Howard the Duck (1986)

My boyfriend loves this movie and has been waiting for it to be released on dvd! We recently bought the Laserdisc of it (fullscreen of course as the widescreen has never been released as far as we know). He really really likes this movie. (by the way, we have Killer Clowns From Outer Space too).

Click Here and see how much this bootleg dvd of it is going for. Universal would be smart if they tried to figure out the situation with rights etc. And somebody get it released on dvd pdq.

The sad thing is that DVD was made for free distrobution as a torrent, I know it's illegal but not anymore illegal than paying $150.00 for a bootleg DVD. Apparently Howard the Duck was released in Brazil on DVD in December 2006

Anybody know anything about this?

As for Star Wars Holiday Special, I'm such a Star Wars fan that I watch it every year. Yeah, it's bad, but it's soooooo bad it's good, and in Lucas's defense, I don't think he was very involved in that one at all.

I agree totally, "Radioland Murders" was a fun movie. Brian Benben, Christopher Lloyd, Mary Stuart Masterston, Ned Beatty, and a cast of all-stars made this romp through the early days of radio a whole lot of fun. And it IS available on DVD right now.

I have the original DVD release. Yeah, the cast is GREAT!

Yeah he wasn't really too involved with it more than suggesting the story of getting Chewbacca home for the Life Day celebration. Then CBS decided that since Star Wars was so popular why not make it a 2 hour special instead of just a one hour special? To fill in the time they added lots of musical acts. There was also a lot of comedy provided by sitcom writer and Hollywood Squares star Bruce Vallanch (sp?). He spoke about it on one of those VH1 specials, so you really have him to thank for such a goofy special. Thanks Bruce!

They're much more alike than you think. They both are considered "bad" movies (ID4 actually is). Both involve aliens. Both involve people trying to get "inside" of things (especially if you reinstate the condom scene in Howard).

I could give more examples, but I think my case can rest.

Oh, and ET and Starman are generally considered good movies.

Far better movie than Howard the Duck. Not bad at all. I really like Brian Benben. I thought Dream On(an HBO series) was excellent.

I have seen both many times andthey are nothing like each other,except for aliens, ID4 is about a invasion, if you are going to compare to something it should be a War of the Worlds or a MArs Attack. by the way ID4 is one of my favorite movies of all time

I am one of those people with an all-regions DVD player and I now own the UK version of "Howard the Duck". It is, with all it flaws, a really fun movie to watch. Nothing really objectionable if you consider he is a male, adult duck and likes females, human or otherwise. The story is pretty good, and I know that the movie was ill-conceived, and poorly-written, but let's face it everyone has his bad day or days and this was one of Lucas' worst.

I also own the HD Anamorphic Version bootleg that everyone talks about. I got it for $25 and thought that was all I was going to ever see of this movie.

Hopefully Universal will get this one legally releaed here in the US with a decent transfer and, maybe, just maybe a few other extras.

I was in Fresno, CA on business the day they were shooting the airport scenes and his fly-over the city. So my interest in the movie is just the fact that I saw a brief scene from the movie shot from a passer-by view.

Don't be too hard on this movie, it is still considered by many to be a classic, and one of those rarities that stirs up the fires about 'good or bad movies'. Believe there are a lot worse movies out there.

Do you have a time machine or are you mixing DVD up with VHS

The UK version is anamorphic widescreen.

And no I don't have a time machine. The movie "Howard the Duck" is available on DVD, although it is a bootleg here in the US, but it is a legal release in the UK.

There is a Region 2 release of this movie, here in Germany it was released just some months ago, so there should be one in the UK as well.

I know there was one in Germany but I can't find for the life of me any legal non-bootleg release on DVD

Seriously.

I'm glad for the film's fans (all 173 of them!), but come on...surely there are plenty of films in need of a release/re-release that are more deserving of a Special Edition...
