - I took a listen to this on Warner's For Your BAFTA Consideration site, and it is one of the best movie scores I've heard in years. If there's a film score this year that's better than this one and eligible for an Academy Award, I'd like to here it now. Because as far as I'm concerned, the Oscar for Best Original Score has already gone to Mr. Desplat.)
The Raconteurs, Consolers of the Lonely - If you enjoy The White Stripes' eccentric riffs on rock and blues, you'll want to check out Jack White's other band, The Raconteurs.
The Killers, Day and Age - I swear, they sound just like an 80's band with the ridiculous amount of synthesizer.... And that's a good thing in my mind. :D
Kanye West, 808's and Heartbreak - Still the only rap artist I like. Kanye's put a lotta soul in this one.
Jason Mraz, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things - Maybe this is just another guilty pleasure, but honestly - Find me one person under the age of 20 who's never sung to the lyrics of "I'm Yours". Please, I dare you. :P

Well, that's pretty much my list in a nutshell. If I hear any other albums that I dig, I'll be sure to post them here.

Cheers,

I think I've only really liked three 2008 albums:
Dolly Parton - Backwoods Barbie
Madonna - Hard Candy
Britney Spears - Circus
